Navi 7nm GPUs/Ryzen 3 announcments at Computex 2019?

:(

doesn't look like I will be getting a AMD gpu anytime soon

wish NV would pull it's head out and support freesync over HDMI

I’m very skeptical. Vega gets transitioned to 7nm from a larger process with mixed results and then another architecture also based on GCN but designed with 7nm in mind comes along and performs significantly worse? Yeah that sounds like BS to me

It could be that Navi can't hit Vega's clocks but gets more done clock for clock. Remember with Vega they tried to make GCN scale to higher clocks and it didn't really work out that well. Maybe they pulled the plug on that approach after it proved to be a bust with Vega? I think to hit higher clocks they need an entirely new architecture. And unfortunately, AMD's clock speed deficit is largely why Nvidia GPUs are currently in the lead.

I don't know what to make of the power and thermals rumors. I find it sort of hard to believe the situation could be that bad, but then again with RTG's recent track record...

Just look at the Radeon VII. This was a failed Instinct card that would never have seen the light of day if the Turing cards hadn't been so expensive. Remember Instinct was AMD's first 7nm card so was built for that node. To make it viable Radeon VII had to up the frequency to the detriment of power and thermals and they ended up with a hairdryer that could compete with a 2080 on performance.

I should know I ordered one on day one but was able to cancel. So I'm not surprised with the Navi rumours that it can't reach acceptable clocks at it's rated TDP. Unfortunately it's 2019 and GCN is now a bust and until they move away from it, AKA next gen, nothing will change.

16 is just about as confirmed as can be. But latest from adored shows AMD has IP that is very interesting. AMD has a patent to stack HBM on a standard chip. Like the IO die. Doesnt mean first gen multi chip module will have it but it would be awesome if it did.

From about the 18min 30 sec mark.

Yep...AMD officially confirms Navi and Ryzen 3rd Gen will be available in Q3. I expect 3rd gen Ryzen to **** on Intel but the GPU side of things I'm not sure what to expect yet. Hopefully it catches up to the point it'll be a worth while purchase over NV.

For gaming I'm not so sure 3rd gen Ryzen will shiit on intel. Probably on par, but I hope to be proven wrong.

It will be interesting to see what kind of latency penalty AMD suffers from the chiplet design given how poorly Threadripper performs in games.

Not according to the thread title.

Fair enough just read the thread title  Can't say I'm over excited with either Zen 2 or Navi TBH. Heatsink fan on the chipset WTF AMD. Navi is still GCN which is a bust so they need to find a new Arc which hopefully comes with 'next gen' card. Here's hoping.

NAVI no, Zen 2 hell yes, what’s the big deal with a fan? I just want to know if it craps all over intel with no VD attached. Still say you should have waited.

I use custom water, so I'm curious to see what these mono blocks are going to look like for these boards.

I'm ready! Zen 2 needs to come NOW!

you are in every zen 2 thread trying to justify your impatience

…….
Rumor is that the fan exists for RAID configurations using the two NVME slots, but that is not confirmed yet

https://www.tomshardware.com/news/amd-x570-ryzen-3000-motherboard-msi-asus-colorful,39370.html

since I can't see paying extra for m2's over sata SSD's or run raid's anymore and you can from what I read turn the fan off if not needed it is a non issue

and if needed EK will make a block or asus may have a water cooled option like my old Maximus Formula had

………

to bad they don't release the MB's now since they are backwards compatible

FYI I'm not trying to justify anything about my purchase. I am 100% happy with my new Ryzen 2700 and for the price I paid I think it's a steal. Unlike my 7700K I'm not on a dead platform so I can still upgrade to Zen 2 in the future as my Asus bios is already available. If Zen 2 doesn't turn out to be a great upgrade then hopefully Zen 3 will come out on the AM4 platform and I can upgrade to that. The way I see it is it's just win-win for me.

My bottleneck is the GPU and I'm not willing to spend £1,000 to improve that position. Unlike you Bill who whinged like there was no tomorrow about Nvidia fleecing everyone with their insane prices only to go and buy one and then try to justify it by saying you got a compensation payment so the cost was't an issue. What you fail to comprehend and lots of people pointed it out to you, is don't slag something off for being expensive and then buy it anyway. It's called hypocritical.

I was on a site last week (can't remember which one unfortunately) that was trying to temper the hype around Ryzen 2 and saying it expected the IPC gains to be between 5-10% not the 25% being touted. The 25% was in a specific business application and not gaming but people's expectation levels went up a few notches. TBH I don't think many people who own a Zen+ 2xxx will need to upgrade to a Zen 2 but if they own a 1xxx Ryzen I'm sure it will be a worthwhile upgrade. Just my 2c's

most of the leaks I have seen say 15% IPC

but faster clocks

i'm sure the 12 core will be a nice upgrade from my 1800x

and the 1800x is going out in the shed for a bike trainer

and I can bitch about price all I want and still buy it

It's called being 60 and single with no rugrats i'm not going to leave anything for anybody :p :p :p
