I wrote my own forum!

Sorry dude, that looks too much like vBulletin to be a coincidence, even if you tried to do it. The wording you used for some of the different things there is suspiciously the same, ie: "... welcomes its newest member," is the exact same wording vBulletin boards use. The layout and "way it feels" is also the exact same as vBulletin, even your tables are identical.

I can understand it if you ganked some code to get some functionality in there, but claiming it's all from scratch is a bit hard to believe.

Believe what you want, but I really did write it from scratch. I can bet my life on the fact that I have never even seen the vBulletin code, much less taken anything from it. RADEON6C will vouch for me, too, as he's seen me slowly building it up, adding features, and fixing bugs. I realize that it looks a lot like vB (perhaps too much), but it's not. I truly did write it from scratch.

Andrew did the entire forum and site from scratch, and believe me, I was with Desktop-OS.net long before it was upgraded, and besides he doesn't have the password to the files on my webspace, so there was NO other way he could have gotten the vB code. :)

I'm not saying he didn't write it, I'm just saying it's not entirely from scratch as he claims, even the source looks similar (without all the nice formatting). vBulletin code is easy to get, there's even a freely available "lite" version that contains a lot of stuff so saying he didn't even have access to the source is a bit silly.

I don't have a problem with you copying some code and features from vBulletin. My problem is you claiming it as your own, which is the worst form of plagarism there is.

I'm not going to argue about it as there's no way I can definitly prove it (and no point in doing so anyway), but there's no way you can convince me it's from scratch because it's just way too similar.

How would you know what the source code to my portal looks like? I hate being accused of something that I didn't do. If I had copied parts of it, I would admit to it. But the fact is that I haven't. Would you like me to email you the source code so you can look through it yourself?

I'm not saying that I couldn't get access to the code if I really wanted to. I'm sure I could. The fact is that I don't want to, don't need to, and haven't done it.

:o I dont b/l you either... So can you send me the source code so I can verify it?!? ;)

Bah, you just want to use it, don't you. ;) I would send it to Ratchet, because I trust him. Apparently, that's not the case the other way around, though...

What about PHPbb ?

What about PHPbb ?

As far as I know , vBulletin really isn't that great compared to PHPBB and PHPBB is free !

A couple days ago Andrew sent me part of the source code via MSN (the forum.php script). I compared it to my vB's index.php script and looked at them side by side.....they are both completely different. :)

I've however, deleted the script from my HD because I'm no criminal. :)

I'd be more interested to see how easy your forum is to set up for an 'administrator'

Do you just create a database on a databaser server and the admin/install script creates their own tables, or do you have to create each table/etc manually?

Is the forum configured through a admin function, or does it require the user(s) to hand-edit one or several .configuration files?

How is the directory structure laid out?

:-)

One script sets up the database. The forum is 100% configurable through an Admin Control Panel... no configuration files to edit. I'll post some screenshots. :)

Cool...

Cool...

Must have been some time consuming task.
Good work. :p

Writing a portal and/or a forum can be
done, but to do it right and bug free
is not that easy. ;)
