How about dem gas prices?

I just recently went full time remote for work and it couldn't have come at a better time. I was only going into the office 2-3 times a week, but its still a 50+ mile a day commute total and my current car isn't so great on MPG.

Something with good timing in my life for a change.

Current versus historic gas prices.

It seems like I remember a time, decades ago, when people were predicting that we'd already reached Peak Oil and that gas prices would inevitably climb. Here we are, decades later, still buying gas powered cars wondering why gas prices are so high. At some point, when people warn us since the 70's that gas prices would go up to unbearable levels, and we just keep pretending that won't ever happen, it's on us.

I just talked to my co-worker and he asked if I had gassed up yet, but the first thing he said was “Damn Biden” and I just….didn’t feel like putting the effort into the conversation. Just…..stop. :(

Didn't you know? Presidents actually have a gas prices button that sits behind the Oval Office desk. Biden's just being stingy with his.

He’s making billions because he has all the chips being held on boats to force gas prices up while he buys EV stock and then when he has all the money he’s going to release the chips and save the day so people will love him instead of Trump.

I’m not joking. Serious as a heart attack.

The last time prices got this high we ended up in a recession. There were other factors there, but when folks can't afford gas they start spending less on other stuff.

I wish EVs were more affordable that still had descent range, so more people could afford them.

Wait, what? Is that an actual theory?

This would really help. We'd want to invest in incentives for EVs, and build out a nationwide charging network to support this, while also investing in renewable generation and storage to keep up with the clear increase in demand on the grid that we'll see if the country does quickly transition over.

We should've started decades ago, but the 2nd best time is now.

I heard similar from my mechanic, so I would say yes, it’s an actual theory being pushed out there.

Yeah the damn RX7 will be over $100 to fill if I'd run it down that low.

Sigh.

I had a 2007 RX-8 in California back when gas prices for Premium were over $5/gal. Unfortunately, it required Premium and only got 13 mpg, so I sold it. No way I could afford to pay over $80 per fill-up every 5 days.

Yeah luckily I don't drive it a ton, since it has a massive gas tank in it and also requires premium. Kind of depressing that's all the RX8 got for gas, I typically average 17-19 with 400hp.

Def walking more which is fine since I live in town. But even if I wasnt would be hard to justify a hybrid or other vehicle to save maybe 100$ a month on gas.

I figure id save maybe 200$ if prices doubled from here on out. New car payments are lot more than that.

LOL, same here. Loven my RX-8 but the damned thing got piss poor gas mileage.

Was always odd to me the RX8 got such poor mileage, I had Turbo II RX7s that got much better mileage with more power. My 87 Turbo II when it was stock could get 28mpg highway, and my 88 Turbo II with some 350hp got 21mpg highway.

Paid $31 for 6 gallons of gas. Pretty nuts. Prices jumped over 20cents/gal overnight.

Policies that administrations implement can definitely affect gas prices, though. Not necessarily the president himself.

Like the one where Biden has granted more oil drilling permits in 1 year than Trump did in his first 3?

Sure. I'm not on any side. I think people who say president's (administrations) have no affect on gas prices are wrong, though. Policy sends ripples.

There wasn't much reason to pump a bunch of oil permits during the Trump administration. There is now, though. The oil permits and how the current administration is boasting it as a talking point is .. misleading. It will take some time before there is production on those lands, and longer before the production is meaningful. Regardless, it's a move in the right direction. We should have started doing this the second Russia started massing troops on the borders, but hindsight is 20/20.

Not to get too P&R, but jeez am I glad the former pres said what he said about Putin. The man killed any chance of an attempt at running in 2024 all on his own.

to kill his chances of running and winning, he would have to:

1) Regularly praise Democrats

2) Call for increased immigration

3) Say that black lives matter

4) Say the wall was a stupid idea and he was wrong

5) Say that he lost the 2020 election fair and square

6) Say Hilary would have been a better President than himself

I need an electric car with a 500mile range when loaded with 5 people and their luggage.
Sadly, doesn't exists. So I have my 17mpg acadia for road trips.
