Assetto Corsa is a new PC-based racing game for Windows, expected to be released in 2012. Assetto Corsa is being designed to provide a very realistic driving experience, with single player and multiplayer options, officially licensed cars and tracks developed using Laser scan technology, and the highest level of accuracy possible in reproducing real world motor racing environments.

Also, Assetto Corsa will allow for considerable customisation and modification, in order to satisfy the expectations of professional simracers, gamers who prefer to approach the driving experience more progressively, and hobbyists who just like to collect lots of cars and tracks.

Wow this game has some sick texturing going on.

Its too bad I am horrible with racing sims and I dont have a wheel.

As long if you have a decent video card I don't think eye candy in general will be incredibly taxing since modern GPUs eat textures and lighting(excluding AO) like that for breakfast, more worried about how it pushes the CPU.

The guys doing AC also worked on NetKar Pro which is said to have the best physics of any sim yet made. I haven't tried it.

CARS is being made by Slightly Mad Studios who made Shift and Shift 2.

I think CARS will be more an arcade game and AC may be the sleeper hit sim of the year. CARS may sell more as it's going to be more mainstream. AC may eat GTR3's or rFactor 2's lunch- it's directed at that crowd of gamers.

We will see.

Now in a racing game how often are you going to be looking at the track like this?

And when you are racing, how noticeable will it really be? it will all be just one big blur anyways :p

One's going to be the best sim racer of the decade while the other will be nice to look at.

I absolutely cannot wait for this one.

IMO, the videos (driving) looked very sterile. If I didn't know where they came from, I'd think it was rFactor2. If they don't do something to wow people, they'll have the same small imprint on sim racing as they do today.

Netkar Pro still has arguably the greatest tire physics ever made. Nothing has surpassed it. These guys made netkar pro. I have high hopes.

It's a pretty well known consensus. Although a consensus doesn't mean fact it sure says a lot.

That fact that they have such a small footprint on sim racing (compared to iRacing, rFactor and the others), I would say that's not necessarily the case. I liked netKar for what it was... I messed with it since it began many, many years ago. It's a good sim, but it's missing a lot things that would make it a great sim. Heck, even RaceDepartment which organizes races for most popular sims has a hard time getting 10 drivers for a netKar race.
