RX480 or Fury Pro

Very nice numbers from the 480 with Vulkan. I wonder if NV has any driver improvements for the API as they are struggling with DX12 as well.. It seems like NV hasn't optimized much for anything other than DirectX11 and under, and OpenGL.

Looking at the thread, he is using LN. That bios he posted.... it is a card killer for those without serious cooling.

As I said Fury Pro all day long. Just bought an Acer XF270HU freesync gaming monitor that does 144hz, IPS panel and WOW. Coupled with Fury Pro it's amazing. Woot. Don't think a 480 can keep up with that

1080p freesync / g-sync IPS monitor can't be found ...

A thread from 2015:

1440p requires a hefty system to be supported decently imo and also long term...

For now i already bought another 1080p monitor last december Eizo Foris 2434...
I am used to NOT using gsync / freesync..BUT

Looking again on this german review site i see intersting results in 1080p...

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-im-test.html?start=8

Witcher 3 on both 1060 gtx and rx 480 have higher mins than Fury in 1080p

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-im-test.html?start=9

Rise of tomb raider have same behaviour and the difference is big ... I mean 14 fps vs 37 rx480 / 40 gtx1060 ... That's something

You see that the Nano (with Fury x unlocked stuff shaders, clusters whatever) have 25 Fps ...

In hitman doesn't matter as the mins are in one digit for some reason for most cards. The high fps is over 60fps anyway so again it doesn't matter...

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-im-test.html?start=10

In this test mins from rx480 match the ones from Fury pro ... The high fps is anyway over 60fps...

In dirt rally the Fury vs rx 480 goes to fury for mins also by quite a margin but 73 mins ... Who cares

In Anno2205 fury pro mins match rx 480 mins so again...nice

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-im-test.html?start=13

In the rest of the bunch of games same behaviour more or less...

Talos principle is again very intersting...Rx480 vs fury

The highs are lower than fury but mins the same

http://www.hardwareluxx.de/index.ph...nvidia-geforce-gtx-1060-im-test.html?start=16

Doom in vulkan have rx480 go over 60fps in all departments...The difference for fury it doesn't matter...

So i feel the rx 480 is good enough after all too for a "fury-like" experience without breaking the bank too much...

TBH the 480 or 1060 are not really "new" tech as they use the "old" GDDR5 memory. They might be 14/16 FinFet but they don't use HBM which is the future. HBM will mature in the next few years and the 480/1060 will be stuck on legacy memory that no one cares about.

The Pascal and Polaris cards are stop gaps until Vega or big Pascal launch which will both support HBM2. If your into low/mid range cards then 480/1060 is the way to go but expect support for these cards to taper off very quickly whereas the Fury Pro will keep going as it one of AMD's current flagships.

I was a skeptic about Freesync but I have to admit that games I play are massively better with it enabled to say it's like night and day. Hopefully this will improve going forward.

OK I spent £380 on this new monitor but it feels like I've bought a new graphics card as the games run so much better. Happy chappy

RX 480 is a big stone for AMD this year and the comming ones..It what keeps the company afloat...
Rx 480 was not meant to use HBM/2 anyway...HBM/2 imo is still expensive and kept for expensive cards..Maybe in 4 years or so HBM will go down to mid-range segment..Also you wanted a card that the masses can afford..The masses couldn't afford Fury's like they can afford rx'es..
I agree with you that the support may go on for Fury but is GCN.I remeber that someone with 290 said that he still get optimizations here and there even today..On the other hand the mins in benchmarks are really strange vs rx 480...The drop is kinda big...But i also remember that HardOCP said that Fury pro behaves strange last year..

Badsykes, TBH I'm not interested in 1080 benchmarks as I stopped playing in that resolution 19 months ago. If you look at the 1440 results the Fury has much higher mins than the 480 and this increases when you go to 4k.

It was very well noted at the launch of the Fury X that it's performance was much worse in 1080 but improved immensely as you cranked up the res. The same was true for the Fury Pro vs 980.

At the end of the day you pays your money and you takes your choice. For me the Fury is more future proof, if a graphics card can ever be, than a 480. Simples

With 3rd parties charging a stupid $100 premium on the RX480, just better off getting a Fury X.. sitting right between 1060GTX FEs (350) and 1070s (450)currently..

After seeing this video i have to rethink the upgrade...

FX8370 vs i5-6500 | GTX 970 OC | 1440p | in 10 Games

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unCZSVT4HMQ

Seems that the gtx 970 is showing it's potential on i5 6500...Almost 20-30% difference for the i5 + gtx 970 combination vs FX + 970 ...
In this case a Fury will be crippled even more.

Also

This is a testing with Fx8370 + Fury vs Intel + Fury ...

http://wccftech.com/intel-skylake-6700k-6600k-amd-fx-8370/

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-fx-8370e-cpu,3929-7.html

It's clear the FX8370 is holding the Fury back in some games ...

So my place is with Rx 470 or Rx 460 ... hahah

Here is a 144hz 1080p G-sync monitor which is also 3d vision capable for $340
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...6&cm_re=g-sync_monitor-_-24-160-226-_-Product

Funny is I bought some 3d vision glasses ages ago and never used them

Well with a 1070 I should have enough performance now to use them if I had a monitor but do I really want to?
