NEW DRIVERS 7.73 (6093) FOR ALL OS's

DVD, 2D & Descent 3D

DVD, 2D & Descent 3D

What about DVD, 2D picture and problems with sky in Descent 3D OpenGL? Any improvements here?

If I try to mix and match with 6071 Windows simply wont boot.
If I install them with the provided installer I can only see the "copying files" for 1 second and then it asks me to reboot. (I however checked the files and they seem to be properly installed.)

SoF2 performance went down by 30-50%.
CS performance stayed the same but now there seems to be "hiccups".

Guess I'll wait for Omega/Cyborg to release a new version. Right now I'm only playing Open GL games so there's no hurry for me to install these as the new OGL driver sunk my SOF2 performance in an instant.

You really should do the before and after tests with the same conditions. Its obvious that in your second test you've overclocked the video card, as fillrate, high polygon count, vertex shader, and point sprite scores increased even though they have almost nothing to do with drivers.

Heck, your multitexture fillrate in the second test is more than the card can even theoretically do at 275 MHz, and you're first test shows scores typical of 275 MHz cards.

I did my best to make people reading my post fully aware that my installation of XP is a couple of months old, and not exactly optimal for benching. I also had an old install of R3Dtweak lurking about that I can't seem to get rid of, and that MAY be skewing the results. Reguardless, I'm removing the original post and will endeavor not to share any findings again in the future.

[EDIT: Well, remember I said I had an old copy of r3dtweak that I can't seem to get rid of? Well I just checked the overclocker tab and:

Dammit, what a dope I am... here I thought they were wonder drivers. :( Sorry everyone who may have been mislead by my post.

What's really odd as I haven't ever overclocked this particular card that high before. Why upon installing the new drivers r3dtweak got the idea to overclock the core and ram to 290 I'll never know.

I guess I just found out my card will do 290/290 without any artifacts... not exactly how I wanted to find out though. ]

D3D and OpenGL tabs.

I haven't installed these yet, but I was thinking about these two missing tabs. I'm wondering if anyone can get them to appear if they change these registry keys:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop\{7E4F004A-C19A-48C2-A34D-70B22ED43C64}]
"D3D"=hex:01,00,00,00

AND:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ATI Technologies\Desktop\{7E4F004A-C19A-48C2-A34D-70B22ED43C64}]
"OpenGL"=hex:01,00,00,00

(The number bit in the parethesis brackets might be different).

*EDIT*

Oops... I just saw James' spiel on the front page, so it seems this method is irrelevent as the display properties files aren't there to begin with...
Just ignore me... I'll go away now :hmm:

No change in fps for Quake3.

no weird stuff, have all the the taps in display properties. update driver via device manager w/out uninstalling old drivers.

cheers
;)

i can confirm increase in 3d mark (aroud 200 points, but noticed lower LOD in car chase test), unreal tournament (ogl, ~5-6 FPS), and humus game engine demo - 2x quality smooothvision results minimal FPS loss. yet, 2xSV rezults in b0rked screen, when i exit it (only humus demo 2xQSV, haven't noticed it elsewhere). still b0rked: farbrausch mark&sweep 64k demo. any curved surfaces grind 8500 to 1 FPS (works flawlessly on rage 128 pro?!?!).
Fablemark is still flashing. b0rk b0rk b0rk.
all in all, there are improvements over 6071 so i think i'll keep them.

/me confused....

If these are core drivers only, doesn't this mean that all the extra features are disabled by default (TruForm, A.Filtering etc)? Thus making the scores higher since the card actually does less with all the features off?

Very nice :)

Getting a new hard drive today so i can do a clean install of them and see what happens :)

How long before they go Offical ? any one want to guess

Thanks

Mix it with 6071 and everything is OK

Mix it with 6071 and everything is OK

Hi, I just get this driver and mix it with 6071(original), and get everything works flawlessly.

0. Get 6071 and uncompress it with WinRAR.
1. Download the 6093 driver, uncompress it, and goto BX_03929 directory. Copy all the contents to corresponding folders in 6071(Atidrive, in my case), override all the files.
2. Goto ATIINF directory, open CX_03947.inf, copy the [Version]
section. Again, goto 6071\Atidrive, open atiixpag.inf, replace the corresponding section.
3. Clean the previous driver, then use the setup.exe in 6071 to install the new driver.

After this, you should get all the tables and Radeonator detects the new driver as well.

My system:
Athlon 1.33G+EPoX 8KTA3+768M SDRAM+Windows XP Prof.+Radeon 7200.

Some of the registry values that might be disabled will INCREASE performance. Not all features decrease performance.

Let Omega get ahold of these and by tomorrow or the next day we will all have a superior set of drivers. There still isn't the fabled 30% increase that was being spewed but then again this didn't fix the gamma either...hmmmm

The gamma IS fixed.

I always upgrade first, to test it.

I run XP Pro, retail 8500 64mb.

I had the omega plutoniums installed and just upgraded to the 6093's

checking over the INF's seeing if maybe it has some weird setting for the panels or something

Quick question...
I'm using Win ME...how did you get the files in an uncompressed form to update? What I did was run the root directory "Setup.exe" which worked, but which was disasterous in recognizing all my added hardware on reboot.

I know Win 2000 is supposed to have a .??_ file expander, and I found "expand.exe" to run...but...as per usual outstanding M$ quality...it will only work on one file at a time...

I also know that I can use WinZip, but I don't know how to batch expand all the files (Yes, I have the command line support add-on, but it only seems to support .zip files, not all the other things winzip handles) since I'm not prepared to expand all the files one at a time.

Obviously the setup program expands them, but that installation made such a mess of the system, I'm not prepared to experiment further with trying to interrupt the installation if someone could give me a more practical procedure.

Could someone please fix a downloadable version of the new drivers, combined with the 6071s. I'm such a loser in driver minxing...

I use WinRar (http://www.rarsoft.com), it will extract most files like that. :)

I just went to device manager -> display adapters -> radeon 8500 -> update driver -> install from specific location -> don't search i will choose the driver to install -> then pointed to the 6093 inf directory

Everything seems to be working fine. It says 6093 in the ati control panel and device manager.

The 64k Produkt demo works perfectly for me. Runs very smooth, exept 2 parts of the demo. The small room with the various looking blobs(right after the castle), and one of the long cylinder kinda things. This part: http://www.koti.reimari.net/kotikari/PIILO/produkt_low.jpg

I gained about a 100points in glexcess, I also lost the tweaking tabs.

And, anybody know how to get arid of a rage3d tweaker install gone bad? and occasionaly if I'm in the display properties, I get an error message saying that desk.cpl crashed or something? :(

I tried Morrowind with these, and it seemed to be a touch faster. It's hard to tell with this game, though. I find if I quicksave at any point and then reload I get instantly better performance. But I had kept a few saves at certain points and noted the FPS, and this driver is maybe a couple of FPS better than before.

The fogging was messed up for me though, objects were being fogged randomly when they were close to me. Disabling 'Table Fog' in the registry cured this.

I'm not sure about the general image quality with this new driver. Colours seem a little duller, there's maybe a little less contrast... but it's hard to be sure when comparing under different lighting conditions. Maybe fixing the 'gamma ramp' took away the high contrast I've always noticed with the Radeon.
