I must say that I just purchased the Xig drivers from www.xig.com and I am totally amazed! If you want, go get the demo version and try them out. I am talking "all" opengl games that have binaries available absolutely fly! The quality of all Q3 based games are just as good as windows and faster. UT based games have some shader issues it appears.

Go try them out!

Those drivers don't support any of the ATI extensions though (they have a VERY basic feature set).

IMO that is stupid to pay for drivers.
Linux is a free OS and the drivers should be as well.

With a fresh install of RH 7.3 the RPM installed flawlessy and everything went smoothly. Only game I tested was Tux Racer and it ran like butta :D

I'm still trying to get Half-Life to work with wine using these drivers, however. First of all HL wants 16-bit color and the FireGL driver doesn't support it. As I saw on another forum I used "wine -winver win98 -- hl.exe -- hl.exe -- console" and that got me into the game, but it locks up when I try to view the OpenGL video modes. Any idea why?

Also, the half-life window is only about a quarter of the screen, what is the trick to getting it fullscreen?

Here's the command line I use
wine -winver win98 hl.exe -- hl.exe -bpp32 -gl -gldrv Default -w 800 -full -noipx -nojoy -numericping -console . This should do it. If it doesn't go you might not have wine with opengl support or the fgl drivers don't cooperate with wine. To resize hit ctrl + alt , use the number key pad + - to to resize the screen. Btw winex the pay version of wine will lock your screen and even put menu entries . You can also add -game whatever, in there to load mods.

First of all hardware support is awful, fonts incredible awful.
Windows XP is much stable and faster than any linux distribution. I'm runniing redhat 7.3 on my other machine, general OS is slower than previous installed windows XP and crashes. Boot speed also slower.
Also Linux is really unfunkcional. Damn to many **** programs for the same thing.
Well people will say the linux is more secured than windows XP, not true full of bugs. The only reason why is linux more secured than windows platform (2000, XP) is simply because not many paople know about linux.
Going to linux is going 10 years in past...
And Microsoft is the best what could happened for PC industry.
We wouldn't play Doom III without Microsoft, like it or not.
Directx 9.0 etc....
So, i don't know why they sue microsoft for some kinda monopoly, i don't give a **** about netscape or anything also what supposed to replace built in windows programs.
They are shitty dump asses who don't know to make something like windows and than complains about some kinda monopoly.
Well, I will install portions of SP1, skip that part which supposed to open doors for netscape etc..

#1 XP is in no way more stable than any linux distros.
#2 XP is not in no way faster than most linux distros.
#3 XP does not boot fasrer, take my box (umm 3 to 7 seconds after i leave bios) Booom I am there!

#4 we would play Doom III without Microshaft, they would have coded it in GL, and i don't like it, but i still can play Doom III faster in linux than in windows.

if you don't know why they are a monopoly then i don't think you should even open your mouth about xp being better than linux cus you just don't know.

Fonts! haha I am in linux right now, and i have AA fonts all over the place and they look great!

YOu are right not that many ppl know about linux even your self, linux is more secure because of the user systems that are set up, *if* and only if, lets say somebody makes a program that is to delete everthing on the HD of a linux box, IT wont get past the user that run the programs home DIR and most likely error befor that even ahppens.

shiity dumb asses ? wtf you talking about without linux *nix you most likey would have not even goten to this web page.

replace windows built in programs ? wtf you talking about again, most of windows built in programs are taken from what first apeared on a NON MS os.

oh back to gaming, Unix was made at first to play a game, and it played the game better on a POS box than anyother OS could at the time on a box that was 10 times better.

I think your problem is you like ppl telling you what to do , i guess there are just too many options on linux for you.

if Linux crashes then you are a dolt.

screw linux. if you are gonna run a free *NIX, run one of the BSD's. otherwise, you might as well be sticking with Windows.

bsd's are great, but have you tyre gentoo ? has a nice port system
called porgate

RTCW with 1fps :P

RTCW with 1fps :P

Why when I play RTCW i have only 1-5 FPS ?
1024x768 32b 32b uncompressed textures , all details - max

Yes : do not use the max details for general textures : high, not "extra". I had the same problem.

Performance....

Performance....

Hi, i was justb wondering... wath performance have this drivers? i mean in glxgears i have around 2500 fps
12447 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2489.400 FPS
12463 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2492.600 FPS
12474 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2494.800 FPS
12471 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2494.200 FPS
12472 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2494.400 FPS
i think thats a good mark, dunno, does anybody tried some games as Counter-.Strike, RTCW, UT, etc... how many fps you got¿? i just curious.. :)

Not at all, sorry. ATi drivers are released as binaries only... It is a shame they do not enable pixel shaders when nvidia's does.

Actually, they do. The drivers expose the GL_ATI_fragment_shader extension.

That is great an all, but someone has to get paid and I "do not" mind supporting the linux community. That is how I look at it, SUPPORT. And linux is not really free...yes you can download versions of your favorite distro, but to get all each distro offers you need to purchase a retail version and support the team.

Just my thoughts...;)

It is funny how people complain about linux and have not really attempted to use it...correctly. No, it is "NOT" windows!
