NO FIX YET, PLEASE USE Averick's LINK TO SEND THEM A COMMENT/COMPLAINT B4 IT'S TOO LA

I don't have an email *to* Rovi to provide. I just used their feedback form at: http://www.rovicorp.com/company/11088.htm. That got me a standard autoreply... Thanks for you interest, we'll get back to you.
Ok, thank you. I wasn't seeing anything but a phone number so I'm glad you came back. I fired off the message below to the above feedback link. Please everyone that READ's this thread send them Feedback about this or we may never get any service back... I'd suggest also referencing the URL below being locked and that the program we are using is(Gemstar Guide Plus + System - ATI). [ATI told us a long time ago that they have washed their hands of us...no longer support this software - as if they ever fully supported it :nag: ] so if we can't get ROVI to see that there are a lot of people put out by this then we may not get any action... as we never did get the look up server turned back on or moved to a new location that any of us know about.

Dear Rovi Representative (owners of Gemstar GuidePlus);
On or about December 11-13th, 2009 = everyone who uses GUIDE PLUS+(TM) System - ATI ==> A Gemstar Program
provided with ATI's All-In-Wonder & TV Wonder products no longer (was) able to update it's EPG.
The following message is displayed when attempting to get the updates. Message: "Failed to Connect to the
Server. Please Check the internet connection and try to download again"
The problem likely relates to this NEW development; the URL that has been working for Guide Plus to update
our computer application http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp has suddenly (WITHIN THE LAST WEEK),
become password protected?
WHAT WE NEED & ARE REQUESTING: If this was done in error, please remove the password protection so that
we can once again access the updates to our Program Guide =OR= please provide a new URL (one without a
password) so that we may continue to get our updates. We need immediate attention to this issue as this
is not an isolated incident, it is affecting everyone who uses the Gemstar-Guide Plus + - ATI program (in
the U.S.).
======================
This has become a slightly frustrating process using your product as our EPG. Last year January, you or
the previous owner of Gemstar-Guide Plus + - ATI stopped updating the listing server (the one that
provides our software with the current URL to get listings). So now we are boxed in, the look up server
is dead or has been shut off (DEC 2008/JANUARY 2009) & you or the previous owners failed to respond to
that situation at the time; it was ONLY through online message boards that we were able to disseminate the
updated URL & the procedures for manually installing it into the registry of the computer to be able to
get the updated EPG listings.
This time however, with the listing server not working & now the actual program URL locked with a password
(HAPPENED LATE LAST WEEK on your end) we have no way of getting any more listings without YOUR ACTION!
Please respond A.S.A.P.
Sincerely,

XXXXXXXXXXX

PHONE NUMBER: 1800-386-7380 ROVI = I sat on hold for 8 minutes before it kicked me into voice mail.... Left a message. (it says contact your manufacturer...but of course that is of NO benefit to us).
If you listen to the phone voice recorder about 50 seconds into waiting a message comes online to go to
www.tvgos\custhelp.com ?????? that's what the voice says a backslash...??? anyway that obviously doesn't work & I found some OLDER URL's like http://tvgos.custhelp.com ....that doesn't work either.

The voice message also gives this EMAIL ADDRESS: I'm going to try it now:
[email protected]
EDIT EDIT EDIT: THIS EMAIL ADDRESS IS NOT VALID??? OMG I LOVE IT WHEN AUTOMATED PHONE MESSAGES GIVE YOU WRONG EMAIL & WRONG WEBSITE URLS TO BOOT!

Seems to be valid as I didn't get a failure to deliver response.

Another Phone number:

ATI card

ATI card

i am using an All In Wonder Pro. I gather that the problem I am having is the same as the one everyone else is having at this time. When I am in Guide Plus and I go to download new listings I get an error message that states "Failed to connect to the server. Please check the internet connection and try to download again". When I use the Guide Plus System Update Wizard I get "An error occurred when downloading the patch".

I as well have lost the ability to download current listings. I have joined this forum, so that hopefully when someone finds something out, I can get in on the info.
I wish that I could help... but I cant even get the On-Demand function to work properly. (not that I really want to).
Thanks in advance for anything found out.
Ed

I tried the [email protected] and got a failure to deliver. I went directly to the tvguide.com help site and sent the message. I also went to Rovicorp's help page and tried to send a message but every time I tried to submit the message it kept knocking be back to the homepage.
I also just lost the TVGuide channels from cable company. It's enough to make me just remove the cable input from my card.

