What I do:
Uninstall
Reboot
Log on as admin
Del everything in the REGISTRY that vaguely has ATI in it or references to it.
Reboot
Install
[If BSOD appears go back to step 2]

Then if it doesn’t give me a bsod after i delete some more files, I load a game. Play it. See something wrong then log onto RAGE3D and of course not logically explain the problem RANT about oh-my-god these are the worse drivers iv ever seen and I’m going back to the old drivers/rock I crawled from and wait till there are new drivers!

I don't know if they are the "best yet", but so far, they are running fine. I don't benchmark, but framerate in Nascar 2002 kinda sorta seems slower, but not significantly if so. I haven't really believed that previous driver releases actually improved the clarity and color that much more in games or on the desktop, but I think I'll have to change my mind on these. Colors do seem more vivid all around.

Just bought RTCW tonight (Target, $29!!!!!) and it looks gorgeous and runs great.

So far, I have to give a big thumbs up for the Catalyst :D

ooops, forgot my instructions :hmm:

Unintalled previous (Omega/Plutonium set) drivers
Reboot
Delete all traces of drivers
Delete registry items
Installed Catalyst drivers
Reboot
Reconfigure
No problems!

First time I ran 3D Mark 2001 my screen went crazy with crazy graphics after about the 5th test. Far from perfect. Other games that were locking before still lock. They are ok but nothing as great as was predicted.

Driver Opinion Short and Sweet

Driver Opinion Short and Sweet

I uninstalled the old drivers via Add/Remove then rebooted. Let windows go back to the default drivers then I installed the new ones. I did a custom install and only did the drivers part. Reboot.. no ATI tabs  Weird... reinstall this time full install. Reboot and voila its all there. So a minor install issue no biggie. As for games Tried Colin McRae (np all is good) then GTA 3 (nasty fog problem) Hmm oh well! Can't have everything I guess.

Oh I see, new improved drivers meant that they kill your AIW stuff so that the only drivers that were improved will work.... Biggest pile of junk of drivers I have ever seen. I don't believe I will be recommending ATI 'products' to customers anymore. 6 unknown devices in my Device Manager-MMC 7.7 is down since the 6 unknown devices were AIW stuff. Never again will I purchase an ATI product-ATI has finally lost me as a customer. I'm throughly sick with software as poor as this!!!!

Only the 6094 drivers install correctly. None of the AIW stuff works-some improvement. All software was installed on top of the current software-in the case of the MMC that is what you are supposed to do.

Congrats ATI! When you lost me as a customer you lost my customer base also-congrats for the junk. Can I bill you for the lost in time I have spent dealing with your junk?

What I did.

What I did.

I just installed them over my previous (4.13.9031) drivers and everything's OK. Still can't play Quake1, though as it crashes at start-up! Put out an OpenGL patch for Quake, ATI!!! It's my favourite game and I have to use my 3dfx Voodoo5-5500 AGP for it!

Boy, it's been forever since I dusted off this account...

However, I can't say what you're doing wrong. I also have a Radeon 8500 DV and it's doing it's multi-media just as well, if not better than before. MPEG-2 capture is only using 30-35% of my resources. (I use 720x480, variable bit rate, VBR 15 M Bit/Sec, motion quality 100%, I frame only)

There's only 2 multi-media bugs that I found so far. One is the audio pass through locks up the DVD player (legacy problem for me) and the other is that when I uninstalled all the drivers and re-installed them, the compatability check is saying that my DX and WDM isn't installed correctly. (All is still well though...)

Overall, a fairly decent driver for what I do.

System:
Windows 2K Pro
Althon XP 1800+
Shuttle AK 31 Ver 3.1
256 MB of DDR 2100
Maxtor 80Gig 7200 RPM, ATA 133 drive
Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer
Most other stuff, irrelevent....

Considering that these new Catalyst drivers only have enhanced Direct3D instructions and nothing has been changed in the OpenGL area, these drivers will mature nicely. I cannot wait until they finally tweak the OGL component.

Just installed it right away on top of my old driver (6071) restarted, and it works :D
3dMarks increased by 2 - 3%

All I did was uninstall the old ones (the 9031s were the first set where I could get the uninstall to work), clean the registry of ATI driver relevent entries, and then install the new ones. No problems. :)

6094 version killed my ATI v6071 - All unknown devices

6094 version killed my ATI v6071 - All unknown devices

I have been running the 6071 on an 8500DV and removed them and installed the catalyst. On reboot, on was on generic display drivers and installed catalyst and rebooted.
Now my video was reduced to 640x480 and couldnt change back to 1280x1024 until I realized now both primary and secondary display devices (VGA&TVout) were BOTH PRIMARY and lowest resolution wins(800x600max for tvout). I made TV secondary display and all video problems were corrected.
Next - new hardware wizard was coming up for about six devices it could not find ANY drivers for. I tried to point them to the C:\ati\blahblah\w2k\driver folder and it doesnt think its an acceptable driver and will not load. This is the same for ALL devices.
NO MMC due to all my drivers unable to be found, and loaded - leaving unknown devices.

Re-loaded the 6071.exe package and came up working again.
reloaded the 60094 exe right on top and same scenario as above.

Did it one more time for kicks to see if I noticed something I had missed. I recreated the scenario 3 times with the same result.

I have read many posts on this forum describing similar behavior I am having and everyone is about the same. Most people I have seen who install and say its succesful (few) are not running W2k as I am.
I gave up on XP due to the greater instability with my hardware. Its mostly solid with occasional ATI quirks on W2K. I dont need bleeding edge OS, I want stability.

Anyway, if anyone can confirm or express any ideas, I think the major erros are all along this vein. Most people who are complaining about textures and fog and games and such are farther along on these drivers and trying to tweak. I am just trying to get the 8500DV functions operational and drivers recognized by the OS.

Thanks for reading this far, but I am new to ATI proiducts and fear all the rumors I have heard may be true and part of my life now. Needed to vent.

I never had these problems with my sold TNT2, but what a boring card.

Any help is appreciated - I will be reading this forum for a glimmer of hope that may turn up in the ruff.

Did you install the WDM stuff?

Did you install the WDM stuff?

Did you install the capture driver when you were installing the drivers? (sorry if it's an obvious question, it's easy to overlook-- ATI's so friggin' stupid for separating all that out)

The filename's tv-capture-wdm-6-13-10-6125.exe.

I forgot to mention that. I do remember installing those (I did download them for sure) on the first one and assumed that had been done once and for all.

Let me try again...

I am going to try again and install WDM first.
Ok done with that install now.
Rebooted, then confirmed they are the 6125
Ok - now installing catalyst.
Done- rebooting.

Moment of truth...

back to two displays primary so screwy resolution. Sloppy but I can live with it.
Logged in.
Dammit to hell if it didnt WORK! Its loading and finding drivers.
It found all the drivers. I am such a moron. I guess the only explanation besides my ignorance is that I downloaded them but never installed them??? How embarrassing. But I swear I did that.... anyway...

Ok.. now on to the MMC 7.7 update. I ran that and apparently it doesnt update the version number of the tv splash screen - atill says 7.6 anyone else with this issue?

Remote Wonder 1.2 update seems to work as HELP,ABOUT says 1.2

yeah! something went right the first time...

Not sure I like them.... going to go backwards and compare.

THANKS!

Naw... I like the 2d of the 6071 drivers better. Some fuzzyness in places on my LCD with 6094

QUESTION:

Can you mix the 6071 display with the newer 6125 WDM drivers?

Currently I am on the 6071 display with the newer 6125 WDM... works... dont like the updated 6094 display driver....

Thanks again
