Official RX 480 AIB thread.

When I read IceQ this came to my mind. I still think this looks better than new IceQ and functional.

heh that iceq looks a bit cheap today, but back then it was top shelf.

Ordered myself a XFX GTR Black RX 480, should be here in a few days.

Yeah, my memory was bad apparently.

Looks like I actually had a 1950 XT also (actually tossed it a couple years ago). A bit "sexier" card than the one you posted, but different looking than the HIS. :bleh:

for those that weren't around when that AIW on the far left was the sexy, you might want to point out which models each are.

Just noticed that there are no 480 cards in stock at newegg, I'm thinking within a week or two there will be a shipment

They're in order by generation. AIW Radeon 7500, Radeon 8500, Radeon 9800 Pro, Radeon X800 and Radeon X1950XT.

This isn't every Radeon I ever owned. I had a couple Radeon 32 DDRs, a Radeon 64 DDR, and also a 9700 Pro. I think something happened with the 9700, and I got the 9800 as a warranty replacement (honestly had sort of bad luck back in the day with computer components, I remember having to RMA a lot).

Hit the spoiler for the image:

Guess from left to right

9600 AIW - 8500 - 9800 - X800 Pro - X1950xt

You can tell the original 9000 series apart from the earlier ones because they switched to red PCB from green after the 8500 series.

The Omen X Desktop will be available at HP's website on August 17th for a starting price of $1,799, and that will get you an overclockable 4GHz Core i7, 8GB of RAM, Radeon RX 480 graphics, a 256GB SSD, a 2TB hard drive and a monstrous 1,300W power supply.

An RX480 and a 1300w power supply. Can you say overkill?

Welp, the 470 and 460 are stocked quite well in Canadastan, so I guess the 480 IS experiencing yield issues... None available anywhere...

I think that indications are that 14nm/16nm is having yield issues in general. The stripped down GTX 1060 from Nvidia suggests that they're having problems as well (if yields were good they wouldn't have disabled part of the GPU on a same numbered card).

AMD seems like they're having more trouble though as the 480 hardly seems in stock anywhere.

Got my XFX rx 480 today, card looks great!

Running through some benchmark/games now.

Max temp 77°C, maintains 1338mhz at all times so far but haven't done super long game sessions.

Takes a few minutes for fans to switch off after gaming, They ramp down from 3k rpm to 1k rpm then switch off all together. Temps 46°C with fans off just general desktop work. During gaming, the card seems quiet, no louder than my 7950 windforce. Wattman does not seem to be working.

Just sold off my GTX 950, 2GB isn't enough in today's game let alone upcoming games. I kept seeing texture swapping where it goes blur before getting sharp it especially pronounced in Doom and Fallout 4.

Question is should I buy reference RX 480 8GB or Nitro+ RX 480 4GB for similar price? I'm debating whether RX 480 really needs extra framebuffer.