After a year of it not working, I got it working again...and now it ****ed out again. -_-. I only downloaded the new listings once after my fix in November, and have been too busy since then to download new listings until I tried recently, to which I got a "failed to connect to server" box.

I wonder if our ATI cards or now obsolete as far as receiving Guide Plus info.
I stated this many times, this is aging software. We need to find something for the new era of digital. I always love having listings on my computer, and all I have is analog cable because digital is too much $$$.

Chill-out CoolSteve. Don't you dare give up. We can't give up.

I keep searching and coming back here, hoping for good news or suggestions. This is a lousy situation. I feel like I've been burned, ripped-off, cheated and abused.

ATI, AMD, Gemstar, Macrovision or Rovi must be legally responsible for providing our TV listing data. When I bought my All-in-Wonder ($350 - $400 Cdn.), nothing indicated the TV listings would only be available for X weeks, days or years. They were part of the package. The product isn't whole without that listing data.

I really don't understand why ATI or Gemstar didn't warn us about what was coming. The Guide Plus+ software feeds us ads in two spots. There's ad rotation, tracking and statistics. All that stuff is meant to be updated at either every opening of the program or listing download. That ad content, I believe, has always been house ads -- promoting ATI products and Gemstar. I don't think they every had paying advertisers. The ad content could easily have been replaced at any time with useful warnings about the various company changes and suggestions or instructions for us consumers.

I'm shocked that so many big companies could be so negligent for so long -- then just leave us twisting in the wind.

Some might suggest I, and my kind, make some lifestyle changes... Read a book, go camping, help at the soup line or hit the bar. Great suggestions, all. But I'm a productive and contributing member of society. I do "good works." I contribute to my physical community and am virtually kind to others. Thanks in part to decent medication and a good work environment, I absolutely love my life the way it is -- or was until this week. And now, I'm not even ashamed to admit it, I feel traumatized.

We need our TV listing data downloads restored. We've already paid for it by purchasing the cards which included Guide Plus+ as part of the software package. Surely we have a legal right. But more important, I think, a company with a culture of corporate responsibility would accommodate us. And as of now, it seems, Rovicorp is the last one holding the bag.

If enough of us can successfully navigate their corporate structure and find the right person, I'm sure they'll do the right thing.

Don't surrender -- anyone. Keep trying, be nice about it, and keep trying some more. If we needy few are a small group, it costs Rovi nothing to be responsible and there's potential PR value for them. If we lot are a large enough group to cost Rovi in bandwidth, we create advertising revenue potential. There are a lot of good reasons for the current owner to provide our TV listings, and very few reasons why the shouldn't.

If corporate responsibility doesn't provide, greed will. We just have to make ourselves known.

And here's another Rovicorp input form URL...
http://www.rovicorp.com/company/11032.htm

I just used it send what is below the ############### stuff.
It's been 71.5 hours since I first reached out to Rovi. Nothing yet except a standard autoresponse... Thanks... We'll get back to you.

It's been 23.5 hours since I tried to join the Rovi Resource Center, which sent an autoresponse saying allow 24 hours or one business, or contact: [email protected].

To everyone, I say "Don't give up." Rovicorp will hear us and respond. We just have to keep trying until we reach the right person.

This is about corporate responsibility and ad revenue potential.

ATI sold TV capture cards with Gemstar Guide Plus+ for Windows as part of the package. It provided TV listings as part of the ATI software. My ATI card cost $350 - $400 Cdn. The selling-point for me was how I could right-click on a program in Guide Plus+ and select record, watch or other stuff.

AMD now owns ATI. Rovi now owns Gemstar.

Last week someone at Rovi, or with administrator access, implemented username/password protection at the root level on the server that provides our TV listing data -- http://144.198.100.134

The script used to update our Guide Plus+ software is in sub-directory of that root:
http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp

We have already lost one week of quality TV time. Lets fix the problem quickly or provide a fast, reasonable alternative. If welcome, I can provide suggestions and participate in testing.

I represent only myself. But I am part of a larger community dedicated (or addicted) to their Gemstar Guide Plus+ for Windows. There is nothing on the market that compares. We can't move on. And what we all purchased didn't have a disclaimer about only working for a period of time.

