What's the last movie you saw?

Smile 2

I remember liking the first one, but I actually can't remember a whole lot about what happened. The sequel didn't really add a whole lot. It was a bit long. So at times it felt like not enough was happening. But that did mean they focused a lot on the main character's mental state and probably the highlight of the movie was the performance of the main actress. They didn't really expand the mythology of the monster. Other than the beginning, which tied into the original, this was basically a stand-alone story. The ending felt a bit cheap and it kind of felt like they just wanted to set up the finale.

Moana - 7.8/10 This show was a lot of fun and had some catchy tunes to boot. Standard coming of age story but I dunno it flowed better than most. Nothing I felt really tugged at the heart strings though.

The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep 7/10 - Witchers can do so much more animated than RL! It was a fun animated movie though totally and utterly predictable. Heavily refs another animated movie including a whole freaken scene. Unlike the other animated Witcher movie there's more sex this time around so if got kids watching. Also it's set more in the current time of the show so the bard is there.

The Gorge - 7/10 pretty decent horror / action. Some of the romance is a bit awkward but the two leads have chemistry. Kinda seemed like a video game in the back half.

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves 7/10 - Finally showed up on Netflix, really straightforward story with no surprises but it was entertainment and got to see some critters from the Monster Manual CGI animated.

Yeah, I liked that one. Even the romance at the start was decent. Mostly because I went into it blind. So the start throws you off a bit with the tone of the movie.

gladiator 2 - 7/10 Fine but not as good as one narratively

Mr Right 6.5/10 started off stronger than it finished, was better when the two were just dating

Moneyball... I have a huge backlog, and this one wasn't even on it, started it on a whim. Good... a bit slow at time, but it was interesting learning about this piece of history.

The Electric State. Big budget but meh. Good effects but run of the mill story. Its a little like ET in Falloutland. 5-10

A Working Man (2025) - 4.5/10 Another trash movie for Statham. Felt so artificial and badly written. I swear to god these screenwriters (apparently Stallone helped??) are real dumb motherfuckers OR they cannot work together OR they just don't care and gave it to ChatGPT. 10 blind monkeys on typewriters could do better.

Johnny Mnemoinc (1995) - 7.5/10 I've seen this before but forgot like 95%. And, honestly, I was surprised that it was interesting. Many movies these days I find my patience waning, but not really with this one. Conceptually this was super ahead of its time. It felt like I was watching something that inspired Deus Ex and Cyberpunk 2077, to name a few. Have not yet read any of the stories from Gibson (writer) but I plan to soon.

Novocaine (2025) - 7.5/10 Quite enjoyable action flick with a simple enough premise. Quaid was good and Midthunder was hot and much better than she was in the super overrated Prey movie. Nothing complex but I'm pretty starved of action movies so my expectations are probably low.

I just saw this one, and it was pretty good. Like you said, not a lot of action movies lately. Although this one was more of the action-comedy variety. Some of the quips while he's getting beat up early and pleading not to fight were a bit lame, but that's probably my only minor complaint about thte movie.

Wild Robot 8/10 - Other than a few un-eveness and plot contrivances it was a great show and I've been listening to the main theme long before the movie showed up on Netflix. The first time you meet the possum family was hilarious.

Sinners. Really well done up til the ending which I thought wasnt quite sticking the landing... musical numbers and soundtrack was cool.

The Amateur (2025) - 5/10 another garbage spy movie. The story is so annoying but I can't really describe why. It's like they had a plot outline (good) but did almost everything that I didn't want them to do so I was just constantly angry at what was happening. The tech stuff was overcooked. And the hallucinations of his dead wife were downright abhorrent. Based on a novel, so curious to see if the novel itself is bad, or it was a bad adaption, but can't stomach reading it for fear of the first option.
