Radeon R9 Nano thread

Hi Noko thanks for the information regarding Powertune.

I've overclocked the GPU to 1100, memory to 1050 and Powertune to +20, upped the Mv to +20 and I get about 10% better performance. I also logged the card using Strixx and the fan never went above 30% and the temp peaked at 69. Pretty good I think.

I might try it without upping the voltage and see what difference that makes. This is also using the standard bios not the O/C bios.

The Fury's (non-x) have some pretty good cooling solutions out there. These maybe this generation good overclockers. I have not tried changing the voltage yet, I am going to find out what the max frequency is first. I don't think the Nano in the end will allow the power needed for great OCing but we will see.

I think I found a great way to log data such as GPU temp, Fan speed, memory speed, GPU voltage, cpu, Fraps FPS data etc. in any game more on that later. This will give a better feel for at least how the Nano responds. To me it seems to be cooling is #1 in getting the Nano to perform. Even at stock Power Limit I am able to get the nano to run virtually at rated speed of 1ghz now. I tried in GTA V and 1Ghz was pretty much solid but that was also a window. Will see if that carries over to full screen.

Greenland and such be interesting next year with HBM2 and small factor designs. The Nano really is a nice card showing what next year will display.

Just bought a I5 6500 for Nano project, the above rig is only temporary. I was tired of waiting for the I5 6600K or I7 6700K to be available and not at an excessive price. Once supply catches up I can buy the I7 once it's price is at retail or below.

without any discount the r9 nano ... is 800$
Keep in mind that the MSRP is 650$ so 800$ is normal for a 650$ price in US.Here no price reduction on AMD hardware. On the other hand i could buy my 970 at discount.I feel is because is winter sale and not the nvidia price reduction.

Wow! Almost worth coming here for a vacation and sending home a present. Except the 970 at the end of the day is a great card.

That's still not cheap

At least price is moving in the right direction and hopefully will be reduced more as time goes on.

I tested the new CPU/Motherboard/Ram and power supply for the SFX/Nano project. Loaded up Win 10 on a spare hard drive on the counter top (will post a picture later) and everything works. Also designing a case which looks like it will be around 6 liters in size. Still need to purchase a M2 SSD.

Nano is a stupid, stupid card. Stupid.:bleh:

Guess we should be saying same about 980 as it beats in price:performance as well as 970 matx.. hell I guess we should just be happy if nV/AMD just /delete anything below the 980ti/Fury X and just be happy our overlords serve us up with $650+ GPUs..

Yes, I agree 100%. :bleh:

Edit: You have to admit the Nano is a neat but stupid card.

Why is it a stupid card? You gave no reasons what so ever.
  • It out performs a 980 at about the same cost
[*]With similar power usage and noise level
[*]Is smaller and can fit in many more types of cases SFF to big
[*]Very easy to get an additional 10% performance out of it
[*]Most likely will support DX12 better (to be seen)

No it is just a stupid card
