Other ways to increase gpu performance without buying a gpu

I realized that somehow things arranged in a weird to actually have my eizo 1080p at my disposal. This is an elegant way to NOT deal with the psyhotic GPU market.I decided to post this as an advice after what was responded in a q&a from hardware unboxed.

At minute 3:50 there is a question about "Best GPU to Buy Right Now?"... Intersting answer.

Both of you have expensive rigs.
I think a trinitron CRT monitor would be actually awesome choice in this period of crisis. You can go down and up in resolution without any loss of quality.
Fortunetly most games can runn at 1080p over 60fps on old 1060 and 580.Some very new triple A actually you may have to turn down settings even at 1080p to get playable performance.

They just point out that your kinda of stuck. I made the jump to a 6600XT to get out. But my Fury that it replaced is doing an awesome job powering my partners 2560x1080p 29" 21:9.

Its not that you don't loose quality when you drop resolution on CRT. You do, as of course the lower resolution can't resolve as much detail(AA can help, but most modern games have kinda crappy AA). The awesome thing about a CRT is when you do that resolution drop, the image remains sharp and crisp. As they don't have a fixed "native" resolution like other display tech does.

We are also getting kinda lucky. Not allot of games are really pushing things as much as they could. And DX12 and Vulkan are not really pushing new feature sets just yet.

In fact, Vulkan showed that improved performance on older hardware is ...actually a thing

By all means, go back to 480p CRT. You'll get GREAT results out of your video cards then.

No one is stopping you.

yes i meant the image it doesn't get blurry as you go up and down in resolution.I mean paying 100$ for a crt or get for free from someone is much better than paying 800$ on a 6600xt.

I am not in a such a dire situation like someone with 1050ti or 1060 3gb.A drop to 1080p is enough to get 60+ fps in 95% games. This thread is generic for the people who are stuck on 580 / 1060 or lower and don't have money to pay for an overpriced gpu.

Fair enough but let's not keep repeating this over and over. I'll leave this one open so you can post CRT reviews and such.

I wanted this thread to be about playing games or latest games without buying a new or second hand gpu.Avoiding GPU's completly. Ways to increase one's current gpu life until this crisis finish.I think the title should be changed to something "Other ways to increse gpu performance without buying a gpu."

Another idea will be using AMD FSR that works on Nvidia too.Unfortunetly this is game dependant if it is implemented or not.The nice aspect is that community can implement it to games without waiting for the dev to do it...So this is a hope.

Any other idea please post...

I think the better option is to just not upgrade.....

TURN. Some. Settings. Down.

It’s ok. A lot of people do it, and most have lived to tell the tale. :bleh:

Nah just keep buying a smaller monitor. As new generations of games hit you dont have to upgrade just go down a notch in resolution. Problem solved

I'm playing Far Cry 6 at 480i and getting 10,000 fps! It's glorious!!!
