Playing it now, pretty fun and no major issues. When I played it a while back I had lots of crashes.
How does it look to you in terms of visuals?
If I had one criticism of Xen it's that the barrel section is too long. Always hated it in the original and they made longer and more annoying. Game isn't hard on normal but there are a lot of things that can kill you pretty quick, especially environmental hazards and spike damage types (tanks or gargantuas).
In Interloper. All the alien barrels being moved along the conveyor belts, going up and up and around and jumpng on jump pads and man it gets boring. Feels like they made it a lot longer but maybe I just blacked out the original. What is that barrel section you are talking about?
It's my understanding that the barrels were the cause of the "ed_alloc no free edicts" crash as well. They would get jammed at either their entrance or exit points and it would end up having way more in the level than there was supposed to be. The game would start running extremely slowly and eventually crash. Whether it's been fixed in the new version or not I don't know. I recently started a new playthrough and have a long way to go to get to that point. The old saves weren't compatiible with the new version.
I didn't get a single crash in my 26 hours.
I literally couldn't complete the game without some console commands. Would crash every time at the same place in Interloper.
Are you playing the new beta?
No crashes here either, played perfectly, except rim light is a bit rough (white outlines on some edges).
I know I'm not alone with this problem. There's a 13 page thread about it in the Steam forums.
The source of the problem is already identified. It's not MSAA.
Apparently, they did fix the "ed_alloc no free edicts" issue. I just played through Interloper with no issues other than dying a couple of times. And I saw another guy on the Steam forums (the same guy that gave me the console commands to work around the problem originally) mention that the problem had been fixed. But now I know from personal experience that it's been fixed.
I did get a bit of a slow down in Residue Processing in the conveyor belt sequence. That might have been that way before, though. It's been a long time since my original playthrough.
I think I will wait until the game is out of the latest beta.
I already bought the game but I'll wait a bit longer to play.
