There's no gold, and no auction house. The main currency are the orbs and there is a lot of trade in the in-game chat.

I was about to say the battles can be quite intense. At the beginning they're quite boring, though.
As you level, though, and your character gets stronger and has more abilities (you upgrade your gems), it gets pretty crazy. There are sooooo many different types of builds and passives you can choose. It's really great.

Gave them $10, sounds great. Wasn't impressed with D3
A lot of people are in the same boat.
D3 was disappointing.

Game will be free later on. As for combat, yea it's bland early but later on it's awesome.

Yes. I've spent $10 on many, much worse games.
Also, this company, Grinding Gear Games, are openly talking with the community and implementing the ideas they put forth. Any dev that loves their game and works with the community to make it better can have my $10. I'll consider it a donation.

Yeah, I'm always amazed to see actual devs in general chatting and answering questions live.
It gives me that vibe too.
I've really enjoyed the game but sort of stopped playing because I know there will be a character wipe with open beta. I hate to burn myself out before the game even releases just to have to redo everything when it's out. Still I gave them the $10 and haven't regretted it.

Well you will be able to use that 10$ you invested anyway since they count for the ingame donators currency. Only good thing to spend it is stash tabs for now (you start with 4 or was it 5?) but some of us like to stash a ton of stuff 
Also you could technically just make 3 accounts and mule stuff. But at this rate its 12$ to get double stash tabs, imho preferable to losing time muling like mad. Character slots are plentiful though (24 or 32, cant remember) even though you can buy em. I guess if you participate in many different leagues you might need em.
One problem atm is there is quite decent lag at times. It is good to check with "/online" before you go play hardcore, 1k is usually the max amount when its still playable... well I guess they will gradually add some servers before open beta. Current few thousands of users will definitely grow by then.
