Hello Everyone,
Nearly two years ago, we migrated our forums from VBulletin 3.6 to VBulletin 5.7.5. However, since then, we’ve encountered persistent issues, and the site has been frustratingly unstable. In January and part of February this year, the site was even completely down. Feeling a sense of responsibility toward our community, I decided to take matters into my own hands.
Last Friday, I embarked on a mission to revitalize Rage3D. First, I meticulously cleaned up the old VBulletin database, bringing the site back online swiftly. But that wasn’t enough. As we approach the 25th anniversary of Rage3D’s creation this April, I felt compelled to make lasting improvements. VBulletin, unfortunately, lagged behind other forums, especially when it came to mobile usability. Even during its rare moments of stability, the site remained painfully slow.
Driven by curiosity and a desire to enhance our community’s experience, I delved into extensive research. Despite not being a professional web developer or possessing advanced coding skills, I spent the last 15 hours moving Rage3D to the XenForo forum architecture. And I’m thrilled to share that the hard work paid off!
The site now boasts unprecedented speed, thanks to the new database, which is 27 times smaller than the old VBulletin database. Additionally, our revamped forum incorporates modern features, making it more engaging and user-friendly.
I take immense pride in presenting a stable and rejuvenated Rage3D. As we dive back into threads and conversations, I look forward to a frustration-free experience. So here’s to being less productive at work—because browsing Rage3D is time well spent!
