Official 6x00 Stock Thread(or lack thereof)

Wow a lot of people have their head in the sand about shipping issues and want to blame companies for it. Nearly every major retailer has been issuing warnings about long shipping delays for the last month or more, outside of the computer hardware scene. So why does anyone believe that it wouldn't effect computer hardware? Waiting to ship their products would only make matters worse, because they would be farther behind and delayed even worse.

You can't blame AMD, Nvidia, or any of them if they shipped out a Million cards and they are sitting on a dock somewhere, or even on a ship waiting to dock but have to quarantine for X days due to COVID.

LordHawk, just because planes are not carrying passengers doesn't remove the cost factor of air shipping vs shipping via water or rail.

Edit: Also, unlike when Nvidia launched the RTX 3000 series in September, AMD is dealing with Holiday shipping as November kicked off the Holiday shopping rush, which in itself during perfect conditions causes shipping problems around the world.

Bill hardly any planes are carrying passengers due to the pandemic. Accept it's going to be dearer but what's the alternative. Today, really. This has made AMD and Frank Azor especially the laughing stock of the graphics world. A reference launch with a few hundred cards is bad but an AIB launch with none, zero, nada. How low can they go?

Here's a quote from Jay2C..

"There was a lot of expectation from folks saying AMD stock would be great once AIB stock launches. Retailer after retailer is now saying they got ZERO inventory for tomorrow embargo drop on custom cards. This is so much worse than expected. @AMD this was 100% botched. Even AMD fanboys have to admit, this was so much worse than NVIDIA launch in every single way. We needed AMD to deliver and unfortunately they showed us how a bad launch can get even worse."

Like him or not he speaks the truth. It's difficult to defend the indefensible.

so they still are not going to put mass cargo on planes

NV isn't doing any better but it is all AMD's fault

Come on though, Europe got like <20 cards, if that is all that you can muster, you delay the launch.

People already know how the cards perform, there was no need to do this pretend-launch of AIB cards.

I don't think their ever was a launch of a new ATi / AMD card that someone didn't get one here.

Pandemic is a bitch.

It's in Amd's self interest to get as many 6800 derivatives out as possible in customers' hands. They're probably feverishly working as hard as possible to do this. The pandemic and the insatiable demand for innovative tech is challenging.

Hardware Unboxed made a pretty good point during a recent video. This happens with every GPU launch on both sides. Where regular availability tends to be around the 2 month mark. Now you factor in the covid pandemic and manufacturing limits for this year and this all should have really been expected.

So how did 3 million consoles make it into customers hands..fairy dust maybe. Let's call it as it is. They.Have.No.Cards.to.Sell. Look at Scan and Overclockers in UK and a lot of European sites they are either de-listing the 6800's or just leaving them onsite with no information. Same goes for many sites in USA and Canada. There must be a lot of docks where these millions of cards are stuck  And obviously only those ships with AMD cards onboard have been affected is that right? The sites are also saying they have no shipping DATES not delivery dates ergo they've not even put them on a ship yet.

Look why can't people just accept this is the most botched launch ever and stop trying to defend the indefensible. AMD need to come out and admit they botched it badly and apologise and try to rectify the situation as fast as they can. Sorted but if they keep on lying well that's their problem. At the end of the day the truth is they didn't have the capacity to supply all the consoles and also their own Zen 3 and 6800 GPU within the launch window they gave themselves. That's inexcusable incompetence for a major company IMHO.

Because it's not. We have had worse launches than this and given everything else happening... it also should not be surprising.

hell less than a month after i bought my 1080 ti Strix they jumped from 779 to 1600 bucks and you couldn't buy a NV or AMD card for near a year at normal price but for lots of luck because of mining

and mining is back now it looks like

Trunks0 you're missing the point entirely. Frank Azore made a very public bet laughing at Nvidia's paper launch saying AMD would never do that and they would have more stock at launch of their reference cards. They didn't. He then said don't worry we've supplied 7x as many cards to the AIB's for launch on 25th. Don't forget AMD have spent a lot of marketing $ promoting not just the launch but also their own self declared declaration of being a major gaming brand in the PC market. "Power your gaming dreams with a 6800 RDNA2 graphics card from AMD"

And today there was even less stock and lots of retailers worldwide saying they aren't even bothering listing the cards as they don't have any confirmed shipping dates. If it looks like a turd, smells like a turd then it is a turd. You can polish it however you like but AMD's 6800 launch is a turd. Two months from now their market share will be <20%.

*shrug* and? That's marketing. Is this a good launch? Nope. Should anyone be surprised? Nope. Is this the worst ever? Nope. We will see where things are couple months from now.

Bill you bought a 1080ti. There are no 6800's for sale period. They are not out of stock retailers never actually received any stock at all ergo they do not exist in the retail channel. So where are all these mythical millions of GPU's NWR alludes to? Simple answer is they don't and never have existed. Vapour ware.

That's just factually incorrect. Stock was low, they where available and they sold out. You can see people on other forums who got them, retail. It happened.

Maybe it's just I remember the larger context here over time. Probably further re-enforced by this being normal in Canada. Common for us to not get stuff at the same time as the US launches. Even before AMD bought ATi, a Canadian company don't forget, we didn't get stuff at the same time.

If M$ are saying they won't have supply meeting demand for xbox's until their April to June quarter it won't probably look much different. Same goes for Sony. They'll both want to sell another 4 to 6 million before then so where does that leave AMD Zen 3 and 6800? M$ and Sony is solid money in the bank. AMD is a public limited company run for the benefit of it's shareholders and it's sole aim is to maximise profit. Same for every PLC. M$ and Sony will also have hefty penalty clauses in their contracts if AMD don't hit the numbers so AMD feel it financially. Miss their console targets and pay a penalty or produce more Zen 3 and 6800. Not a tough choice really. If you sell your soul to the devil there is a price to pay eventually either in the short, medium or long term or worst still all three

Yeah but it's not like nVidia has had a decent launch either. Where at what? Almost 3 months now for the 3000 series, and availability still sucks. It's the same set of problems. Not enough manufacturing space and getting stuff around right now is a nightmare.

you do understand that consoles started full ramp production in July/August and were stockpiling fully built units the entire time.

I'm talking UK that's where I live. Top five retailers have NO stock. Amazon UK NO stock. I'd love to know where people in the UK bought stock from.

To try and give some more context Scan UK received 14% of their PS5 pre orders on launch day. That means 86% of people who pre-ordered and paid up front for a PS5 in September did not receive their console. Scan currently has no shipping dates for those consoles and estimates it may be early 2021. OK in the global market Scan are miniscule but just imagine those numbers worldwide. Sony will be kicking down Lisa Su's doors demanding more consoles as per their contract so what do you think she'll do? Sorry Jim can't do that I need to sell some Radeon 6800's  One of my favourite AC/DC songs is money talks google it it's a great track.

TBH only decent things I've been able to buy lately are AC/DC's new Power Up album and Iron Maiden's new live album Night's of the Dead  Superb albums actually. Highly recommended if you're a metal fan.

I might have had too many Stellas tonight or your intellect is way above mine but I can't grasp your argument here. So you're saying AMD were providing SOC's to both M$ and Sony from July and they both offered pre-orders in September and two months later neither could fulfill their pre-orders and it's nothing do with AMD without whose SOC's the boxes are just..boxes. Am I missing something maybe a shortage of SSD's or cooling fans or boxes even. AMD didn't prioritise their own products so what's your point please.
