The Official Fall 2016 Apple Event Thread

Yeah .. how much is Applecare though :(

Do you regularly break screens?

$99/yr, I would have just paid for year 2. This is the 2nd time I've broken the screen. I work in a stone mill office, so it's a bit more dangerous than most places.

Apple store was nuts yesterday, and took them about 2.5hrs to repair it. I went back to the house instead of waiting. I am glad that Apple does these kinds of repairs though, it's not nearly as easy with other brands of phones. My phone is like new again, and the new home button is ever so slightly more clicky now, which I like.

That's the number one reason I went to Apple. If you live near an Apple store you can pretty much get instant service. I had to deal with an iPhone and an iPod touch and they were really good.

Apple is 100% on board with iOS. I wonder if it will be their downfall.

It breaks my heart to hear that Apple has completely disbanded the dedicated OS X team.

I think convergence is impossible to avoid. Microsoft is already hinting towards that with full Windows on ARM, Google seems to be going that direction with Android and Chrome OS. I think at some point, the mobile OS's are just going to be so robust (or PC OS in MS's case) that developing a separate OS for other devices won't be worth it.

FWIW, Mac OS never has been able to capture the market, but iOS has. Why not go towards their strength?

At least at first, it sounds like Apple is going to let the Desktop market go. But maybe they will pull on iOS's OSX roots and pull the two together?

Merging the two OS's won't help Apple grow market share in laptop\desktop. But it will help YoY declining Ipad market share and Apple may introduce a 2in1 device(growing market) with an announcement of the merge\new OS.

Have a question regarding the iPhone 6s Home button. The Home button on my 6s seems to be getting a bit "mushy" or something. If I press it somewhere at the edge of the button (not in the middle), I don't get any clicking sound (and barely any sensation of it being actually depressed) but get a response from the phone. I only get a clicking sound if I press the button right in the middle. Secondly, it seems the button doesn't really depress much. My mom's iPhone 6 (which is older than my 6s) Home button feels much better than mine and a lot more "solid" in terms of its clicking feel and sound. Is this normal? My phone is still under warranty which expires sometime in March of this year.

My button was like this before, and then when my screen broke and I got it replaced they put a new one in, it's back to really clicky and nice again.

Maybe there's some dust or something under your button? I dunno if something like a duster can could get down in there, but maybe try to blow it out? I dunno.

So after I posted that, I got a q-tip and dipped it in water. Removed the excess water and "rubbed" the wet q-tip on the home button including its edges. I also pressed the home button with the q-tip while I was rubbing on it to get a bit of water in there. Then I dried the home button and continued to press it multiple times. The home button is now super clicky (pretty much like my mom's iPhone 6). Guess I found a cheap and easy remedy. :p

Out of curiosity, what are you using your button for?

I barely ever click it outside of Apple Pay myself.

I use mine all the time. You must use your phone very differently. 3D touch?

While 3d touch helps I dont think you could use it to the point where you dont need the home button at all. Maybe he just doesnt use his phone often?

Either way apple did away with the mech button for the ip7 so once you guys upgrade youll never have the problem again.

Yes, primarily 3D touch, and raise to wake.

I use my phone all the time, typically down to 20-30% by the end of the work day even while offloading a bunch of stuff to my watch.

Having Android for a week has sucked. I miss so many things on my iPhone. Things I never expected to really miss, like swiping up for the control center, the lack of clutter on the top bar, the general quality of software. And I love seeing how many alerts I have on Facebook, email, twitter, etc from the app launcher. My iPhone feels like it's on a whole different level from Marshmallow with 10.2. I don't think I'll be able to go back.
