Thinking about a Ryzen 3700X….

Up to you. I was just trying to help.
Also RGB components have been proven to show better performance.

I was joking with you, and I do appreciate the offer.

While I was going over their site this morning it occurred to me I don’t even know what size rad my case will take, so there’s another expense.

Re-use existing SSDs or nvme? Another potential expense.

In short, I’m not getting through this on the initial $800 budget I had for cpu/ram/mobo…. And while I’m not a tightwad, and I can afford the high end stuff, that’s not where my priorities are at the moment … that’s all KAC.

In $800 you can get CPU, RAM, Motherboard, NVME boot drive and a water cooler.

Which case do you have? I have a 10700 and a 5900X setup and for 1440P gaming and doing multi tasking both perform pretty much on par. So you can definitely upgrade, really depends on what you want.

You can, all depends what parts you pick. Re-use the SSD.

I think the case is a model D700, Corsair. Something like that. I’ll check when I get home. It’s not showing under my Microcenter purchases for some reason.

As far as platform goes, best bang for the buck covers it really. I read some reviews saying the 5800x beat out the 10700 in most benchmarks, but it didn’t look like enough to be noticeable in every day usage

This is the part where I get really frustrated with myself because I jump back and forth lol.

Common issue, you're not alone. Hard to gauge and really depends on what you'll use it more fore. I'm in the camp that AMD overpriced the 5000 series so Intel does look like a competitive alternative, especially if the software likes CPU clocks that Intel is known for.

As for RGB.... :bleh:

There is only 750D Corsair case that I know about and it will take a 360 rad on the top. You can use only a 240 rad for a 10700 or 11700 CPU.

And yes unless you are counting seconds to complete your work or hunting for 5-8 FPS in a game you won’t notice a difference in anything.

Since you will have the platform for it now, grab a gen4 nvme IMHO. Saves having to get one later and reinstalling Windows.

And if you go for the 11700 12th gen, make sure to update motherboard BIOS first as there have been significant improvements since launch.

Will do demo, thanks. I'm hoping to get back out there this weekend.

On the plus side, my wife is actually mad at me for not buying today :p Yeah...it's good lol.

No upgrade for me.

I really appreciate all the input guys, but I’m holding off until October. I’ll likely be getting the same setup, but due to a rather rude demand from the IRS in a letter we just got….I get to wait and see if there will be price drops after all.

Impeccable timing

Well crap.:(

It’s all good. We have the cash to pay it, but it knocks my % based budget off kilter. No point in ranting…there’s folks who can’t pay their mortgage much less an IRS burden.

That said…well…better not say it
