What's the last movie you saw?

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice 5/10 So far below the first movie. Story is a complete mess. Half the characters do nothing. Even some of the returning actors don't have the same energy. Catherine O'Hara is good though.

Alien Romulus - 7.5/10 Probably the fourth best in the franchise (after Aliens, Alien, Alien 3). Most of it was a homage to the old movies really, which is kinda nice, but it also felt a bit flat. Was hoping for something a bit fresher, maybe something a bit more haunting / horror? Cailee Spaeny and David Jonsson were good enough.

The Creator 6/10 - A whole lot of budget for a messy and unsatisfying story. Heck it only gets up to 6 due to budget.

Perfect Days (2023) I dunno/10 - 4:3 Aspect ratio movie about a dude cleaning the iconic public toilets of Tokyo (yes including the all glass one that goes opaque when you lock the door). It's a very slooooooow slice of life movie (literally the first 30min is his daily grind where nothing of note happens) about an 40-50yr old dude (there's something more to him than his job would imply but the film never answers) listening to cassette tape in his utility van (with appropriate era music), taking a picture of the same tree every working day when he has lunch at a park with a film based Olympus point and shoot camera that he has developed B&W at the same store near to the laundromat that he visits every weekend. It's not a period piece, everyone else has smart phones and the Skytree features prominently in the background in several shots.

Despite how boring it all sounds, managed to watch it all mainly because it does a good job drawing you intimately to his routine. Like you notice he has his keys, camera, change for the vending machine for the canned coffee, etc laid out like many of us do by the door on the way out but he always leaves his watch behind, except on laundry day. What drama there is to change up his routine are pretty small and none of them really gets resolved. I'm sure there's more social commentary than I caught due to it being a foreign film (unless you speak Japanese it'll be a 100% subtitled watch) but I wouldn't consider the stuff I did catch political.

Inside Out 2 - 7.5/10 - Felt like the setup was a lot slower and meandering than the first movie. Movie still hit when it needed to in the second half. Really had fond memories of the first one, maybe it set the bar really high for the sequel.

Star Wars: Rise of Skywalker 6.5/10 - Been putting this off since I've heard so many bad things about it. Yeah the story is a mess, lots of plot conveniences and deux ex machina. The big bad battle, was underwhelming. Well at least I can say I watched it finally.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 7/10 - This one seemed to move better than the first one and I barely noticed it's half an hour longer than the original. Very summer action flick movie where you'd probably forget most of it by the end of the day.

Glad 2 the Gladenning: Awful. Way too many appeals to the first movie. Too many speeches... I read Scott has a 4 hr cut of this thing. The longer cut of Kingdom of Heaven did improve that one but I doubt it can this time. Makes his terrible Napoleon look like a masterpiece. Denzel as good as he is, and hes about the only good thing here, couldnt save this thing.

Red One 6.5/10 - it does the job as a christmas movie but could have been better. evans and the rock are fine.

Carry-on 6/10 - mehtacular, didn't really make the most of its premise but wasn't horrible

Love Actually 7.5/10 good christmas romance movie, although spreads itself a bit thin so loses the power of something like Notting Hill.

Interstellar 7.5/10 - So at long last this movie recently arrived on Netflix where I finally got to see it. I didn't read all of the 12 page thread this movie generated here when it first came out but the arguments were not surprising. I liked the robot characters the most, especially the snarky one. As for the rest, well I'm going to appreciate the sciency parts of it and accept that to sell a movie you're going to have a sentimental human mumbo jumbo.

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl - 5/10 Barely any chuckles, too many of the same lame puns, pretty boring / predictable and yet also full of random coincidences. I still appreciate the aesthetics, and maybe I'm remembering the old movies with rose-colored glasses, but this was weak.

Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Foul - 7/10 I thought some of the jokes were okay and yes the story was predictable but not too different from their previous outings of late. I dunno must be the nostalgia speaking but I thought the movie pretty much delivered my expectations and got to see some favorite characters again after a long while.

Alien: Romulus - 6/10 Basic summer action flick. Totally agree with nutcrackr with his comments about it more of a homage but doesn't really add anything new so meh.
