Yes, it will be against the angled wall. I’m exploring mounting options now. I got the antique desk and already started refinishing that and the final height after I get the new legs for it will in part determine the mounting height. Whatever mount I buy needs to have an aggressive tilt available, but I’m also debating a custom wooden “box” solution that would be part mount, part storage and part wire management. I‘d like it to be at least as clean, similar to this.

The height and angle of this is similar to mine.

Okay yeah that's sort of what I had in mind as well, with that ceiling ish wall mount. I know there are some options out there.

Are you planning on painting any of these walls? Before we start putting things together and on walls, as long as we're cleaning this room out and rearranging ****, we might as well start with any wall painting or work you have in mind there.

I love the “we” I do appreciate the help :D

Mostly just cleaning. I know that color isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but it’s calming for me and fits the antique/touch of modern aesthetic I like :)

The hard part right now is parting with gear I probably won’t be able to use again, all my flight bags and gear  and figuring how I want my bookshelves to go - love my books, they need a home.

I think once that nemesis of a kneewall is all set up, the rest will fall into place nicely.

The one thing I haven’t tackled yet is attempting to wall fish a cat6 from my router in the basement to the attic and down that angled wall. The old cat5 I have going to the straight wall was brutal, but doable. This one might be beyond me.

I never did post a pic, and would be ashamed to now  The room has my desk with current setup, wiring is atrocious due to things being moved, and everything else is on the floor as I’m bringing in new (old but refinished as I find it) furniture, just because I like the “old” aesthetic.

Edit: gimme a minute and I’ll share my shame :p

The busy side:

The I wrecked everything side:

To be fair to myself, I had a nice, clean setup and then decided I wanted to change it, and it’s been…challenging, getting the more antique-ier look I want.
Did a homeless person squat in this place. Damn. :bleh:

Oh I wasn't making any comments about the color of the walls. Rather, I was just pointing out that if you DID want to paint the walls eventually, it's best to do that now. I'm already wishing I'd held off on my office setup until I did the painting I always knew I had ahead of me. And the baseboard trim.

If you're good with the trim, and the walls, then let's talk about the rest of the room.

Do you have any closets in this space? Drawers? Storage? Is there a wall opposite that window beside the door that you have to work with?

I think once that nemesis of a kneewall is all set up, the rest will fall into place nicely.

Are we leaving the wall, and trim, and stuff and putting a desk in front of it, spaced away from the wall a bit, and wall mounting the TV above it?

Would it be easier to fish that Cat6 cable to another part of the room? You could always run it down under the baseboard trim to get it where you want. Is there any gap under that trim for a flat ethernet cable? It's what I did. It's not the most elegant and cleanest solution, but works.

The little 5-port network switch is POE powered, but spends all its time behind the Fender amp so it's not like I need to clean it up much right now. Though once I paint this wall I'm tempted to get panel moulding baseboard trim to hide it instead of leaving it in the gap under the wall.

Here's the baseboard trim you could use if you wanted to clean it up and run it alongside the wall.

5+ inch baseboard trim with wire runs.

https://www.oracdecorusa.com/baseboard-moulding-c-39/panel-moulding-p-1127.html

If you weren't comfortable taking the current trim off the wall, can't get to the gap under it, and wanted to run cables along the baseboards anyways, you could always look at one of these options. It depends on how tall that trim is. If it's much taller than maybe 3.25" then you might not be able to go this route.

https://www.oracdecorusa.com/baseboard-moulding-c-39/baseboard-moulding-p-828.html

With that, if the trim is 3.25" or less, you could put this along side it and run cables along the top without disturbing the current trim. It uses an adhesive.

That’s an excellent point, but yes I’m rolling with what’s there. There were bookshelves in place prior to that photo, so the paint and all was protected.

yep, that wall opposite has the closet. It’s decent size, but also packed full, although that will also be changing very soon.

Yes, and I was debating replacing the bookshelves, but might want a cleaner look. Shelves and books gather dust fast and are just a headache to keep clean.

I’m a little embarrassed to admit I didn’t know that channeled trim was a thing. But I really like where you’re going with this.

I’ve always resisted wrapping any cables/cords around rooms, but given the painful fact that I got a nail in the skull (low attic/shingle nails) the last time I was up there - getting a new Ethernet from the basement to the top of the chase is near the high part of the attic and that closet is right next to it….I could run it into the closet and through the base trim. No one would ever know it was there.

And I could probably avoid another spike to the brain because that hurt

Loving this - you have me thinking outside the box  :)

Okay, let's talk about that closet then. I've turned mine into a storage space. You could do something similar. Grab an Alex drawer or two from Ikea, as well as some pegboards, and some cube storage for books or fabric baskets and you're set.

