Yeah, I still have my NEO G7. I found a way to fix a lot of the dithering issues and scanline issues.. required a setting being turned on in the monitor settings that wasn't exactly obvious at first. Once I enabled that, I haven't been able to see any, or at a minimum, it's so minor that I don't see it in motion. It was very bad on desktop with certain applications in Windowed mode.. but all fixed after I messed with some settings.

What worked for you to make the scanline's go away or be reduced?

You have the "Adaptive-Sync" option in "GAME" settings. I had that enabled, thinking that it was supposed to be enabled when using GSync. Turns out there's another option in "System" at the bottom called "VRR Control" that is set to Disabled by default. When I set that to "Enabled", it was like a night-and-day difference.
 
Oh dear. I remember that trick to stop flashing before the bios upgrade on the G7.

Can’t believe you still have to go through these shenanigans.
 
Yes, but to have this same problem last for 3 generation of monitors (G7, G7 28 inch and now NEO G7) is a bit stupid IMO. Why can't the monitors perform as advertised out of the box?
Anyways, before this "fix" there was flashing so there's that. At least now without enabling it you don't get flashing.
 
The scan-line issue goes back farther than the G7 series. I get it on my CHG90, and that released in 2018. And you can read about it going back even further with some googling. It has to do with their controllers and firmware. Some team at Samsung thinks the scanline issue is ok and it has kept making it past QA through multiple different monitor SKU's, Firmwares and Updates for many many years.
 
Yeah it varies greatly panel-to-panel. VRR Control enabled increases input lag, so there's a trade-off.

I don't like that there are people buying NEO monitors with Firmware that is up to 1005, while my monitor is on 1002, and no way to update it. I want more recent firmware if it's available, but Samsung hasn't made anything available for manual updating.

I read that 1002 and 1003 monitors performed quite a bit better than displays with 1001 firmware, but can't really prove anything.

I'm currently testing HDR again on this display with Local Dimming HIGH. rtings updated their review on the NEO G7 with more info, and recommended High rather than Auto.

Also, Windows released an HDR Tuning app that will allow you to adjust color/brightness, and then it creates a color profile for you for HDR use. I noticed slightly better colors and less bloom following this tuning.
 
VRR control was one of the first settings I tried and it didn't make much difference on my panel. Also could not fix the blooming no matter the setting. Not a fan of mini-LED for monitors, I have never seen good results. It makes sense for TV's with large viewing distances and video content, but for monitors with PC content I don't think it's any good.

Along with its other issues and aggressive curve, the NEO G7 was one of the worst monitors I've ever used tbh.
 
Yeah I can't seem to make HDR usable. I have Local Dimming disabled and HDR off for best IQ. The HDR isn't great with Local Dimming, and with any level of Local Dimming enabled, you have really annoying bloom.

HDR isn't really a big deal for me, and the monitor looks phenomenal in SDR, so it doesn't bother me much. VA advantage of strong blacks and contrast help make things pop even without the stupidly high brightness of HDR.

Samsung should also be sued for the HDR2000 claim. It doesn't come anywhere near 2000 nits in any scenario for any period of time, lol.
 
I've had the QD-Oled Alienware for a month now and I love it. This baby in motion is a thing of Beauty. It's hard to go back to the smearing of LCDs.
 
I just switched off OLED and got a samsung qn90b mini-LED. The first one was perfect but my wife informed me 55" was too small for the living room so I took it back and got a 65" instead. That first 65" had a couple small gray dots on the screen that looked like contamination in the panel. I'm on my second one and other than some DSE which is unavoidable I haven't found any major problems like dead pixels which would trigger another return. Hopefully it stays that way.

Anyhow 65" is pretty huge to be sitting 3-4' back from and using for PC but it's more comfortable than the massive 77" I had before that.
 
Why did you move away from OLED Riptide?
I am still surprised that Nunz kept his Neo G7. Thinking about grabbing one but I know the minute I order, LG will announce a 32 inch 144 Hz 4K OLED :rolleyes:

Patience is running thin. My G7 has served me very well but I am kind of feeling the resolution deficit a bit.

On the other hand the C2 42 inch is now only 800 or less. I need a desk for it. :mad:

I'm doing those things to coddle my Oled LG C2 42 but it's worth it for the nice milky blacks in games & movies IQ in my room which has dark lighting all the time. But I sometimes miss the vividness of my Samsung QN90A. Man it can really blow you away with colors, brightness & contrast as you probably see with your QN90B. I should hook it up to my 2nd pc in a bright room like the living room.

Edit: I've read the QN90A & B does HDR better in some situations than Oled TVs. I could find sources for that and I guess I will if needed.

I'm not going to change a thing. Just a screen saver at 2 minutes. I don't use HDR though because that does seem like it would do it. After making a payment I realized I'm coming up on 4 months and so far I don't see anything wrong.
 
QN90A/B are going to have overall much higher brightness ability than the OLED displays. The contrast is good on the Samsung but it cannot match the OLED - it still has an advantage. Specifically, I can still see some blooming on the Samsung in the right circumstances.

For burn-in to show up on an OLED it's not going to be a 4 month deal. Think more like a couple years. Spending $1500+ on a TV I didn't even want to have to think about it any more. I was just done with that. I've had OLEDs for years now (B7, C9, CX) and they are great - but not for PC monitors.

IMO not hiding icons, taskbar, and using a black desktop is playing with fire on an OLED. Just a matter of time before it ruins it.
 
I also got tired of worrying about burn-in 24/7. I did get used to auto-hide on the taskbar, though, and I like it. I still keep it on auto-hide despite going to Mini-LED. Regardless, OLED is amazing and I still think about going back to it with the ASUS 42UQ OLED, but I just can’t justify the expense. The Samsung NEO G7 looks amazing as long as HDR and Local Dimming are off.. lolol
