Civilization VI

Just pre-loaded :)

Interested to see what has changed, other than the multi-tiled cities feature I don't know as it will be a HUGE leap the way Civ 5 was from Civ 4. About to pee my pants anyway, the Civ series is, IMHO, the best game series of all time.

There is an older thread here about the announcement, but rather than necro it I figured I'd make an actual "game" thread now that it's there. Can't wait until Friday!

as a lifelong civ player from civ I on, i will have to play this, so **** it, i might as well pre-purchase.

i didn't think civ 5 was that great. i think civs 2 & 4 were the most enjoyable at the time.

Played Civ1 to hell,
Played Civ2 and 3 to hell and back
played Civ4 like a normal person
Bought Civ5 on release, never played.
Civ 6 = ?

Other than Civ4 bough on release & never played I've got the same list. 1, 2 & 3 probably have 5k hours in total for me.

Only MoO has more hours for me ... and Wizadry has to be close.

I think if I hadn't just recently bought a PS4 and I'm now working through the exclusives and I have a PS VR on the way, I might be more excited. I have over 1,300 hours of Civ V play time, so you could say I am a Civ Fanatic. However...The graphics look like **** compared to Civ V and from what I am hearing the AI is no better in this game. Civ 5 came out in 2010. No improvement in AI and the graphics are worse? Please. It's not helping that Beyond Earth was absolutely ****.

I've played Civ for a long time and love it.

That being said, I have gotten burned on a number of games and I am not prepurchasing.

I'll wait for reviews. May even wait for a x-mas sale too.

Crazy, I know. But $60 is $60... And I really don't want to get burned again.

Love these games. Will probably buy it. But not pre-ordering or buying day one. Been burned too many times at this point. I'll wait a few weeks.

+1

and i really loved the civ but i had so much more fun with endless legend

+2
Endless feels so much more complete yet it allows you to play in different ways (customizing everything and micro managing a lot, or not!).

But let's see, if the CIV AI is much better it might be interesting.

Civilization 6: The most in-depth Civ to date

After 15 hours and several hundred turns, Civ VI is clearly something special.

...

New to both trees is the excellent Eureka! system, which essentially gives you small quest objectives to complete in order to boost the research of every technological advancement. I made it a priority to discover the ocean in my first game, and when I did so I suddenly boosted my sailing research, halving the turns it would normally take to complete. The same goes for every single research project in Civ VI. Kill a barbarian and you research weaponry faster; discover another civilisation and you spend half the time researching writing; find a Pantheon and you research the mysticism civic faster.

If I had to describe what defines this interpretation of the Civ concept in a single statement, I would focus on the stronger emphasis on exploiting resources for short-term benefits
...
The new approach to cities succeeds so handsomely because it makes every single decision meaningful. If you’ve played any Civ game before, you’ll have ended up filling all of your cities with every available building at some point because…why not? Here, the ‘why not’ is written in the land: there simply isn’t enough space to have meaningful versions of every district in every city, and while you might build a few jack-of-all-trades settlements, it’s the specialised cities that make the most impact.
...
Rather than being created out of thin air whenever a civ reaches a milestone, Great People now exist in the world and must be attracted to work their magic in your nation before another leader gobbles them up. You can see who’s out there, waiting to be recruited, by clicking on a dedicated Great People tab. Shakespeare might be looking for a patron if you click that tab later in the game.
...
Almost every addition and change that has been made works to the player’s benefit. The splitting of tech into two separate trees means you’ll be making decisions much more often, and the cards that unlock and are used to build and alter your government are always there to play with. City States, the minor nations introduced in Civ V, require much less attention than previously. This is a game that respects your time, not just happy to have you take one more turn but eager to make that turn as meaningful and memorable as possible.

Maybe they borrowed a bunch of ideas from Endless Legend. *shrug* have never played EL so I couldn't say. :) Definitely some changes though, so it's a different game from Civ V even if the base grid, etc, is the same. Either way, they're bundling up a lot of features they used to deal with in expansions, so in terms of value for a Civ game it looks hard to beat.

Damn, looks like I need to buy this game... Half my crew has bought BF1, the other half CIV VI :(

Just spent $114 on BF1... I don't regret it (I'll get hundreds of hours out of it), but now Titanfall 2 is DEFINITELY going on the backburner for the forseeable future.

Why are 3 big games I'm interested in coming out at the same time!

I'm not sure I want the AI to change at this point, I think after six years I am sort of starting to understand how it cheats, oops....how it thinks.

I thought BE was abysmal but I have hope for this, the main franchise installment. Wait, what am I talking about? I pre-ordered this, that guarantees it will be total crap :bleh:

Nah, I am still super excited about this. :D
