Crawdaddy79's dash cam collection of vehicular asshattery.

I enjoyed your video (and thumbs up'd at YouTube). At times you did seem like an agressive driver, but I've been wussified by driving in Nebraska for so long. I'm not agressive enough. Video looked good though. Enjoyed the bikini girl too.

WTF do you drive, a yacht?

Was doing 75 MPH on a 70 MPH tollway and had to take drastic actions to avoid the massive truck swerving across into my lane. The VDC sorted out most of the issues but a touch of reverse/opposite lock doesn't hurt to make sure you don't get into too much trouble :)

You've never been in a situation where your car slides out a little and you use brakes, throttle and/or opposite lock to stay under control? One of the joys of a rear-wheel drive :D

If you can't contribute to the thread directly then don't. No need for personal conflicts with no relation to the thread.

Could the OP have driven better? Sure, but there was nothing wrong with his driving. His driving didn't initiate the awful decision making on the part of the people who did all the stupid crap.

Fact is, the asshats have little to no concept of defensive driving and apparently don't give a crap about what their actions would have on other people. Example, OP gives space for a car to come on over and leaves that space for a bit. The car decides to do the more dangerous/stressful thing rather than take advantage of the op's correct procedure :)

I definitely enjoyed the video too and I am hoping for a lot more craw :D

And will probably look for a way to get my phone hooked up to start recording stuff as well. Texas and Florida drivers are... let's just say... special :)

I'm beginning to think that you haven't been in as many situations that require evasive driving techniques as you say you have.

Not sure where I mentioned I have been in many of these situations. I consider myself a relatively safe driver and avoid those situations as often as possible :D

Probably only a handful of occasions since I started driving at 16 would be classified as truly hair-raising :D

Never had a speeding ticket or a moving violation in my life (knock on wood) and only 1 proper accident where a guy with a suspended license ran a red light and hit me head on :( No chance to avoid that one completely unfortunately.

I was talking about your evasive/recovery driving techniques where you discussing braking, throttle, countersteer, etc...

That's why I quoted it.

Thanks. What meager editing you see in it, it took a lot of effort to do. I see an immeasurable amount of room for improvement, but that's a big part of why I did it; to learn.

For the last vid I did (never posted here) I played with pixelizing the plates instead of doing an image overlay to cover them up. I think I like the overlay better (the video encodes a LOT faster, and there wasn't any crashing during the render) but I need to find a way to get it to blend in better with the video, so it doesn't appear so jumpy all the time.

What editing software do you use? A good motion tracker will make your overlay look great and save a ton of time.

Vegas Home Studio 9 (Platinum).

If you're going to respond that there is a way to set and forget an overlay in my software, then I will punch myself in the face twice.

I don't disagree that I seem more aggressive than average, in the sense that I don't move out of the way of a dumbass until the last possible moment, when I know for sure that if I don't, I'll get hit. One thing you can't strike me for, is not paying attention to what the hell's going on around me, unlike most of the cars I put on display.

I understand that things like not slamming on my brakes as a car crosses over a solid white line to try to force his way in front of me might seem aggressive to you, I don't agree that it is dangerous.

I think his point is, a lot of these 'moments' wouldn't be moments if you wouldn't wait so long to decide something is about to happen. I agree, a few times I thought 'hmm, if he'd backed off/braked/changed lane earlier' it wouldn't have been as noteworthy. A couple of times you started to change lanes and then reverted, because you chose gas it and go around as the idiot did as well, when the safest option was hold back and wait and see.

I do agree you have good situational awareness, and you didn't make any of these moments worse, which ultimately is the objective.

To be fair, I didn't gas it either time as I reverted (video speed changes might have this effect - I don't accelerate toward stopped cars as a rule  It's a good rule to have, I think). But yeah in the one case of the Saturn, I was behind it for a very long time. It was drifting left and right in the lanes, driving about 15 MPH under the speed limit as cars whizzed by us, and at stop lights it would stop 100 feet short of the car in front of it. Creep forward. Stop. Creep forward. Stop. Not fun for me in a stick shift. (I originally wanted to include that stuff in the video but, frankly, it was boring so I cut it.)

Finally, when I had an opportunity to pass it, it arbitrarily changed lanes in front of me. I used my blinker, they didn't.

So yeah I guess my point is, I did hold back and wait and see in that case, and finally got tired of it. You just don't see it.

In the case of the Camry at the stop light, I have no idea why he changed lanes in front of me. There is nowhere to turn left at for almost a mile down that road. Many times cars do that - and being in this area for years have taught me something. The car that seems the most eager to be the first at a light, is the car that takes off the slowest. Sure enough, the light turned green and it sat there for a couple seconds as I went. Even more ironically, it got back in the right lane behind me after making the left.

I know you didn't ask for all of this, but here you go. :)

Seen these kind of crap a few times. Once a guy decided to turn left while I am going full speed. Lucky for him I managed to evade him.

Overly passive drivers are usually the ones that cause the most accidents too, simply because they lack confidence in their abilities, and wind up over-compensating.
I 100% agree with this.

As far as driving aggressively, I think in same cases you have to. Otherwise you will end up with cars cutting in front of you left and right. It's unfortunate but true. Great vid BTW, I voted it up.

Very good point. I have seen so many times where a dude goes super slow, and forces the car that was behind him to switch lanes. Many accidents were caused by this.

If you are not confident about driving go take a bus.

FWIW Craw is a lot more patient than I am. I think when he speeds up the video it makes him look more aggressive than he is. But I didn't see anything I'd consider aggressive on his part. The people who say he is must be absurdly defensive, to the point of being dangerous.

Exactly, in big cities you have to drive like that or you'll constantly be getting big-dicked all over the road.

Yeah, not sure why people are saying HE is driving aggressive. In big cities, aggressive people take advantage of the passive drivers. If you leave a million car lengths in front of you, they will still cut your ass off.

Anyone who thinks they are immune from bad drivers simply because they drive like a little old lady needs a reality check.
