What TV shows are you currently watching?

Shrinking (appletv+) - Felt like it took a few eps to know the characters enough to start caring. Fun little show (half hour eps) with some represent! Glad other Ragers approved!

Edgerunners: Pretty good. Late to this one almost a year after it came out. With the addon and huge reworked update coming I was reminded to check it out... Funny to see how they used some of the game's glitches and bugs in the toon.

I watched The Last of Us.

I liked it. I never played the game, but from talk about the game, I knew what the ending would be but not much else.

Probably the easy comparable is The Walking Dead because they're both about living in a zombie world. They play out some of the same tropes, a zombie world where they're mainly dealing with people instead of zombies, a group of bad guys led by an unthreatening soccer-mom type woman, cannibal people, peaceful settlement people, etc.

I like The Last of Us better. But it's hard to say, because of recency bias, I'm thinking more of shitty later seasons The Walking Dead, and I did enjoy that series early on.

This one is mainly about two characters. After the first episode, I thought the girl would be an insufferable character, but she ended up alright.

The problem with the show is that it has a number of momentum-killing episodes:

Obviously, the gay episode was one of them. The episode itself was fine, if a little bit more on the Walking Dead style where everything is basically peaceful and normal-ish. But I call it a momentum killer because it's the third episode in the series. The first episode is an intro to everything, and ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with this radio warning. Then you get the second episode where a major character dies and you have your first look at the zombies. And instead of dealing with that, you get an episode about two characters you've never met. And they die together at the end of it, so you never have to think about them again. And it also wraps up the one cliffhanger with the radio warning because it's just that they died peacefully so there was no danger.

Then after an episode that has the main characters enter a major city and run into a new group of bad guys, there's another cliffhanger where they get ambushed while sleeping. Instead of following up on that, you get half an episode about another guy and his kid that you've never met before to give their whole backstory. At least that one only lasts half an episode and the back half is pretty good.

Then after an episode that sees Joel meet up with his brother, and they finally get to the hospital only to find it empty and then they get attacked and Joel collapses with a stab wound - they cut to another bottle episode. At least this one is about Ellie and gives you the story of how she got bit, so it feels a little more relevant.

Overall, I enjoyed it. Throughout the series, I was looking forward to watching the next episode.

Kung Fu Panda: The Dragon Knights Season 3 (Netflix) - On par with the second season but almost twice the length to finish off the series. Fun series just the first season was a bit slow.

Encounters docu on Netflix. Pretty well done by Speilberg's Amblin. Only 4 eps but some pretty interesting cases and offering a balanced approach.

Started to watch it and then didn't, but now maybe I just will.

Also Gen V is out. Both shows are slow though. I couldn’t get past 30 mins each before I moved on to something else.

Finally finished Edgerunner as well. Was decent. Not sure what the hype was about.

Castlevania: Nocturne (Netflix) - If you're familiar with the first series then this one is similar. Sorta jarring that while it takes place in France, except for the Haitians they all spoke British! So far the show has been really tame in its nudity, has represent, just about as violent and gory as the previous and definitely set itself up for more seasons.

"Silo" season 1..i thought the middle of the season got a bit boring but then it picked up and had a solid ending.

"From" Season 1 and 2. it wasn't bad...the show is from the people who brought us 'Lost'.

  1. Ok I added it to my wish list of things to watch
  2. chances of me getting to it are next to zero
  3. I am watching Lupin but I think they overdid it with this season
  4. Seems all of France is stupid which isn't very far from reality but this boi can walk around with his face plastered everywhere with so much ease
  5. Meanwhile I started lessons in chemistry. First episode was fine. Women empowerment in the 50s and shit. Brie Larson getting worried about rape. You know the usual.

Watched the third, and final, season of Ragnarok.

Pretty weak. The overall plot of the third season was kind of weak. Mostly the main character goes a bit mad with power. Not much in the way of the conflict that the show had been setting up.

But the conclusion was terrible:

Basically, the good guys and bad guys are about to battle, and then just decide not to and make piece.

Then we find out that the whole gods and giants things was just a fantasy made up in the mind of the main character. I think at one point in the first season the main character gets called schizophrenic after getting in trouble.

Turns out he was depressed his dad died and struggling in school so he created a fantasy out of some Thor comics he was reading and projected that into reality. But it really doesn't make a lot of sense because there really wasn't much to hint that it was all imaginary, and there were things that clearly did happen in reality, so we don't have any clue what was real and what wasn't.

The 'main character imagined it' is one of the dumber TV series conclusions writers can pull.

Death Note - Yeah this anime is ancient but popped up again by some anitubers so gave it a go, especially how one of them reminded me The Simpsons did a spoof of it in a Tree House of Horrors episode. It's really good til about 2/3 of the way through, the last third could probably be skipped, not that it was bad but more because it was unnecessary.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix (Netflix) - Somewhat campy and cheesy video game show and yet the usual video game story managed to hold it together for me for the 6 short episodes it had. Show has represent and did what the latest Castlevania did not and that was free the peen!

Wheel of Time S2: I thought it was a good notch above S1 which had a few rough episodes but was decent nonetheless. Looking forward to S3. Havent read the book but story seems pretty solid as is.

Pluto (Anime, Netflix) - Animation quality was excellent and the story is good for the first half or so. It's sorta has a lot of the same themes as a lot of early anime so the resolution felt well worn to me and these days a lil preachy. Also I wished I finished this thing before some current events as despite the fictional names of the countries in this show it's pretty obvious who the real world counterparts are.
