Waiting on amd artic islands gpu

I'm current playing psychonauts, Titan's Quest Immortal Throne, Diablo 3, Diablo 2 LOD, Half Life 2, Portal 2, Divinity Original Sin, Dragon Age Origins, Rift, Injustice Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition, Elder Srolls Oblivion, Skyrim, and Trine 2. I do plan on playing Fable Legends, when it comes out. I'm wondering if I should wait on Amd Artic Islands or go for the current top cards, which are the Amd Radeon R9 390x, Amd Radeon R9 Fury, or Nvidia Geforce 980 Ti? I forgot to mention I only game at 1080p.

I recommend several computers with all sorts of goodies in it. AMD, Nvidia, Intel . . . You can never have too many GPU's and they are never too new. :D

Now on the practical side, if you are gaming just fine, not interested in big epeens or don't have a junkies mind set with computer graphics cards - I'll would wait.

Please don't bring up your habits on here, just wanted the answer to a question. Thank you.

Seems like you took the question out with your edit. What is the question?

I'll believe it when I see actual AMD products minted by Samsung. I've heard so many times how AMD is going to use GloFo for this or for that and then TSMC ends up being the good old factory the GPUs came out of.

I don't care who makes it, just get the dam thing out the door soon as feasibly possible.

I smell that shadow001 is preparing his ... salaries.... for a quad Arctic's r400 16gb HBM2.0 toys...

You know me too well.......:D

Samsung's 14nm process may actually allow a more agressive design that what TSMC would allow using their 16nm process, which is what Nvidia's is stuck with......So Greenland might have the edge over Pascal, since in the end and all else being equal, it all comes down to how many transistors you can stuff into one die, while staying within the usual power limits.

With the transition from 28nm directly to 14nm, and the power consumption of the process dropping to half of what it is at 28nm, we may be looking at a Greenland GPU with 18 billion transistors, if the die is the same size as Fiji ( 600mm^)

This just confused me and got me scratching my head:

http://techreport.com/news/29480/am...i-graphics-card-to-the-second-quarter-of-2016

So samples do exist right now, but only due in early Q2 2016 because of VR, though if we read the news that states it's Samsung producing Greenland using their 14nm process, they also state it'll be out in the summer of 2016....:hmm:

So what are the odds of Gemini using a pair of Fiji GPU's, released best case scenario in April 2016, is pretty much matched in performance by Greenland just a few months later using just a single high end GPU?

So the point of releasing Gemini is?.......It's time at the top might be maybe 3~4 months at most...:bleh:

Why would Nvidia be stuck with TSMC? It says Samsung also has Apple and Nvidia as customers. Also they mention AMD using Samsung is meant to balance GF's ability to make 14 nm as it may not be able to accommodate all their customers.

Guess we'll know for sure when the first reviews of Pascal come out by mid next year, as they usually mention where the GPU's are made......:hmm:

Well if AMD shifts the X2 to use HBM2 (Fiji supposedly supports HBM2) giving it 16gb vice 8gb. That would not be too bad and would make the card last a lot longer in the scheme of things. As for next generation, I don't see it happening until Aug - Oct 2016. Meaning if the X2 comes out in April, it will be at least 6 months before Greenland hits, maybe small quantities and hefty prices to go along with it.
