KAC

Whatever
So thought I should do a review of Corsair MX keyboards since I now have 2 of them. Previously I had some Logitech keyboard that I can’t remember but it was decent.

This time I experimented with 2 keyboards.

Corsair K68 Cherry MX Red RGB and Corsair K70 MK2 Cherry MX Brown.

I know it is personal preference and all but here are some pros and cons if you are considering.

K70
- Brown switches are more clickety clack and louder
- Brushed aluminum keeps keyboard feel cool
- RGB feels brighter
- Separate USB hub possibility if required
- Lighter weight and smaller size
- Logo lights up
- Keys pop off a lot if not handled properly (kids)
- My volume wheel has given way and doesn’t work properly 100% of the time
- Dust magnet and can only be cleaned with keys popping off all the time

K68
- MX Red switches are relatively quiet. I always thought browns would be quieter but this is seriously misconstrued fud
- Very sturdy build and also heavier and slightly longer
- No volume wheel but buttons
- Corsair logo doesn’t light up
- Keys stay in place and require force to pop out
- Dim RGB compared to K70
- Easier to clean

Overall I prefer typing on the K70 over K68 due to the switches but everything else is better on K68. I wished they would’ve done K70 more like K68 or I could’ve found a brown switch K68 instead. K68 was very difficult to find locally and I got the last one on Amazon. I am wondering if I should return it and get the K95 MX Brown switches instead which is on sale at Amazon US.

What do you gays prefer as good mechanical keyboards. I have also heard good things about Blue switches but I can’t find them. The Red ones are 180 degree of what I expected them to be. Gaming is solid af on both the keyboards though.

Here is a shot of the two babies.

I prefer Red or Black for gaming (linear), Blue for typing (clicky). Brown are a good middle ground that excel at neither.

Your choices are very limited if you are going to stick with big company keyboards(razer, corsair, logitech)

Going down the custom keyboard route can be expensive but if you find a switch that you really like it may be worth it.

Custom keyboards will allow you to change the switches so you can go from cherry, to Kailh or to whatever switch you want. You could buy one of those switch testers and see which kind of keys suit you best.

I use Kailh box white switches, similar to cherry mx blues, but IMO feel better.

Going with like Glorious PC Gaming keyboards will get you in the door because they are fully modular and pretty cheap. I would much rather buy one of those instead of a big box keyboard just to lose a ton of the branding.

Im using a Drop CTRL keyboard cause I like the simplicity and look.

Tough to find those around here. Will look into the suggestion and see if I can grab something.

Wow that is significantly cheaper than what I paid for the K68.
The K550 available is purple switches though so I don’t know wtf are those. The brown switches one is K280 which is compact size. There is also a blue switches one which is something I want to try as well.

Choices. I have grown to like the K68 and Cherry Red are dope for gaming.

The K550 I got has brown switches.

From what I'm reading in the customer reviews the purple switches supposedly "feel like a heavier MX BROWN." I can't vouch for that since its different than what I have.

My Corsair K70 has browns and that keyboard feels great.

My Razer Blackwidow has Razer green's which are allot like Cherry MX blues. They feel alright, but overall this keyboard is way louder than the K70.

All that said, the lighting effects of the Razer won me over. I often had to use a piece of software called "Aurora" to get similar effects in games on my K70 and I never felt comfy using it with online games. So the Razer simplified that :)

*edit* I also went with aftermarket PBT Pudding keycaps to further enhance the Blackwidows RGB effects :D

I find linear Red and Black are a PITA to type with. I get so many typos with Reds, but to me at least linear are by far the best for gaming.

I like the look of that Apex board with adjustable sensitivity. I assume those Omni Point switches are linear too in the diagram [?]

That is one sleek looking keyboard. Unfortunately I need keypad, is there a version with it?

Yes

That looks sweet but yeah, layout sucks. I need to find one with a full layout

I love blues for typing. I use reds for games and on my main desktop at home.

I've tried a bunch of logitech keyboards, kemove snowfox, and ducky. The ducky keyboards are IMO the highest quality of the lot however they don't have a nice low profile option with wireless support so I'm back on logitech now.

There are so many choices for keyboards at this point I'm always eyeing something else to try and never seem to be completely happy. Once you factor in boards that you can customize to your liking it's no surprise that there is basically a sub-hobby involved here all to it's own.

Dammit, the lay out is wrong  Need the regular type lay out like on KAC's K70/K68.

Still staying away from the fully custom stuff, theres the glorious Full sized keyboard.

Get you the same modularity and customization of the drop keyboard and looks very similar too. My wife has the GMMK Pro(tenkeyless small one) and that thing is built like a goddamn tank.

100-150 bucks is more up my alley. Wondering if it is worth going from one brown to another brown. Just doesn’t make sense to me but I am just too stupid and will probably end up spending money and creating remorse threads. :bleh:

Technically the Corsair K70 was hailed as the best brown switch board when I got it a couple of years back. I don’t think that assessment has changed much.
