Civilization VI

Starting to get the idea that Dave isn't as excited about this release as me.

Was going to play some last night but work kicked my ass yesterdsy. Working till lunch today then.....

well, i didnt like it in single player. maybe thats not what its meant for. oh well. too long to wait between turns. is the AI really that good?.
Meh . looks like a digital version of some toy game

What is this horseshit!!!!

https://www.reddit.com/r/civ/comments/58lozn/no_more_teams/

Apparently you can't create teams in multiplayer? Can only play against each other? I am definitely not buying this game now.

Whelp, that cancels me buying it then (unless it drops below $10). Unless of course they add it in the near future.

Then again, you could always just not attack your buddies until the AI's are dead. Can't you create diplomacy pacts with them too?

You can create diplomacy pacts, but yeah still at least should have the option rather than removing options.

I feel they've done very good in some area's and gone backwards in others.

I really don't like how Builders aka workers only do 3 tiles and then dissapear, the only upside is they build **** in 1 turn, and because there's not 500 workers turns load quicker.

HOWEVEr is there still going to be roads built? Not got that far yet.

Ok I may still get it as long as you can still create pacts and alliances through diplomacy. I'm not going to pay $50-$60 for it though, I'll wait until it drops below $35.

That actually makes more sense. Instead of starting the game with predefined teams, just use in-game diplomacy "feature" to establish who's allied with who.

Traders make roads, the more they trade to a location gradually roads appear.

Liking this game so far

OK so if you create diplomacy pacts - can you win under any victory condition with the player you are allied with? Space Victory, Culture vic?

I'm going to regret this...Leap of faith - bought the game...

I've played about five hourse so far, and.....

Hmmmmm.

Things are different enough from Civ 5 to require a little adjustment. I miss all the mods I always play with, so I was struck at first by what are limited game setup options, although Civ 5 was the same way IIRC.

Have not seen anything that I just absolutely love, though, and I am struck with how "cartoon-ish" a lot of the elements are, especially the appearance of the civ leaders. Sort of feels like a step back, like this is "Civ Junior" None of the youtube videos I watched conveyed how much of an effect this is, YMMV.

AI seems to be about as irrational as ever. Playing as Teddy Roosevelt on a Huge Continents map, was at war with Germany, and was on the verge of losing a city when he just up and pulls back. I first thought maybe it was Cleopatra attacking from his other side, but then three turns later he's back at it. That went on for about fifteen turns, and it enabled me to fight it out and get equal-terms peace treaty.

Interaction with city-states is remarkably different, I think I am going to like it in that regard. One thing that has always annoyed me in Civ5 is the constant requests by one on them to wipe another of them. That makes me thing about the absurd "warmongering" penalty, which I hope has gone away this time.

It's not "love at first sight", but when Civ 5 first came out I couldn't figure out why anyone would want to play it instead of Civ4, so we'll see.

Just finished a game as Russia, culture victory. God damn, their faith bonus is insane. I almost won a Religous Victory.

The AI...I could not keep them happy, they were always pissed at me for some reason or another. America conquered a city state (Bush is that you?), I declared war to liberate the city state...Did that...may have also taken Washington as well :bleh:

City development sure is interesting. It forces you towards mid-late game to really decide what each city is going to be focused on. Loving the new natural wonders - ran into Yosemite and Galapago's Islands.

The music is fantastic

I am going to miss playing as Spain and finding that natural wonder near my cap in Civ 5 though.

Not having to build roads anymore is amazing, they are built automatically by the trade-caravans. no longer need roads connecting your cities.

I really like the new design for workers/builders. They have "charges" now. Each charge will build one improvement. Improvements only take 1 turn to build.

Not having to be on the coast to build a navy is AMAZING!

Lastly: I approve of Sean Bean voice acting. Not quite Leonard Nemoy level, but I approve.

Yes, love those also... and roads don't seem to require maintenance? Also really liking the new Government/Civics option. It lets you "develop" over time and pivot if you suddenly find yourself in a war or something. Didn't experiment with reverting to an old style of government... seems like it's strongly discouraged. "Go back to a Monarchy? Are you mad??"

I'm liking adjacency bonuses, etc. Don't think I've quite got a grips on certain things... no obvious "religious pressure" so far (but only 920 AD), though the religious perks imply that it's there. STILL not sure what Amenities are/do. I guess it's "happiness" and Amenities listed on the city is happiness-sadness? (ie. +1 happiness.)

I seem to be having a harder time growing my cities than in Civ V... it's probably the limited Builders. Need to get over it and start churning them out and developing land.

Barbarians seem to be everywhere. They keep popping back up. As Egypt I'm just flowing with cash (and have city-states pushing money my way instead of needing to pay them to keep on your good side as in the past). The Vikings keep telling me how nice it must be for me to have such a deep treasury... Has meant that I've been devoting more money and production than usual into defense to keep them from wanting to attack (and when Pedro of Brazil did I squashed him, and he asked for a peace treaty not long after.)

I'm thinking that my choices have made religious and science victories not within reach. Might have to start getting aggressive.

All in all, I'm liking most of the changes. I like the new styling and GUI. The "here there be dragons" fog of war map is awesome.

Your cities have growth caps, you cant grow more pop than you have housing units. So if your cities isnt growing fast, it meanss you have come close to your cap, and if its not growing at all, you neeed more housing.

OK, I am a doofus. How is this done? I haven't gotten any options to build any naval units; my city is near the coast but the "harbor district" option is greyed out.

What am I missing?

Tiles now have "appeal" ratings. From 1 to 6. Level 6 tiles will give more citizens when building neighborhoods. Tiles on the coast, near natural wonders seem to score high, tiles near industry centers or mines not so much.

I *think* its the shipyard. See pic:

The AI is very annoying when it comes to diplomacy. England declared war on me and in the process lost a major city of theirs. We made peace shortly after that, but they now consider me war mongerers (as does the rest of the AI). I hadn't gone to war before England decided to commit suicide. There is no logic to the AI's actions. It's currently 1850 AD and some of them are still roaming around with archers....
