Windows 10 Fall Creators Update

Looks like there was not much perf improvement aside some cpu utilization in some cases going down just MS fixing a bug that previously dropped performance...

Apparently the games get a higher priority which improves smoothness/performance. I wonder if this is the same as setting a game process with a higher priority in the process queue.

To those who still have micro stuttering in windows 10 this tweak fixed all of it

Hey guys,

Here is my permanent solution/set it and forget it workaround for the creators memory issues (particularly with Frostbite games).

1. Download EmptyStandbyList and put it somewhere where you won't move it https://wj32.org/wp/software/empty-standby-list/

2. Right click > Properties and select Run as Admin under compatibility.
3. Open Task Scheduler > Create Task on the far right
4. General Tab (give it a name). Under security options > Change user or group > Advanced > Find Now > go down and choose SYSTEM (important to make it run silently in the background). Tick 'Run with highest privileges' and 'Hidden' at the bottom. Pictures here https://stackoverflow.com/questions...ndows-scheduled-task-to-run-in-the-background

5. Triggers tab > New > On a schedule > One Time. Tick repeat task every 5 minutes (possibly excessive but it causes no issues).
6. Actions tab > Start A program > Point to the EmptyStandbyList.exe file.
7. Done! Standby memory is automatically cleared every 5mins and BF1 especially will run smooth for hours!

Looks like I am not alone with my Forza issues after this 1709 update. I checked out the Forza forums and it seems to be well documented over there with numerous complaints about Forza crashing immediately after launch, and having to reinstall just to play, only to have the issue return shortly after.

As of right now there is no permanent fix other than reverting to 1703. Hopefully someone at Microsoft or Turn10 are working on the solution...

as per usual MS re-enables fast boot with this update, so it takes 5minutes to boot and screws **** up in its usual retarded fashion...disabling fastboot get booting in under a minute withoout issues....

I dual boot with Linux Mint, and noticed that when I shutdown Windows (as opposed to restarting without powering off) my NTFS drives are marked as dirty and won't mount in Linux. I hadn't thought about fast boot, maybe that's what is the cause.

Worth trying , but I think I used to get the same on another system that dual boots windows 10 (fast boot disabled) and mint...

I'm not seeing any weird issues at all here since installed 1709 for weeks. But I like to see edge needs to improving more though. And game mode is just a gimmicky....I turned it off. :bleh:

One last issue, I removed the USB cable to my UPS Windows reported that my battery was low on each reboot then after 10 seconds or so it went to 100% full power. Its a desktop so that is a bit weird.

I realize this probably would've been a little more helpful a few weeks ago, but if the UPS was plugged into a USB3.0 port, try plugging it into a 2.0 port if you've got one available. I had the same thing with 1709, and it looks like for whatever reason that using the 3.0 port was the culprit.

My new board has almost no 2.0 ports (just two at the top for KB/M, and a single connector on the board that's occupied by the USB cable for the H115i), so I was using USB3.0 to connect the UPS. Found something online that suggested changing ports, so I tried swapping the mouse and the UPS. So far it seems to have solved the problem, though I have no idea why Win10 in general seems to have gone full-retard when it comes to a battery backup on a desktop.

HTH.

I am hating these big win 10 updates.. every time I get them they screw something up on my PC. I have had to reinstall Win 10 3x because of updates or installing a program that literally broke the OS.

With this fall update I haven't noticed anything to bad except for Nvidia control panels color over ride is not working on everything. It works on the desktop but even using a browser the color enhancement is not working. Its strange.

Win 10 fall update also destroyed my pictures folder but removing it and adding only the cloud folder in which created a bunch of issues for my video editing software. I fixed it but.. still annoying. I am done with One Drive now.

Installed the latest Win10 update (16299.64). Still having CTD issues with Forza Horizon 3 and Forza Motorsport 7 (for some reason Forza Motorsport 6 continues to work). Still needing to either reinstall the game or DLC's or Forza Hub in order to play the games again.

I also tried moving Forza 7 to my SSD and it didn't help (other than faster load times for all those huge 4K textures).

Thanks a lot for the tip I don't think I have a rear usb 2.0 port on the back panel but I will check, I also have a corsair water cooler that plugs into a usb 2.0 port on the motherboard did you end up with a failed USB device in device manager. I have one showing up but everything works including my corsair link software. I am pretty sure the corsair WC is connected to the failed usb port but its difficult to tell. I had two when I first upgraded but when I disconnected my UPS one of them disappeared. Thanks again for the help.

Yeah, this was my first time using an AIO and I got the failed USB thingy in device manager, too. Just so happens there was an update to LINK late last month (v4.9.1.23) that fixed an issue with the USB driver not loading because it wasn't signed properly or something. On mine, Windows would just block the USB driver from loading, so LINK wouldn't even populate most of the time. (There's actually been another update since that one, but I haven't updated yet.)

The deal with the UPS seems to have been the only negative I've run into with using all USB3.0 ports, but it's one that's really, really annoying. I just wish they didn't skimp on the 2.0 expansion ports on newer boards like mine, especially when they know 90% of users are going to use the only one they get for the USB cable on the AIO cooler. I have a perfectly good rear bracket that I could easily use if I just had free ports to plug it into.

BTW, I think Windows will still show that the battery is dead/not charging when you first boot up even when it's connected via USB2.0. It just doesn't nag you with that big banner in the middle of your screen like it does when it's connected to USB3.0. But I have the icon disabled in the system tray anyway, so I never see it if it still does that.

Seems to have fixed the issue. Since I've disabled fast boot, I've had no problems with mounting the drives in Linux.

So I think it's safe to declare you a hero.

I am hating these big win 10 updates.. every time I get them they screw something up on my PC. I have had to reinstall Win 10 3x because of updates or installing a program that literally broke the OS.
The last two have been okay for me. The Anniversary update caused my PC to BSOD instantly. I had to dual-boot into Linux Mint, and rename a bunch of driver files to figure out the culprit. Luckily it was a driver that started with the letter 'A' so it was one of the first ones I tried.

The constant, unreliable updates and random settings changes really pushed me into moving over to Linux.

Guess I've been lucky. No BSODs or any other issues with the major updates, so far at least.

I disable one drive asap after a new setup.

But..all major updates installed and zero issues on my new laptop - 4k screen, 8th gen i7.

Windows has gone from being my least favorite operating system to my daily driver now. I'm even using Windows hello, ink and Cortana and am thoroughly impressed with the changes and how far it's come.

I reinstalled windows 10 fall update because it messed up my administrative rights. But must admit my pc now is the best it's ever been, games are noticeably faster and the graphics in games seem better even the sound is beefier lol sounds like an exaggeration but it really isn't.
