Thought Id put one up. Id like to know how VSR is on this card. Basically 4k vsr to 1080p as Im in the market for a 32" 1080p-1440p mon once it has HDR along with freesync.

Does the 480 bring new VSR functionality or is it still bound by the same limitations?

I'm pretty sure VSR is limited by the output of your screen, i.e., if your TV is only 1080P @ 60Hz max is 2160P. I don't think that can change?

AMD limited what higher resolutions you could use to the newer cards last gen. They also limited what resolutions you could use to only a few options according to this chart.

Where as with Nvidia they let you go ham.

1080p DSR

2103 x 1183 (1080p DSR 1.20x)
2560 x 1440 (1080p DSR 1.78x)
2715 x 1527 (1080p DSR 2.00x)
2880 x 1620 (1080p DSR 2.25x)
3325 x 1871 (1080p DSR 3.00x)
3840 x 2160 (1080p DSR 4.00x)

1440p DSR

2804 x 1577 (1440p DSR 1.20x)
3135 x 1764 (1440p DSR 1.50x)
3413 x 1920 (1440p DSR 1.78x)
3620 x 2036 (1440p DSR 2.00x)
3840 x 2160 (1440p DSR 2.25x)
4434 x 2494 (1440p DSR 3.00x)
5120 x 2880 (1440p DSR 4.00x)

It would be nice if the resolution options were extended and less restrictive this time around like they are with Nvidia

AMD's VSR has a bunch of weird limitations as shown in the chart above. Does polaris improve on that?

What Seyiji missed is DSR runs all those resolutions at any refresh rate too.

Sorry 60 Hz peasant race here but good to know

If I set DSR to 4x on my 3440c1440 display, it allows 6880x2880 @ 100hz (my monitors refresh rate)

that's ****ing nuts lol

seyiji you made me curious

Now you guys are playing with powers and resolutions only meant for the gods. Tread carefully and prepare your sacrifices!

Yeh DSR will run any resolution up to 4x native, and at your max refresh rate. But, it's more of a 'software' solution, where as AMD's approach is more of a hardware solution. It's a shame because AMD's method would provide superior quality if it could offer the same resolutions and refresh rates.

Whats the 480 like for overclocking? My Fury Pro that was supposed to be an overclockers dream is pants. About 5% tops which is defo not worth the effort IMHO.

I even use the Trixx utility that allows over voltage and it still won't meaningfully overclock. Sapphire also released an overclocked version of my card, overclocked to 1040 mhz. Wow!!

TBH the card at stock is amazing and I'm keeping it for another 12 months or so as it copes with all my games at 1440p no problem. Might get even better with DX 12 titles whenever they arrive. As I don't game at 4k don't really see a need to upgrade.

The RX 480 has an extra VSR resolution which is available on 4K displays which wasn't there on previous cards I believe. You can only see it when one display is on the system since it can't handle 2 displays and using that res at the same time.

5120×2880 (so 5K resolution)

Have you tried unlocking the extra CUs on the card? The Fury Pro I got recently like yours won't overclock more than to about 1050 MHz (doesn't need much extra voltage to get there, but doesn't seem to want to go higher no matter what). However, it also unlocked to a full Fury X without any issues.

You get about 4% increase from the extra 50 MHz, and 4% from the extra CUs (2% if you only manage a partial unlock), so 6-8% more, which isn't amazing, but it's something.

My 4gb 480 is on backorder currently. No rush though. I'll get it when I get it and for once I'm actually excited to tweak voltages and OC's on a video card. I feel like I can get a lot out of it with an undervolt/OC combo and keep temps cool.

And maybe get an 8 gig card out of it... stories are most of the first batch of 4 gig cards are merely bios limited to 4 gig.

Yeah, there is that too! I figure for $200 this is just something for me to mess around with a bit and give the HTPC a nice upgrade over it's 2GB 380...

And... I cancelled my order. The more I read about the AIB models, the more I want one.

Waiting for that beautiful Sapphire Nitro...
