Black Mesa v1.0

Cool, I will have to download this again. I got this way back when they first started working on it and released an alpha. Thanks for letting us know it is done! :D

Unless they made some radical balance changes I'll not be trying again. I played the last beta after the Xen release and gave up. I don't know if its a bad adaption or simply Half Life has aged badly but I really didn't enjoy it. More frustrating than fun.

I haven't played the xen parts yet. Guess it's time for me to go back and replay it all. I'm about due for a HL replay anyway (played it ~10 times since release).

I don't play betas anymore. I wait for a few patches on 99% of the games. For the exact reason you state.

I don't have time to replay a game.

I bought this earlier this evening. Had a little trouble getting it to run well. Was quite stuttery until I did a driver update. After that, it was acceptable. But still a little choppy in spots until I turned off vsync.

I'd love to be able to carve out enough time to play through HL, and then follow up with Black Mesa right after. Maybe someday I'll get to it.

The remake is quite similar but not. Gameplay wise it is similar but more difficult. Everything is bigger and areas where you previously used short range weapons, you have to use long range weapons. Much more use of long range weapons is general. Game is much harder in general because enemies are more agile than in the original.

Some of the game play elements are taken out. For example the falling roof dodge when entering the Lambda complex. Blowing out the lambda port door with bombs are gone and replaced by a crank wheel.

Is the game good, yes it is and will keep you busy for a while just like the original.

Dialogue is pretty much the same as in the original. I wished they could have added more in this game.

I don't remember the mines being that visible in the original game. Makes clearing a minefield an easier if somewhat tedious task.

Also, I don't remember having unlimited flashlight and sprint in the original. I might be remembering that wrong and confusing it with HL2.

They could but some of the cast of half life specifically scientist and Eli are dead.

Developer 1: Ok now we need to recreate the Xen levels.
Developer 2: I just saw the movie Avatar.
