What have I gotten myself into!?

Finally get to see this and reply, LOL. I slipped on a wet garage floor and landed on a large steel beam that holds a dolly-wheel on a ride-on lawn mower. I hit it so hard that I heard my ribs cracking, ouch!

Hard to believe that was over a year ago now.

3 papers remaining until I finish my law degree. 9 teaching weeks to go and I have 2 optional assignments, 1 compulsory assignment and 3 exams. For the first time I feel like I am absolutely going to finish my law degree after 12 freaking years. Managed to swing an A on my dissertation as well so will graduate with an OK GPA and Honours.

Congrats Deimos! Looks like it's been a long time coming. This thread started in 2012?

I never read this thread until now. And it's amazing how this website has been allowed threads to exist that tell stories like this one. Congratulations!

I made the Dean's list, best student for Banking and Financial Services Law. That was nice.
I just read through this thread again and yeah, it is quite the tale. There is a whole lot of untold law school stories too that were, frankly, unbelieveable coincidences.
But first, one of the early posts was about law students getting stood up and humiliated. Well, law school in NZ isn't like that. Law students took care of humiliating themselves by asking dumb questions that clearly showed that they didn't do the damn reading. No one was ever put on the spot for it though, and they were totally shameless.
Crazy Coincidences while studying (these all occurred while studying the relevant papers):
  • Criminal law - a client of mine, claiming refugee or protected person status (high risk of turture if he returned to his home country), was accused of commiting serious crimes before coming to New Zealand. I had to write an opinion about whether my client had committed the offences claimed. Immigration New Zealand ultimately granted him recognition as a 'protected person' and he died not long after .
  • Property law (real estate) - my wife got into a real estate dispute over a fence.
  • Insolvency law - I almost got sued for an unpaid bill that I was disputing.
  • Banking and financial services law - I had a client who was convicted for breaching financial services law in their hime country and had to write an opinion to request a 'ministerial waiver' (which was granted).
