Elden Ring: New Fromsoft rpg

I was sort of hoping that we would get From Software’s version of the Witcher 3. Instead we got semi-nonlinear Bloodborne. Not that that is that bad. Just not what I hoped for.

I’m not really sure what I expected going in. All I can say is it’s the largest mix of amazing and disappointment by turns that I’ve ever played. They really did load the game with some truly memorable moments for me. That might be what made the disappointments that much tougher to swallow.

Yep, that hits the nail on the head.

The thing though is, if their games are selling so well what motivation is there to come up with new innovative ideas? That's what worries me. I feel compelled to vote with my wallet against them doing that. Of course likely will be futile, as they gained so many new fans with Elden Ring. They could easily ride that wave and churn out the same feature set for another game or two.

Agreed. I just hope they find a way to move forward rather than stagnate. I have so much time invested in their IPs I would really hate to see them go down that road.

I don’t even think I am that disappointed. The formula they pioneered is unique and awesome. I was just expecting something different.

I've learned to accept we're always going to get a "Souls" game of some form from them. Even when they veer off the path wIth a game like Sekiro, it still has Souls DNA.

I really want to see a major overhaul of their combat system. I want it to feel completely different and modernized. There are lots of other games in the genre to compete with now. Even if they are still selling the most doesn't mean they're the best anymore. The Nioh games have already beat them gameplay-wise IMO. The combat mechanics are the most important thing with these games and FS needs to step it up.

The Godskin Duo is apparently one of the more difficult bosses to beat as melee player. So, what did I, a 100% melee user, do to negate my disadvantages?

I know what I'd do on this melee playthrough - use sleep pots. I just found out they're extremely effective on those guys, and beat the Volcano Manor Godskin Noble at level ~20. One pot and they fall asleep for a few good hits, after a couple of seconds. :)

So I never did a *pure* sorcery run in this, from the very start. Due to a lack of games that really interest me, I decided to jump back in and do that.

Having all the previous experience with the game, familiarity with what to expect and where is making it far too easy, to this point anyway.

Meh, at least it’s temporarily scratching the gaming itch.

Yeah IMO the farther you get away from pure melee, the easier the game will be. Which is exactly what pure sorcery is.

If you can get your build to where sorceries do as much DPS as strong melee weapons it will be easy mode for sure. But I suspect there might be some parts of the game that will eventually prove to be a challenge.

For sure. Everything up to and past Godrick are dropping like flies though at the moment. I’m practically playing on auto pilot :p

A tale of me beating Maliketh , in 30 pictures.

In short: he beat my ass again and again and again. Do I change my setup, style, weaponry? No, not really. Every boss has fallen to me, this one will be no different. So it's my stubbornness versus his endless stream of victories.

Until my mimic and I get a good hit in, a lucky hit, just one time. He's stunned, hit a few more times, and dies no more than fifteen seconds into the fight.

That boss was tough for sure. I found the second phase a bit hard to figure out. Really hard to avoid its attacks at times.

I think i got lucky on him though and beat him rather quick. Had more trouble with the draconic tree sentinel before him.

Where are you with your sorcery build, beat it already?

Everything south and east of Leyndell cleared. Still easy mode

Edit: Back on my iPad so it’s easier to reply - I still have an assortment of optional bosses to clear, but I’m not far from going after the draconic tree sentry outside of Leyndell, and I think this is where the challenge will really start. Turtling knights and AOE spamming bosses are going to force me to dump points into hp I think. I might opt to go underground and get the mimic before going in here. Give him moonveil and I’ll spam from a distance.

Absolutely! I had a lot of trouble learning when to dodge and when to attack. And even though he's out of the way, I'm not going to pretend I've learned and mastered - I just got lucky. Those massive AOE attacks that take both me and the (aggressive) mimic out are, well, lethal.

Honestly, I'm a bit scared to continue now, knowing there's only more of this to come.

Interesting. You are making me ponder a sorcery only build. Or maybe faith only? Hmm. I think i did enjoy incantations more in Elden Ring. Will think on it a bit. I've got a good amount of games lined up to play at the moment. Plus I'm currently doing a season in MLB The Show on PS4.

Yep the main bosses after that one are pretty ridiculous. Mainly because the AOE attack bullshit goes off the scale. You are close to the end though.
