Intel 12x00 series Alder lake

After spending a lot of time reading reviews and comparing stated performance vs my performance from a 5900X I have decided to not move to Alder Lake. It’s just not worth the money and also is a power hungry mofo.

Good for you, just wait for the 4080 next year.

Not accurate. Just because the board on the spec sheet only says 6400, doesn't mean that's the max it can run. People have Hynix chips at 6600, and I've seen one guy with 7000 (though at suicide voltages).

I do agree that DDR4 is doing well in games but you're comparing extremely mature DDR4 to baby DDR5, and it's impressive that the DDR5 can already surpass the DDR4 when properly tweaked - that was not the case with DDR3 to DDR4.

The latest crop of ddr4 mainboards for ADL qvl says 5133 mhz ... I remember the very basic first ddr4 was 2133mhz i bought from crucial. If the ddr4 trend of frequencies is keept then DDR5 suppose to bring 10000mhz with lower latencies..I am curious if this boards will support ddr5 10000 when they apear.

Are there known PSU compatibility issues with Alder Lake and potentially Meteor Lake?

I'm looking to grab a Corsair HX1000 PSU and hoping it would be compatible with Meteor Lake even though it may be too early to tell.

Perhaps the RM1000x might be a better choice

EDIT: Looking at this again, if I were to go to a 600 series board, I just need to make sure I can connect an additional 8 pin connector to the PSU for the CPU. This would mean regardless of PSU it will work fine.

I've finally scored some good ddr5 from a somewhat more reasonable local scalper on ebay. 2x16 g.skill Z5 ddr5 6000 cl36. I'm sick of waiting and doesn't look like any end in sight with this shortage.
Only twice msrp, no taxes and import fees since he's in Ontario.
Should I keep them, or turn around and sell them for $3k like other listings I've seen? lol, I'm kidding...:bleh:

Let us know how they OC. Was thinking about jumping to ADL but only if I can get 6400+, hoping for 6600-6800.

The reason I ask is because they are available for pre-order here.

Nah I want to see what AMD offers with v-cache, and by then more DDR5 options should be available so can swing either way. :manches2:

Very happy with current system anyway, and would like to get at least 12 months out of it. 3 to go.

Wow. 300 bucks is a killer price. If I can find it at that price, I would jump on it in a second. Hot damn!

Nice.

I don't think V-cache will be much of a threat, though. Intel is solidified as the gaming king right now
