Game pass

I got 3 months free of Game Pass with my 3700X. Never looked into Game Pass before so I'm now wondering what its like. Apparently you just install the Xbox app, login with my Microsoft account and I'm good to go? Some questions:

Obviously after the 3 month period I can just no longer login and play the games?

What if Game Pass subscription runs out before I finish a game? Can I transfer a save file if I buy the game for another game client?

How is installation of the games? Is it no different than installing PC games from any other game client, or are there restrictions? No modding? Local save files, or cloud saves only?

No modding as far as I've seen. Local and cloud saves backed up to your xbox(?) account. Saves (at least for Astroneer) were deleted upon uninstalling the game but after I got 3 more months and reinstalling the game the saves came back from the cloud. Saves are located in a random folder (again at least for Astroneer) that you have to use PCGamingWiki to know the general location of.

Also yeah download the Xbox beta app and log in and you're good to go.

As for expiration goes.. Games are sometimes shuffled out of game pass aka the leave the service and your left with no game until it returns (if it ever does) or you buy it at a discount from app and then it's yours to keep forever like any other game you buy.

Eww, I dont like the idea of games possibly getting removed before I finish them. But I guess its to be expected with any subscription service.

But thanks for explaining. At the very least it might be cool to demo some games I was interested in, and then go buy them on a better game client. I don't know if i want to own any games on this client. Too many game clients already as is.

Totally legit way to look at it. I do the same.

Shh :3

Im a collector not and erector.

Yeah every game i start i play to completion. I also go back and replay games often as well.

Honestly i dont think a subscription service is for me, unless I was going to keep renewing it. These Netflix like services seem more suited to people who buy tons of games to play for an hour or so then move on to something else. But that wouldn't make much sense in my case. I'm very particular and selective with the games i play. 99% of the games on Game Pass i have no interest in.

For some people video games are like porn. They can't get enough but they only play the same one for a few minutes and there done with it.

edit: the spelling of (they're as there) is not a grammatical error. I was typing with one hand and couldn't reach the apostrophe key without my hand cramping up... :o

Are games with Game Pass encrypted like with the MS Store?
If i could successfully get passed the thicc as **** file permissions needed to access the files i could tell you. Almost managed on Marvel vs Capcom Infinite trying to rip the models but alas i just ended up ****ing up the permissions so i couldnt play the game any more lol.

Been playing through Rage 2 with game pass. Man this game has some great graphics but shitty gameplay. Thankfully I hear it's really short.

That pretty much answers it as a Yes, thanks.

Not interested in any Store or GP game until files can be easily accessed and moded.

Minecraft Dungeons is available on pc via gamepass. Its basically diablo in the Minecraft universe. Supports 1-4 player coop. Only things I've heard negative about it is the length, and some of the bosses can be difficult to solo.

My 6 year old has been having a blast with it. I might indulge as well as I found the gameplay to be satisfying.

Gamepass has a few gems for cross play co op,

-Gears 5
-Sea of Thieves
-State of Decay 2
-Halo Anniversary

Also an all around great deal for sampling things and branching out a bit. Its selection is weak in some areas but what do you expect?

Some new games on Gamepass that might tickle your dongalong.

Dirt 5
Ghost of a Tale
Medium
Code Vein
All the Yakuza's

Was able to take Code Vein off my Steam wishlist and have been playing it a bit. Not sure I'll see it through, but it's a different take on the Souls-like. Might be a bit too anime for me; it's a bit too goofy and over-the-top. Plus I should make a drinking game out of their interactions and take a swig every time someone says "slake". I mean, seriously... who says that word?

I noticed they added Wreckfest on there recently. I've had that on Steam for years. Good arcade racer. New content added all the time.
