Official: "What did you do to your car today?" Thread

Two other puddles near by were full and we felt adventurous. I told my wife to go through it and when she did we just nose dived straight in. It was a stupid, I'm blaming me.

Engine is ok but we'll have to keep flushing her oil for a while to make sure, clutch is probably toast but it was a little wonky to begin with. I'm waiting on a call from the Badlands about it, today their best mechanic comes in and he's gonna play with it and then we'll know what the what is. It's not at all totaled, just gonna need some power cleaning after the mechanical stuff is repaired.

Bad news is I just heard back from the shop I took my Infiniti to and it's a busted propeller shaft. $1,400us to repair. :(

What year / model is yours again? They had a recall for faulty prop shafts…

Ah, we tried!

That’s a painful fixit bill :(

Yeah, but it's a fair price for it for the work involved and the other 3 estimates I got calling around were higher. I gave them the go ahead, hopefully they'll be able to get the part soon.

I haven't driven my car in months, I'm actually super excited that I'll be able to again so it's all good. Still haven't heard back on the Jeep though.

EDITED BITS: The part is between $150-300us and taking the old one off and putting the new one in is actually easy, it's just on my car you gotta drop at least a catalytic converter/steering box/transmission mount and a few other bits to access it. Without a lift I'd have no chance, with one it'd be a damned hard job for me. I'd rather let someone else play with all them rusted/crusted on bolts. ;)

I get it. I dropped 5k on a transaxle job once. It was a simple swap, but getting to the transmission on an 07 Saturn Vue requires an ungodly amount of work. Thankfully we got our money out of it and that money pit is long gone.

Still, it’s different when it’s a vehicle you love and want to keep.

They're currently installing the new propeller shaft in my car, with luck I'll be able to walk down and pick it up today. Mechanic is less than a mile away.

Got a call from the Badlands people. The jeep is gonna need a new clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing. They're saying $1,775us before taxes which blew my mind, I thought it'd be more than double that!

The guy working on it has owned 5 wranglers too so he knows them well and likes them, he even knew not to get the OEM throw out bearing because they suck! I think her jeep is in the best hands its ever been in, can't wait to see how it turns out.

Oh and they might have to change the oil a few more times along with filters, but I told them to go ahead and I trusted their judgement. They aren't trying to screw us, they really seem to be bending over backwards to help us as much as they can which I just am incredibly grateful for.

SIDENOTE: My wife was looking at crate engines in case ours has problems and she found an 8-banger hemi for $5,500... <sigh>

I picked up the C8 from the body shop. They did excellent work and things look as good as new.
I could not handle owning a car as nice as yours, I would be freaking out with every scratch and ding! (Plus the cops would suspend my license again within the first week of owning it. <double-sigh>)

Oh, it definitely ruined my mood up until I picked it up. Hell, the first night after it happened I slept like **** because I was thinking about it the entire time.

I get that. My car was busted in the driveway for the last few months because I wasn't sure what I was gonna do to it and it made me nauseous at times just from anxiety over it. Got her back a few hours ago and threw her battery holder back on because I hadn't put it since I wasn't sure if we were going to repair her and spent about an hour cleaning up her headlights with an orbital sander. A quick trip to the local car wash and I'm just happy as a clam to have my baby back.

It's been my daily driver for over 9 years now, I don't know that I've even owned another vehicle that long in my life.

We also heard on the Jeep. New clutch, throw out bearing, and pressure plate along with a couple more oil/filter changes and she should be just fine. Another $1,800us gone, but I think it's a bargain for what they're doing and I trust them which is invaluable. No clue on time but my car gets to stay in the garage again until it's back, then I'm gonna make my wife decide which Jeep she wants to keep in the garage because come winter Emmy gets her bay back!

Ever have the wheel off and the new rotor on when you realize you have the wrong sized brake pads? Not a happy feeling.

Ended up searching my garage and found a set of ceramics that were for her front end and everything worked out, but it took me a lot longer than it used to used to swap the front ends brakes out. I'm either old or lazy.

Had to replace the water pump. It only lasted a little over 3 years and just shy of 30K miles. It was an OEM ACDelco too. Apparently it started leaking pretty bad through the weep hole. The bolt-on pulley and drive belt flung coolant all over the place and made a pretty big mess. It was difficult to find where the leak was actually coming from because of that. While the coolant was drained I also replaced a couple hoses and the thermostat.

yesterday brought my car in at work to have the oil changed and while it was up tried to get my exhaust hangers replaced since only half were still holding, got one replaced with great difficulty the others i'll do later, at least the one i replaced was the worst of the three that were still holding on and my driver side tailpipe doesn't look like it's about to drop to the ground anymore

today replaced my plugs and coils

Gave the Porsche in warranty since its AC evaporator leaked. Fucking car is with the shop for 3 weeks. Such a bad time. Glad I had warranty otherwise this would've been one costly enterprise.
This car spends more time in the shop than in my garage or on the roads. Thinking about selling it and buying another Ford and calling it.

Get a Toyota the evap is right under the hood. 1 hr job tops. I guess Porshe put it in the dash like Chrysler eh?

Yup it was in the dash. The part shipment from Germany took about 2 weeks. It's fixed now and I didn't pay a dime so I can't be too mad. Thank to heavens I bought warranty.
My Ford evaporator died after 11 years in this heat. Porsche in its 3rd year. And people talk about quality of German cars. Second German car and not impressed (first was Audi Q7 and now this).
