changed over to the smp client (using vmware with linux) but it's annoying to have to start/quit vmware all the time when i want to play a game :) but i'm curious, how long does it normally take to complete a % in the linux client?

Depends on the box & WU. Its about 10min/frame on my Q9450 @ 3.2GHz (using two cores) w/ the current WU (probably a p2605).

I seem to be doing just a bit under 30min/frame on my x2 4800, at 94% on my first smp unit so hopefully there won't be any problems when it submits..in updating the client to this version I ended up needing to disable the auto-ran version, fix the permissions of the files (extracted as root and tried to run from r3d user, oops :o) so now i login manually to it and run ./fah6 -smp manually..though i'm not sure how to actually quit it properly, I just go to a different window (ctrl+windows key+f2) log in, then shutdown that way, making fah get killed in the process :p

Are you using MDC's VM?

yes, I figured out to do ./folding stop to quit the folding manually, though I think having orignally extracted the latest fah client as root (instead of r3d user) might still be messing me up some, I couldn't get any new packets at all until i emptied out the work folder (i fixed what i thought was all of the problems with chmod, but maybe it will be better to delete all of the stuff and extract it again)

I know I've been absent for a while and I can't promise I'll be here more just yet....work is well, business is down over 20% and I'm having to do all sorts of extra stuff to try and generate business.....I've been here 20 years and this is about the worst I've seen things in our industry, I hope things improve soon!! I'm still folding all I can though!!

Well I unzipped mdc's vm again and tried following the directions he wrote, so now it works how it should (it autoruns fah without me needing to do it manually) however I noticed that it's running 6.01 beta 2, i've been trying to get it to update to 6.02 beta 1 without much success..I've tried editing getFAH for the new file and manually downloading it with wget and extracting it myself, but it always seems to defualt to 6.01 beta 2 still, though it's running for the moment at least

Just thought I'd check in real quick. Unfortunately, my Pentium D 805 system that was running 24/7 went belly-up. R.I.P. Not sure what I'm going to do yet. I'm still in the process of seeing what other parts in it are still good (power supply and/or motherboard+ went out).

As a result, I only have the Athlon XP and the Mac in the office. I took down F@H on the Mini at the moment so I don't risk losing that one in the meantime. If I can get something else in the 805's place, I'll bring up the Mini again as well.

Ahh, never even noticed this thread, checking in :) Hope that the gpu2 client supports 4800 series, I plan on upgrading as soon as the difference between 4850 and 4870 is clear.

The single 4870 beats the GX2 according to preliminary 3DMark06 benchmarks.
Does doing continuous F@H really shorten your CPU's lifespan even if the CPU is kept very cool? lolz.

Quick status update. I took apart the Pentium D system and the only casualties so far are the Codegen 400w power supply and the eVGA Geforce 7600GS card. The rest of it is okay though.

I managed to find my old ATI Rage Pro PCI card to hold me over in the meantime. Just have to live without Aero for now.

Folding has been running 24/7 for almost 4 years on my current system and it's still going strong.

Thanks

Thank you. ;-p

I think this gaming rig will be folding all weekend. So here comes massive F@H points. ;-p

And yet another status update...

Finally got the parts to fix up my PCs. I bought two ASUS EAH4850 cards for my Phenom desktop at home so that is now running Crossfire. When I'm working at home, I'll try out F@H GPU2 on it to see how it performs. The x1900GT went into my work system as well as a new Antec 500w power supply.

Now I have the Pentium D 805 folding 24/7 at work again, and the Mac Mini is folding again as well.
