Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice (rel. 22nd March)

raging bull. you gotta be kidding me.
I don't even...
good place to uninstall the game, I suppose :yep:

It’s not intuitive, but you can deflect his attacks. Also, use the tools the game gives you. He doesn’t like loud noises. Hitting him in the head causes more damage as well. Once you get through him the game opens up more so don’t give up now.

holy crap, yeah. finall figured how to parry him.
now I'm confused as hell as what to do/where to go.
surprisingly stepped into the start area where there's a mini boss with a spear.
also got a key from the guys on the bridge and got owned by a fatty with a swinging bell.
decided to go back and I'm currently inside a building with blue samurai after following fumes on the castle roofs with obnoxious shuriken-throwing feathered guys.
I find ai is acting kinda wonky here.

oh, and game surely doesn't hold your hand when it comes to deciding your path

Hey Lurk, sounds like you're progressing just fine.

If you want to know, your main goal right now is the top of the castle, but there's a couple different other paths you could explore. I suggest keep working your way up the castle for now though.

thanks for the tip

counting on this thread to keep myself together in my journey through this nightmare

Just for awareness, there's a lot to explore from your current location. My second playthrough I just went anywhere and everywhere I could collecting beads/lighting idols up and upgrading the prosthetic. Lots of fun doing it that way and you get to upgrade abilities along the way.

Blah, I still have not started in on that final boss fight.

Saturday night ended up doing other things, and last night I did sit down to play but decided I wanted to explore around a bit first and clean up any endgame stuff I may have missed. I farmed some treasure carps for a while to get the last mask fragment then decided to go mini-boss hunting. I need only one more prayer bead to level up again but I haven't been able to find a mini-boss that drops a bead.

I might have to resort to a guide to find where all the endgame mini-bosses are to see which ones I missed. I just wanted to level up my health/posture one more time before the final fight.

Have you been back to Great Serpent Shrine since end game sequences started?

Oh yes, Lone Shadow Masanaga. He was one of the first I found after the castle was under seige and made me realize there were new mini-bosses to fight. I beat him already. I went looking for Tengu and found him instead.

I was just reading up and found out you can go back to Hirata Estate and fight Owl again, but I'm not sure if I missed out on that at this point? Guessing yes, given the way the story has gone for me. Turned out I never did get the Father's Bell Charm since I didn't get all the dialogue from Emma/Kuro although I thought I did, and looks like you need that to enter the second Hirata memory. Sucks because there's a couple more beads I could have got there. BUT, it makes me realize there are definitely more beads to get since I only need one more at the moment to level up, and if there are 2 there that I missed that means there's at least 3 more after that to make 4 for another level up.

Will have to keep looking. Sucks because I don't remember all the mini-bosses I killed, end game or before, so I'll have to just travel around and hunt.

Yep, that's the one I asked about, if you got that certain item from Emma. It's too late now, the point you're at. That was frustrating for me as I just needed 1 more as well. I have that formerly glitched play through at the end though (just beat DoH) so I may do a guide as well just to make double sure. I've been searching for a while though while upgrading and nada. If there's one more, it's well hidden.

No worries, reading through this guide I see at least 2 more I can get that are just laying in the environment I just plain missed lol.

Worked on that final boss for about 45 minutes tonight, but couldn't seal the deal and beat it yet. Will have to give it a try again tomorrow.

I can kill Genichiro reliably every time no problem, and I can pretty reliably make it to the 2nd phase of Isshin almost every time but I got to phase 3 only twice so far. So I'm working on mastering his 2nd phase with his duel weapons right now.

It is tough making it to that 3rd phase. Both times I made it there I died pretty quickly trying to get a good look at his final moves. Man, due to all the different phases this one's going to take some time. Its really fun and addictive though. You literally have to master each phase to survive to the end. Such awesome game design. Loving it.

Not a spoiler or cheese, just tagging because... I had a bad time with him until I got him out of the grass and into the large clearing nearby. Much easier to see his tells there.

As long as one other guy in this thread is actively still playing (Lurk) probably best to use spoiler tags.

Yeah man, the landscape of that fight is definitely something that needs to be considered. I got killed a couple times because I ran into one of those big stones, and once I got knocked off the cliff. Definitely need to find a comfortable spot and bait him near it.

I've got a good strategy going, just need to perfect my execution of it. Baiting that jump attack on the 2nd phase as well as his thrust for a Mikiri counter is the best bet to get in sure attacks. I'm good enough at dodging around the jump, and Mikiri was mastered weeks ago. If I had more time last night, maybe another half hour or so I probably would have got him. I feel pretty confident I'll get it next time, and then I'll be sad because it will be over lol. After beating every boss in this game I always want to replay them again a few more times because for obvious reasons I always beat them right as I get the hang of the fight and really start having fun.

Oh yeah you're close lol.

Make a save file before you go in so you can replay it later!

I know you don't care for his, but I really liked Fightincowboys take on the very first phase of that fight.
"Go sit down. Just git!"

I'll check it out after I beat it.

And yeah, I'll make a save backup so I can go back and fight them again. I've been wishing for years that From Software would put a boss rush mode in their games. I think it would be super popular. Just a selectable mode at the title screen. Once you beat a boss in the main game, it unlocks to fight any time you want from the main menu just for fun. That would be awesome.

thanks Meteor.
Still have to fight Genichiro. Got rid of the fatty at the main door by chipping off his health bit by bit.
really enjoyed the fight with the swordmaster inside the castle.

only problem: the rubber of my Xbox controller's left analogue is coming off! :o

looks like I'll be stuck playing this game for a while :D

Game is beat. End came pretty quickly after all the practice from last night. I just love how when you first face a boss like this you feel completely overmatched, but in the end manage to beat it with ease. Testament to masterful game design.

I absolutely adore that final boss fight. It is superb, and worth the price of the game all on its own. I honestly cannot think of a better boss fight in any of their games, though i haven't played Bloodborne still.

I think I'll take a break before trying NG+, but i will definitely pick it up again soon. I want fully upgrade the prosthetics, and do the bosses i missed.

Wow, we sure think differently about game design

Bloodborne is much easier. I still enjoyed it much more though.