I think consumers in my situation have a legal right to the TV listing data. But more importantly, I think Rovi would feel naturally compelled to accommodate us. Your corporate culture demands it.

And as no small potential bonus to Rovicorp, the Guide Plus+ software has some ad revenue potential. The current program supports two large ad spaces. I haven’t ripped apart the code for fine detail but, I see it has built-in accommodation for ad rotation, tracking and stats. Not viewing the code, I don’t know if or how Guide Plus+ integrates it, but the primary value for consumers is how it lets you schedule TV viewing or recording events. That’s all tracked and recorded and must have some value.

Also worth a mention… Guide Plus+ provides TV listing data based on postal/zip code. Before first run, it requests user data – first name, last name, yada, yada, yada and email address.

Show me a sales or marketing person that can’t make money from all this, and I’ll show you a future (insert insult here).

If Rovicorp isn’t sold on the morality of restoring our TV listing downloads and/or, if they don’t see enough revenue potential and/or, they don’t see a PR benefit or consequence worth the bother…. Then just consider me *begging* to know what it will take to get our already purchased technology working again.

Please respond.

Strange... I've been submitting forms at Rovi and posting updates here. But my forms haven't been getting an autoresponse and my postings here have been vanishing. Very strange.

Anyway... I just sent the below to Rovi, using their tech support form at:
http://www.rovicorp.com/support/8459.htm?link_id=topnav

Again, no autoresponse. I wonder if this posting will also vanish.

If Rovi has an unrelated need to use the server authentication blocking our listings, maybe all we need to do is edit a registry key…

Registry Key: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Gemstar\ETV\URL"
String: "1"
Current Value: "http://144.198.100.134/gtidl/gdnget2.asp"
Possible Fix: "http://USERNAME:[email protected]/gdnget2.asp"

I sent emails (online to these sites... I sent it multiple times to the 2nd one down for [CE consumers & Customer support] just to be sure, and unsuccessfully to the email that the automated voice service told me to use...

I have some hope that they went home for the holidays and locked down the servers for security reasons or (by accident)...similarly to how they would in the past leave for the holidays and let the the guide updates lapse. I think this also helps explain why we aren't getting any response back from anyone at there customer service end. The more the emails (online) pile up the better IMHO because when they get back they may actually see this as a problem and get to the bottom of it b/c of all the complaints received in their abscense.

Someone a page back also mentioned that their EPG (TV Guide) through their cable company is also down. (This isn't the thread like AVSforum where that would be widely reported on) but maybe there are lots of people also experiencing that...while a different device it might not be a tremendous leap to think that the loss of their service is also related to ours.

EDIT: I called +1 408-562-8400 ROVI HQ in California and got a real live operator. She transferred me to (I believe his name was Mark) his answering service he is the head of TV Guide listing blah blah blah it was hard for me to listen & remember that part as I was trying to formulate what I wanted to say to him. (I also sent an email to the Mark email above~suppose it's the same person????!????)

EDIT EDIT: I found another email (similar to the last one I posted, I sent an email to this one as well, going on 5 minutes it hasn't been bounced back)

I'm trying this a THIRD time:

Has anyone that's emailed Rovi gotten any replies yet? Those of you that called, what was their explanation for this?

The last time this happened and I emailed them, the working address I used was Ce_customer_support[at]tvguide.com . Since that is/was TV Guide, why is Rovi involved with this and not Lionsgate Entertainment Corporation who now owns TV Guide?

BTW, the last time this happened and I contacted them at the address above, they didn't even know there was a problem! Or at least they wouldn't admit to it. So I didn't even try that address this time.

What the heck keeps happening to my posts??
Sometimes, due to type of content posted (eg links etc), the spam filter will flag a new member's posts for review in the mod queue. I've cleared your post & deleted the duplicates; this will cease to be an issue as you continue posting. Sorry for the hassle!

I see. Thanks for the info. ;) It's strange because the post was there, then it was gone. Refreshing and it was still gone. So I posted a third time and it still didn't show up. But my post to which you replied (obviously) did show up. I left, I came back, and the post was there! I edited it, then it disappeared again! :hmm: Now I see it's still gone so I'm trying it yet a 4th time. (Good thing I have a habit of saving all posts at all forums, that prevents you from having to type the post over and over again).

So here's the 4th attempt:
