Baldurs gate III

Looks like DOS 3 with Dragon Age inspirations. Don't know why they are calling it Baldur's Gate 3. It has nothing in common with it. It's in the Forgotten Realms and will no doubt feature the city of Baldur's Gate but the similarities end there. I think they should have called it Baldur's Gate with some sort of subtitle rather than BG3 if they were determined to use the forgotten realms and 5E. Personally, I'm not interested in it but the CGI is tip top notch and the graphics are pretty. DOS fans will love it. I think the Baldur's Gate community will be divided on it.

It doesnt have anything in common with bg2, but it takes place directly after one of the pnp campaign modules, so i guess they just went with 3. Also wizards is involved so i doubt larian got to choose the name.

From what I've been reading, this is Baldurs Gate in name only as it appears to have almost nothing to do with the BG storyline or universe. It's closer to dragon age than anything else from what we've seen and heard so far.

So if you liked dragon age, this could be a good one for you.

If you are looking for a more actual Baldurs Gate game, this may be disappointing.

from what ive read its set in the forgotten realms, 100 years after the events of bg2 and the illithids are the bad guys. Sure sounds like forgotten realms universe to me. The avatar trilogy was(which bg2 was based on) was settled decades ago

If it's 100 years later, how could Minsc and Boo appear (larian CEO claims they are alive)? Minsc was human so he'd be long since dead.

ya that makes no sense to me either but its d&d so anything is possible. From that i understand 5th edition didnt rewrite the forgotten realms lore so im not sure how you viably shoe horn in an illithid invasion into the immediate aftermath of bg2. They picked a bad character from bg2, minsc sucked. Korgan was the the best of the companions

I think in terms of lore, Minsc is petrified with boo and they are freed from it at a later time which explains how he survived. Some of the other companions could possibly be alive due to how long elves live ect.

This game has a different story with different protagonist. It's got a different art style, different point of view, different gameplay, and smaller party with different rules. I'm all for improvement and change but this has nothing in common with what people associate with Baldur's Gate.

POE ditched the D&D rules and did it's own thing but it kept the RTWP gameplay and isometric view as an "inspired by BG" type of game. It had a lot more in common with Baldur's Gate than this ever will. I'm not disappointed because I knew it was going to be like this because that's how modern AAA works but it really isn't going to make BG fans happy in my opinion.

While I understand that the majority like turn based, there are only like 10 RTWP games and Baldur's Gate is the king of them, it's the game that invented RTWP. It's like a slap in the face to change it just to make more sales but that's business. They could have called it something else and it would sell to the same crowd this is going to sell to without pissing of BG fans. This is no different than when they turned splinter cell and Hitman into action games. They are simply using a popular IP to get attention and build hype. No respect for the game series or it's fans.

The cost of AAA game development is so high that they have to change everything to the same formula that sells to mainstream in order to make a good profit and gain back on the cash they spent on development. That is why these types of games always disappoint me these days. Larian is independent and has worked hard to gain a big following but AAA game development always has this pitfall when the costs are this high.

Around 1409 DR, the merchant Orburt Lewel ordered the construction of a 9-foot (2.7-meter)-tall statue and pedestal in the Wide in honor of Minsc, who had saved Lewel's life. The statue, known as the Beloved Ranger, depicted Minsc cupping Boo in his hands. It was a popular landmark and meeting point in the busy commercial district.[10][11][12] Unbeknownst to anyone at the time, the statue was actually the real Minsc and Boo under the effects of petrification magic.[13]

Apparently no body bothered reading my last post, so im going say it again.

This game is set directly after one of the campaign modules for the pnp table top game. IT IS a baldurs gate game.

Well yeah, it's called Baldur's Gate after all. It's just not related to the original games in any way, shape, or form so it shouldn't be called Baldur's Gate 3. When consoles released a gauntlet style game that took place in the city of Baldur's Gate, they named it Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance and everybody was fine with that. Calling this Baldur's Gate 3 is misleading and kills any chance of a real sequel in the future. In fact, Beamdog who made the Enhanced Editions of the originals as well as the expansion pack SOD is no longer allowed to add anything to the original games because Larian now has the rights to Baldur's Gate. So all planned content is dead and Beamdog is screwed. This isn't Larian's fault, it's WOTSC's fault. As a major fan of the originals I find it annoying.

Delayed by a week.

So...I don't have a PC capable of running any modern games (got old and poor).....but this game is exactly the kind I loved playing years ago (and a big DnD nerd here.

So...any thoughts on whether going the Stadia route is maybe worthwhile if I want this, but can't go all in on an updated PC?

well, it looks very cool so far. Lots of clipping issues in the video sequences though. Animations sometimes look kinda off, a bit stiff.

I'm on the fence with this one. Part of what made Baldurs Gate great was the INCREDIBLE story. Now I have no idea if this game can live up to that or not, but that isn't my concern. My concern is the other part and how they switched to a generic turn based game instead of the turn based/real time mix that made the BG battles so unique, harrying, and ultimately satisfying. It was far more tactical in how to set your units up (or you could go hardcore and play as just one character which I loved to do).

I may pick this game up still when it leaves early access, unless of course it gets slammed hard by player ratings.
