maybe if you drive the old one down you could sell it to a Phoenix museum

" look kids this is rust and what people drive in some other parts of the country "

if it makes it :p

....

and the 22 Lightening has a trunk in front
but it does looks like it would fit my torches, refrigerant recovery machine and bottles and vacuum pump about 2500 in tools in a locked trunk

and it will charge my dewalt batteries everywhere

I’d be shocked if my old beast made it to the highway lol.

I honestly don’t know what I’m going to do yet…..I’m a man without a truck, and that hurts

I need to meet McKenzie Scott. She would take one look at me and feel instant pity, start lobbing $$ at me to make me go away :(

get a real one, Lazy

So when are you buying one?

I’m not sure tbh. I’ve actually found some decent deals, but I might wait a bit. I want a better truck now, but it’s not a must do immediately.

I made my decision for better or worse. If I buy now and prices fall later I have a vehicle I won’t get my money back on.

So I ordered the needed body parts and I’m doing all the work myself. The busted leaf spring….having that done at a shop as that can be troublesome if I can’t get the old one out….the front mount bolt is way too close tolerance to the frame and I don’t have a lift available to get the needed angle and leverage.

All told I’ll be sinking about $1200 into it. That’s acceptable if I can get another 2 years out of it.

the downside is, you'll still be stuck with an old car which might evolve other issues sooner or later. But i can absolutely understand your descision. Best of luck with it

Sometimes might be worth considering the risk of doing it yourself as well. Good luck to you.

That’s true. The way I see it, with no labor involved I’ll be out about $1200 if this dies on me. If I buy I’m potentially out $5000 or more, + the initial cost of the vehicle.

Wheel well panels came in, and I already have a rocker panel. This is going to be a class A b***ch. I went to work prepping (starting) the truck yesterday. Even getting the rear bumper off is going to take a can of rust buster and a bottle of MAP gas.

Even getting the wheel off so I can cut that busted leaf spring out is a workout. But I don’t want to pay for a flatbed or chance driving it to a shop. I would give a lot for a lift in my driveway right now.

I wish someone (smarter than me) could figure out a way to make a lift more affordable and/or easier to install into garages. Maybe in the next 20-30 years ..

In answer to the OP question, yes. We had to replace the engine in our 2011 Prius that my son drives. Total with parts and labor came to ~$6k. The car is worth less than that, considering how many miles it has on it. But it's still cheaper than another used car. Used car prices are nuts these days.

Just channel your inner 1970s and Bondo everything 1/2" thick, nothing to see here, everything is fine.

 That bondo called to me when I was getting the fiberglass kit lol.
