improved Quake 2 versions

Pff that's nothing to the Quake 2 update in 30 years that will have the engine upgraded with 4D textures and integrated hump mapping.

On the original thread topic, it's unfortunate that Quake2 hasn't really gotten a definitive sourceport, the way that Dark Places is for Quake. There's several popular sourceports, but each for different purposes. Graphically I really like kmq2, but the author changed a bunch of things to extend functionality, which breaks compatibility with nearly every mod. He also has a vanilla port that adds bug fixes and widescreen, but doesn't add any new graphics features.

kmq2 is loosely based off of quake2max (which was my favorite back in the day).

Dark Places is amazing though, as it includes bug fixes, extended functionality, amazing graphical options, and still maintains mod compatibility. Quake2 needs something like that.

Do Nvidia cards still have issues in darkplaces? I seem to recall a driver update really screwing up the game and never heard of a fix.

Well I'm going to call this "PC gaming", even though it's PS1, 'cause they've changed so much of it in the emulator. Amazing stuff, and I need to get back into emulators.
  • High resolution
  • texture filtering
  • overclocking for 60fps
  • widescreen
  • fixed the wobbly PS1 textures & geometry
  • Played with a mouse

wtf was that shortcut always there? right where the game starts normally, to go through the glass and come out in that canal that's a little further? i knew there's a secret there with the shotgun but i didn't know about that small shortcut. at the 1:04 mark.

Why not just play the pc version?

Loved Quake 2 back in the day, havent touched it since. I take that back I tried it with RTX on and it brought my 1080Ti to its knees:lol:

I wonder if we will see someone do an FSR 2.0 mod for Quake 2 RTX. It already has a temporal scaler, so the temporal data is already there to implement FSR 2.0. And it can never have DLSS implemented due to the GPL license Quake2 is under anyway.

It will probably take a long time, as they can't just simply piggyback on the work done by nvidia.

yup, looks like you guys were too late. now the video's been taken down.

It was the Quake2 intro movie, AI upscaled to 4k 60fps.

It has FSR 1.0 already I can't imagine it would be that hard for some enterprising young feller to implement it and do a pull request :3

Fair enough. But I watched a guy implement it into his own engine from the AMD source code in about an hour and half. And with Q2 RTX, it already has a temporal upscaler. So all the harder temporal work is already done. Just requires some one with good working knowledge of Q2 code.

I suspect that people does not seem to care that much about q2 rtx is going to be the major obstacle for an fsr 2.0 mod.
