Elden Ring: New Fromsoft rpg

Interesting. You are making me ponder a sorcery only build. Or maybe faith only? Hmm. I think i did enjoy incantations more in Elden Ring. Will think on it a bit. I've got a good amount of games lined up to play at the moment. Plus I'm currently doing a season in MLB The Show on PS4.
.

It’s been refreshing so far. I’m not going for any challenges, nothing fancy at all. I grabbed the meteorite staff, then got Lusat’s staff early on and have been just dumping points into INT until I could use it. I know I need to level VIT and Mind soon lol, but so far every boss is down first try, expect for starscourge and one of the Magma worms. Both times the camera got into a wonky angle and I had no idea which way I was rolling.

Hard times ahead maybe, but that’s cool. I’ve already cleared the game with a number of other builds, so this is actually just kind of relaxing.

Edit: I went after the Leyndell draconic sentry - I have never even imagined he could be that easy. Now that was fun lol.

Nice to hear that draconic bastard went down easy.

I have a feeling you'll relatively breeze through the majority of the game. Your sorcery run is a testament to the fact the game does have difficulty settings. It's all in how you choose your character build.

Yep the main bosses after that one are pretty ridiculous. Mainly because the AOE attack bullshit goes off the scale. You are close to the end though.

Two bosses closer - Gideon and Godfrey/Hoarah Loux went down surprisingly easy compared to the wild attacks of Maliketh .

For the very last fight ( Radagon and the Elden Beast , I had a few first attempts at it, to see what's what. Phase 1 seems easy enough, and for phase 2 it looks like patience is more important than quick thinking. Looks like it can be done, I just have to figure it out over the next few days. I'll be very pleased with myself if this last one doesn't take as long as either the Draconic Knight or Maliketh .

Very much so. I just cleared Leyndell with 0 deaths and am in the snow fields.

Easy mode in this game for sure. The nice thing is, even with low hp there are enough buffs/accessories that allow me to survive a couple of hits from bosses. That was well thought out.

As of now death rite birds and the worms are the only problematic enemies due to just how spastic the attacks are and the distance they can cover.

I did discover something odd. I thought the knights that constantly turtle would be an issue, but whenever I attacked with the DMGS, it seemed to almost instantly “create” an opening for massive damage. Repeatable, they seem to have no, or low defense against it. No complaints :)

@ Meteor - I think you would enjoy this.

One shotting Commander Niall AND his two goons makes the whole effort worth it :D

Summoned in another player for the final fight. Wasn't even a challenge this way. Feels a bit like an anticlimax, but...

IN OTHER WORDS: I DID IT

Good job, twonha. What are your final overall thoughts of the game?

What did you use to one-shot that boss, Comet Azur?

Yeah. Graven Mass (I think lol) talismans, Terra Magica, magic cracked tear and the other one that grants infinite fp and a +10 Lusat’s staff. INT with buffs was 78 I think.

I was wondering how I would deal with the minions, but they just ran right into the beam coming at me. That was truly satisfying lol.

That's a lot of magic buff, plus one of the game's strongest staves. That nitwit boss didn't stand a chance. :D

Neither did Mohg just now :D I’m glad I beat the game using a “normal” faith/melee build, but I’m considering this my reward.

INT is at 80 now. I haven’t put points into anything else but mind and vitality, 30 and 40 respectively. This is actually legit fun again lol.

Mixed. There's a lot here that really doesn't gel with me personally. But there's enough there, that I managed to see it through. It's, I guess, objectively a good game that I subjectively don't like.

The obvious thing is that I don't like Souls games, where the challenge, the not knowing, the dying, the grinding are part of the "fun". But it's also stuff like the storyline offering me so little motivation as to why I'm here, why the bosses do what they do, what's going on, what quests do what and where they go and how they work. It's all there, but I have to rely on the wiki articles, on the community, to make any sense of the game.

The combat is extremely versatile, and what I find a little difficult to explain, is that this game world is so dreary, so depressing, and yet every corner of this open world is memorable. Any fan could probably see any screenshot, and know exactly where that is, what enemies are there and tell you three or more adventures they had on that exact spot. If the whole point of entertainment is to make you experience memorable emotions, then Elden Ring's got that down to a tee.

Overall, finishing a Soulslike game was a challenge I set myself, and I have done it. I'm proud, but mostly relieved, that that's done. I'll go back and try a few bosses I've missed, attack a few areas I haven't really been to, but I look forward to playing something completely different after 120 hours of ER spread over two months.

I think your feelings of it are similar to how most people feel about these games. I don't love everything about these games either. To me, I don't really ever bother with the obtuse story bits or care too much about lore and memorable settings. I'm just always searching for that power fantasy satisfaction of starting out weak and helpless, but over time getting more powerful to smash the hell out of the enemy as easily as possible. That's the only reason I play these games. That sense of optimizing my build to overcome tough challenges is like a drug to me and Souls-likes offer that feeling better than any other game type. However, I don't think From Soft is the best at this anymore.

I think From Soft's Souls-like games have some long standing issues they need to improve that are really showing now that their combat system is aging. After playing all their games and sinking hundreds of hours into them its evident they need to fix a lot of antiquated quirks (just one example that really bugs me is the queued action inputs). Look to a game like Nioh that does combat so much better. They are starting to feel like the new Bethesda, churning out the same thing over and over just with slight tweaks - at least as far as their combat systems go. Also, I think with Elden Ring they have finally started to abandon fairness with some of the boss fights in favor of trying to retain ever increasing challenge. In other words, unlike their past games there's a lot of moments in Elden Ring where the boss fights are starting to feel somewhat cheap now - unless you play them in very specific ways.

Anyways I give you credit for sticking with it and seeing it through to the end. Judging by Steam global achievements its probably around 30%. But hard to tell since a lot of people that beat it probably get achievements for multiple endings.

Just a quick update on my sorcery run, especially because early news about potential DLC is beginning to leak - nothing confirmed by Fromsoft yet though.

I did a faith build early on that demolished everything - this is better, primarily due to range. Anyone who wants easy mode, this is it, but it also comes with the added bonus of really, really learning how to read tells and dodge lol.

Malenia - got her to phase 2 immediately, but struggled on the 2nd, more aggressive phase.

All draconic tree sentries - 3 hits at most, the Faraam Azula Sentry, one shot.

Noble Godskin duo - one death after getting pinned to the wall by the fat roll one, couldn’t see where to dodge out. 2nd attempt was easy.

Beast clergyman - one shot

Malekith - 3 shots - I clipped him with Azure, had to cast twice more to finish.

Godfrey (2nd fight) one shot

Hourax Loux - tougher due to speed and mobility, but about 6 casts got him.

I’m saving the endgame bosses until I clean up a bit, but this is the build I’m bringing into the DLC - RL156 right now.

I’ll probably refine it with a respec at the end, but it’s still going to be essentially the same build, just cleaned up a bit.

Edit - I did use spirit summons to keep some of the heat off me. I’m not Uber Pro like some folks posting on YouTube lol.

No :(

I doubt Sony will do anything but collect money from sales, but tencent can piss right off.

I remember noticing something awhile back about the same two acquiring 16%. Wonder if that is considered in the newer 30% number or they now control 46% of fromsoftware?
