14.9 WHQL Win 7/8 out; a step in the right direction?

Guess you missed the post where he detailed the issues he had with older games while having cfx enabled.

He does not only play new titles.

Maybe i did, i didn't read all the threads replies, but i'm also on a crossfire system, a HD5770 crossfire system to be exact and i have no serious problems with old games at least i don't detect any, if he as them that is bad indeed but then he should be happy AMD is taking time to support "old" games if that is the case. :)

The problem is dx9 games have various issues on 290/290x systems as reported by a lot of users. So as a company do you fix the dx9 issue which helps a lot of people and effects a wide range of games or do you go chasing 3 more fps in a select few titles that aren't broken and people have already played? My point was they chose to fix those titles because those are the games that reviewers use for benches. So instead of fixing broken crap they went for something that helps marketing instead. Didn't think my point was that hard to understand. Crysis 3 and tomb raider and bioshock did not have performance issues to begin with.

Another thing, were you planning on playing any of those games again but waiting for 3 more fps in order to do so? I doubt it.

I can understand your frustration. Thing is Amd isn't alone here. Nvidia also does this as do every other software/hardware company I can think of that rely heavily on benchmarks in reviews.

Computer #1 has amdmantle64.dll faulting and that's causing CCC to crash. Back to 14.7rc3 and all is well.
No issues on Computer #2 with 14.9

Seems those of us without mantle capable vidcards are getting this error. Apparently renaming amdmantle64.dll to something else alleviates the issue.

AMD are working on games that don't work. AMD do not work on everything at once, there are priorities to balance vs. available resources. That's why Gaming Evolved exists, to improve the quality of the experience for users as early as possible. All companies prioritize, and all get criticized for the decisions they make. AMD are listening to feedback (see the report form, the video) to listen better and continue to improve.

I know that doesn't fix your issue or make you less mad, sorry.

It looks like AMD are pulling the latest 14.9 release as they are aware of some bugs that are causing major issues. At least they are admitting it and trying to rectify it.

My only query is now they don't do monthly updates anymore why can't they wait till they fully test drivers before releasing. Would certainly save all this bad PR.

Not forgetting that AMD laid off a lot of the old ATI engineers and I said at the time this could be something that could come back and haunt them.

Seems I'm in the minority, no issues here.
I've found these drivers to be great even in video playback on the web Comcast,Netfix,Amazon all smooth. For the 1st time in a long time I'm able to enable all the Options in the Video section of the CCC. AMD steady video and even under global, checking the box to Apply current settings to Internet Video works without issue.

No setback running FAH. I haven't fired up any 3D games yet.

still there :hmm:

Im getting **** video playback. For some reason leaving the ccc open made the videos I was watching play smoothly? How the **** that works is beyond me? Does anyone know a stable good driver I can use?

release notes mention:

New user controls for video color and display settings

am I dense? I'm not seeing anything new in ccc

Wolfenstein and borderlands 2 don't work at all with the 14.9 drivers, but did with the previous betas and 14.4 driver set, and when I mean don't work I mean completely lock up the system and forcing a hard reset.

I expect issues with drivers with new games and applications, but getting problems like these where old drivers, non WHQL certified in some cases, worked with the games and the latest official ones lock the system up completely is somewhat worrying.

Can they work on their website too? If I manually identify my card using their drop down menus, it still brings people to 14.4.

Omg today i noticed with msi afterburner 99%bug on my second gpu with 14.9 driver lool. This was fixed some time ago.

Runing 7950 crossfire it works ok gpu1 and gpu2 load is identical then monitor sleeps from wakeup second gpu in games is all the time 99%.

People say this bug has something to do with ULPS.
For fixing it i have to disable and again enable the crossfire in ccc. The story repeats after monitor sleeps.

hello, I have a computer with (A88X-G45 MSI AMD A10-7850K, IGP, AMD RADEON 2133 R9 2x4GB Ram (R938G2130U1K), 1TB SSHD, 8.1pro Win x64) but I have a problem, I install the catalyst driver 14.9 and 14.9.1 beta and none of them allows me to connect my pc to tv via HDMI, just give me the signal via VGA port. you have your PC connected to a TV via HDMI ??

I cannot turn off my Seiki 47 inch LED HDTV connected via HDMI. If I try, it gets turned back on to the No Signal state. After a while, it will attempt to turn itself off and then only come back up to the No Signal state on its own. Only way to turn it off and keep it off is to unplug it...either at the wall or from the HDMI port.

Using WHQL 14.9. (Problem has existed in previous drivers, too.

Report submitted.
