System Shock stuff. (System Shock Remake, Kickstarter/Demo Up!)

Bad news, project on hiatus as they reassess the goals. CEO wants to go back to a faithful recreation of original game.

What the hell? I didn't even know they changed the project from a remaster to a completely new game.

Man, if I was a backer I'd be insanely pissed off that they changed what they originally said they were doing. And this is why I never back kickstarters.

In the statement from Nightdive, CEO Stephen Kick wrote, “I have put the team on a hiatus while we reassess our path so that we can return to our vision. We are taking a break, but not ending the project. System Shock is going to be completed and all of our promises fulfilled.”

No matter what he states, once things stop, they rarely start again. I am not optimistic on this game ever coming out.

Below are a couple of articles about this. Basically it sounds as though Nightdive Studios let ambition get the best of them, burned through the Kickstarter funds, and were unable to get additional funding when they ran out of money.

I think they had good intentions, but it seems that their project planning was absolutely terrible, and that is what led to this bad situation. I know that things happen and people make mistakes, but this really seems like managerial incompetence to me.

I am disappointed but I have faith that it will restart not to far in the future. They are currently working on System Shock 3 so maybe after that or other small projects it will begin production again.

I backed it for $100. =\

I don't see it restarting, they had the best chance to pitch it to publishers with money in the bank and a supporter base.

Maybe in the distant future 5+ years, another team might go for a remaster

Wow, this blows.

Agreed.

Set goal>Adjust expectations>focus and develop towards desired goal.

Too bad, I was really looking forward to this.

I would love it if they go back to the faithful remake idea. I'm really hoping this will see the light of day sometime. :(

Same here.

A faithful remake of SS1 and SS2 using the engine/aethetics from alien isolation or even the dead space games...I would kill for that.

It's not like they would have to have meetings on what systems to create or what game play elements to cut, etc...Just put the exact same mechanics, audio, and levels in, update the graphics (using the OG concept art) and call it a day! The game was perfect as is, just update the visuals.

Good joke, no one is working on this, they are just bullshit dates so people don’t sue them/reverse pledges and wait out long enough that people forget.

Links?

"As we reported in February, some of the team working on the project has changed with the return to a more straightforward remake. Nightdive didn't talk in specifics about those staff changes.
"Our intention is to ship exactly the game that was promised, with as much of the features that were promised as we can, in a timeframe that will get it out as fast as we can. Our expectation is probably Q1 of 2020."

No links but every time a kickstarter/indiegogo project had a "delay" and release date promised 2 years from original nothing ever comes of them, just dead unupdated pages.

Probably a handful of devs working on it in their spare time to minimize the death threats. Not a bad idea, see you guys in 2025.
