Path of Exile (Free Action RPG)

I've been in the closed beta since February. Played for a couple of months then stopped. I'm thinking of jumping back in so I can check out what's changed since. I'm sure lots has.

Path of Exile free weekend

Public stress test weekend I should say. I am really liking the game =)

I tried it out, didn't like it. Camera too close to the player and it was difficult for me to get a sense of direction.

****! just paid 10.00 to check this out.. why do I do this?? I have too many damn games I need to finish..

I dunno what it is, but I just can't get into PoE the way I would just waste hours on Diablo.

Personally I get into it more then Diablo III, but I think both are fun. Diablo is definitely hard to look at, after playing POE though.

Watching vids the combat seemed slow but in game it feels pretty good.. animations could be a bit better. Overall the game looks fantastic. Im still searching for "that" game, hope this is it.

The game has potential, but it lacks polish and the combat feels "stiff" compared to Diablo.

The more I play POE, I think that's kind of a misconception. The biggest difference is that in POE, your attacks aren't guaranteed to hit anything. If you don't have decent dexterity, you will miss a lot of your swings. This combined with the smaller attack radius (i.e. smaller reach), it makes the game feel like the combat system is flawed.

But in reality, as you increase your dexterity and get used to moving your character and attacking, you land a lot more blows and the combat feels more fluid. Also, it doesn't feel like D3, because the combat styles are very different.

I like character movement in POE much better than D3 too. You don't get trapped as much, and you can actually dodge attacks by moving your character, very similar to Diablo/Diablo 2.

Act 3 will become available when Path of Exile enters Open Beta in December. The game is currently in Closed Beta but has already raised over USD$1.2m in crowd-funded support, with those supporters gaining beta access.

Act 3 adds an extra 50% of content to Path of Exile’s world,” says Grinding Gear Games producer Chris Wilson. “Our already gritty game gets a lot darker as players explore Sarn and witness the full extent of the corruption and cataclysm. High-level characters will really enjoy some of the enemy encounters and combat challenges.”

So when open beta launches they are going to erase everyones char and then they wont erase anymore? anyone know?

EDIT: answer is here I believe https://www.pathofexile.com/forum/view-thread/44943

The last wipe will be Closed to Open. After that, the devs have the delightful responsibility of making as many changes as they can without incurring what would have been a character wipe in Closed Beta. This is why the transition from Closed Beta to Open is so significant.

The wipe will cover all leagues with the exception of legacy. It would make no sense whatsoever to leave them not to mention the unfair advantage leveled char would have in said leagues.

.

Exactly, In Diablo III it just feels like I am clicking the same two buttons over and over, in POE it feels like I am playing a game with some choice in combat. Maybe I am playing DIII wrong, but it's like I have very little choice in combat.

one thing that has bothered me a bit with the little time I've played.. the combat audio is underwhelming..

I didn't have any problems with attacks missing and stuff like that. Just the animations feel stiff and the audio is also very underwhelming.