It's a bit of a mess still in my closet, though this is half of the crap I had stacked up in there until last weekend.

So, shelf for printer and paperwork. Alex drawers for cables and stuff. Pegboard for hanging backpacks, bags, and other stuff I like to have handy. I just put the pegboards up last weekend so I have a few hooks and stuff to pick up to make this work out how I want but it's a start.

I also found hanging file holders that fit in the cubes. So the top cube is like Auto, House, etc.

I only figured it out a few months ago when I was looking for a solution to run cables along baseboards in the soon-to-be basement home theater room. We get to start on that project first weekend in August, once a friend who is staying with us gets to move into the house he bought down the street.

Expect a lot of pictures and pleas for help from me in the weekends to come as I figure out what I want to do with that space. :bleh2:

If you can map out a plan that runs along baseboards from somewhere easy-to-get-to like a closet where you can run Cat6 then you can maybe toss a little 5 port switch on there, run a cable along the baseboards, and you're set. It won't solve the problem of where you come up out of the baseboard. You'll need to cut a notch into the baseboard trim, pull the cable up and out, and then hopefully it's behind a desk where you can cable management it away. But it at least makes the run around the room - and hopefully away from any attic-murder-nails - a lot more clean.

I never even considered putting that beast of a printer in the closet, and I have a couple of 5 port switches hanging around. I am liking that a lot  The additional upside is that the kneewall side of the closet isn’t flat inside the door. It also goes deep towards the front of the house, so there’s even more room back there.

If I install the shelving/bookcase I’m thinking about, it will completely hide anything in that wall coming out of the closet :)

I also have to go to Ikea get the legs I want for that desk, so I can look at the options you listed there.

This is beginning to look so much easier than I initially had in mind. Thank you Rick :)

Honestly, anything you don't need immediately should go in the closet. It's right there so it's not like it's going to be inconvenient to get to. And the fewer things out and around, the less busy and cluttered the room will feel, the more you'll want to just naturally spend time in there.

As an aside, I just ordered some of that Orac Decor trim yesterday, so it'll probably get here maybe this weekend. I'll share thoughts and pics once it arrives. I ordered the tall flat 5-7/8ths trim pieces so I can share thoughts on how much room there is to hide and run some cable management around the baseboards. And of course, I'll take before and after pics so you get an idea of what to expect if you want to go the same route.

Just did. It's in the Off-Topic: Home Theater section we have.

Ikea legs. Are you talking about these legs for a desktop?

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/adils-leg-white-90217972/

If so, what's the material you're using for the actual desktop itself?

This is beginning to look so much easier than I initially had in mind. Thank you Rick :)

You're very welcome. I'm glad my trial-and-error so far is helpful. I think you really have an awful lot of options to pick from to make this space unique and yours.

As far as the desk, here’s an image of it upon arrival to the basement workshop, and after the first coat of stain.

More than just a little helpful. I can get myself ‘stuck’ over the simplest things sometimes lol.

Okay, I really like that and yeah I get now what you're saying. That's gonna look really sweet. I don't know what I have any suggestions on what to do differently.

My man, that is a sexy ****ing desk.

You're thinking 29" to the top surface? Or higher? That'll affect the length of the legs you get. Since you're working with something that'll add a few inches no matter what. How tall is the desk from bottom surface to desktop? Also, you might look into some wire management in advance options.

I picked up a package of these little guys and have them ALL OVER the underside of my desk. Which has been working great, since I can put them where I want, then zip tie **** in. If I need to pull a cable out and redo something, I can just cut the zip tie, redo the cable, and zip it back in.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07J1GW4RB/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title

I also have a bunch of these ****ers stuck on the outside edges of my desks in a few places where I want to have cables handy but off the surface.

I hear ya. I'm entirely stuck on the downstairs home theater project, and picking a color for the room. One wall is going to be dark, some sort of dark gray, and the other walls white. But... ****... I'm stuck now.

Yessir, 29-30” depending on leg height. With that angled wall the only difference will be moving it front or back a couple of inches and readjusting the monitor.

And I love those wiring guides. I’m going to order a few of those

Unfortunately that’s where it sits until my desk and other renovations are done.

I really appreciate the thread input, thanks :)

The C2 is $1399 pretty much everywhere I looked.

I paid $799 At Amazon for this bnib . It’s showing $987 at Amazon now though, and it’s $999 at Microcenter, but both sites show the regular price at $1499.

I think I scored a good deal :)
