Assetto Corsa from Kunos Simulazioni

I like my car.

My best lap times aren't being saved on Trackdays.

I'm guessing its because the are not 100% 'clean' but I don't see any in game indicator that tells me if I'm on a dirty lap or not.

Does this game have a dirty lap indicator?

If you haven't get Crew Chief. It's another free mod (works with other racing games too) and it will let you know if you go off track limits along with other useful info.

The game tells me when I go off track? There's a notification the first time you go off track.

Yeah, figured it out. 'Penalties' needs to be ON; this is what gives you a red banner like warning at the top of the screen when you go off track too far.

VR:
I suppose it shouldn't really be a surprise but I have found it interesting that faster lap times occur much easier for me when in VR.

For online play, I can see VR almost like a cheat advantage. Depth perception, positioning and speeds are way easier to judge.

That probably suggest that you don't have the proper FOV when going 2D.

I initially dismissed your theory but after thinking about it I thought I'd test myself, why not, its free.

With some earnest back to back testing, you are pretty much right.
Mainly due to depth perception of 3D, I still found it overall easier and less stressful in do faster and more consistent lap times in VR.

lap 5 = 1:05.867
best = 1:05.867
total = 6:06.101

My regular FOV that I've been using for years:
lap 1 = 1:26.801

lap 8 = 1:06.319
lap 9 = 1:05.084

2D lower FOV:
lap 1 = 1:34.272

lap 3 = 1:05.610
lap 4 = 1:10.663

Great follow-up!

In general, all things being equal, VR nor 2D have an advantage. It just comes down to which the user prefers and which they are more comfortable with... Comfort will breed better and more consistent times whatever that is for each user.

TLDR: ~10% gain in fps from video card overclocking

After messing around for several hours getting my case to flow air better.
Then doing some 1080ti overclocking, this is the best improvement the card can muster.

I reran each static scene test twice to flesh out any 'first loading' advantages or disadvantages.

Edit: Assetto Corsa at 4k with Sol, Custom Shader Patch and 80% of settings maxed

Is there any way to prevent or tell the AI to use certain tires?

I'll squeak out a 1:04 lap only to see the AI ripping a 1:01 cause they are on the stickier tires.

Picking 'same car' doesn't mean the exact same apparently.

FYI, same can be said for ABS and TCS I suppose.

There are a few good open road maps which are fun. Lake Louie and LA Canyons are good too.

What kind of progress are you making Destroy? I'm approaching the 50% mark in the career but probably going to take a break for a bit.

As long as your enjoying it.

I've learnt with these kind of games that, if I don't use the career or campaign mode, I end up only playing the cars, aircraft etc. that interest me and I usually end up missing some fun stuff.

As of now, thats just been two series with the Tatuus FA1, a car that I would have been too scared to go near otherwise, but which I really came to like.

Bah, I tire of trying to find one great post processing filter.

Does anyone know if you can change the exposure of the sky separate from everything else?

No matter how many filters I try,
I either get white sky with perfect real world
or
proper blue sky and 'shaded' over saturated world.

Just a heads up that FSR 2.1 works in AC for older video cards like my 1080ti.

At 4k, I go from 53fps to ~74fps on ultra quality FSR.

The only major down side is you HAVE to run FXSS and can NOT use MSAA.

Not sure the blur AA is worth the frame rate gain....hmmm.
