Official RX 480 AIB thread.

Got a Sapphire RX 480 Nitro and it was a disaster. Could barely fit in my Node 304 case (my fault) and its cooling fans sounded like jet engine compared to my Galax GTX 970 Mini. Didn't measure temps but at that the Nitro ran considerably hotter. Drivers took me three attempts to finally download and the whole installation process was a mess. Crimson 16.8.2 missed vital files and at that it took a lifetime to install compared to nVIDIA's Game Ready drivers.

..and that's not it. The card just refused to run properly on my system. Flashes in the desktop, and missing textures in Fallout 4 (haven't tried other games unfortunately). Colors in Fallout 4 was also way overblown.

The rebel in me made me get an AMD card but right now after all this mess I'm going to side with the devil. Ordered a Zotac GTX 1060 6GB Mini and it'll arrive in less than a week. Adios AMD. My next major upgrade is going to be an Intel+nVIDIA system. Prepare the tomatoes folks! :D

Sorry but that sounds to unbelievable to be true, i downloaded the drivers today and they took no problem to install, no missing files, all my games work, including old ones, but i'm on a R9 270X tho.
About your problems with the GPU it self, it could be two reasons or faulty GPU, in that case AMD is not to blame but the partner that made that card or you didn't clean your system of all Nvidia traces and they could be causing problems. Also what chipset is your motherboard?

I used DDU (http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/display-driver-uninstaller-download.html) to uninstall all nVIDIA drivers.

My mobo:

Having said that (yeah I was pissed and wasn't thinking when I said I wouldn't go AMD again lol) Vega+Zen will REALLY have to impress me to go full on red team next year.

You will be happy, or not, to know your issues are far from the norm.
I have never had any issues whatsoever with AMD cards with the single exception
that sometimes it would not wake up from a screen saver screen off.
Driver upgrades are seamless and always good news with improved FPS and IQ.

Having said this, are you selling your nitro?

Generally if you get a card and it just flat out doesn't work after accounting for software issues it means the card is defective. It's very unusual for hardware to flat out not work like that. It could have been an incompatibility with your board, but that is something I've honestly never experienced in the 20 years I've been building my own computers.

Nope not selling it. The store said I can exchange it for the Zotac GTX 1060 Mini.

And Nagorak, yes it is weird. I am hoping its just an incompatible card that's the issue here but it's worth mentioning I was running an XFX R9 270 the first time I used the same motherboard in my RVZ01 case. The card ran hot too but coming to think of it, textures+colors were perfectly fine. Fingers crossed it's just a bad card cause despite what I said I still do wanna give them a chance next year. :bleh:

by chance are you using a win10 "upgraded" machine rather than a fresh os install?

Yup was running Windows 8.1 and got the free upgrade to Windows 10.

So I ended up getting the Inno3D GeForce GTX 1060 Compact. My god is the the thing silent. Had to literally stick my ear to my case to hear the fan.

Well, now that I have the money set aside for an 8GB card..

Should I stick with the 780Ti or get an RX480?

I do game but mostly just things like W3 and never above 1080p and don't plan on going above 1080 within 2 years.. Mostly this card will just be doing Compute things like F@H or BOINC. In this case.. is the RX480 the better choice or is sticking with the 780Ti better? This 780Ti is clocked at 1,150Mhz Core @ 1.150V... 1,750Mhz Mem.

IMO RX480 would be better for compute. But so many vids are about to come Id wait a bit.

And theres black friday...:D
