I have to get an iPhone

Doesnt hurt battery at all... at least on the iPhone 7. It auto turns itself off in the dark(light sensor activated)

It seems to me that that basically confirms that it is likely always on, it just doesn't respond in certain settings. Google's version has a quite easily seen effect on the battery life of my Galaxy A3.

Is there anyway to have the iPhone announce when text messages are received over my Bluetooth connection? Connected to my car, my WP used to always announce when I received a text and asked if I wanted to read it. This was a nice feature when driving as I could hear and even reply to messages without even touching my phone.

Also, is there any way to get Siri to change the default map app. I'd like to ask for directions through Siri and have it use Google or Waze instead of Apple maps.

May be doable through carplay, but that also seems to require a wired connection. I'm curious for an answer about this one too cause I would use it religiously.

I love my iphones. My 7+ was a nice bump from my 6+. I havent jailbroken my iphones in like half a decade if not longer. No need.

That's the only way I know of it to work, honestly.

I loved my WP for this. It's such a shame that platform is on life support :( WP was so much better than iOS and Android at so many things.

Considering one out of ten people driving at rush hour have their phone out texting at the same time, a lot of lives could be saved too. It's a mystery why only WP has this useful feature.

PS. Unfortunately, WP isn't on life support, it is dead. I can already tell you that Microsoft is working hard to get all there stuff working great on Android and IOS. That was one big surprise for me is that all MS software is better supported on IOS than on WP. Office on IOS, Outlook, One-Note, .... They are all really surprisingly good on IOS. Now if only we could replace Siri with Cortana.....

Switched to an iphone 7 plus not too long ago. I like the thing and all. Its snappy and imessage is the ****. Such a step up from textra. Thankfully I can still use my favorite google apps including the launcher sort of. Only real gripes are the lack of a back button. I really wish that apps would at least move the software back button to the bottom corner. Thankfully swiping works in most browsers, not as nice as a back button. Also siri sucks balls compared to ok google. I could use voice to text pretty reliably while driving on android. Not happening on the iphone, just ends in frustration. Kind of surprised by just how much google and to a lesser extent amazon alexa have surpassed apples voice recognition.

wait until the next release... AMOLED Screens mean you may get always on display, and there's a good chance they will use Wireless Charging as well...

Wireless charging has been Windows phone feature since the lumia 920 lol.

Apple doesn't have wireless charging?

I know its wicked dumb on my part but I refuse to buy an Iphone. After my lumia 950 shits the bed I am off to a new Android phone.

Tons of Android phones still don't have it either. Probably due to the fact that there are not only multiple wireless charging standards, but each phone vendor coughSamsungcough wants to make their own pointless proprietary variation on it. As usual, once Apple does it all the other vendors will follow suit and it will become the standard.

You can sort of make it work after adding a 3'rd party item that plugs into the lightning port. Not elegant, but it is sort of an option.

The thing I have missed the most since my Nexus 5/6 days in terms of convenience is wireless charging. When Google went away from it as well, for some asinine reason, it limited options further. Thankfully at least Samsung is fully on board with it.

A lot of incorrect information here. There are literally only 2 standards. Qi and PMA. Samsung was the first company to support BOTH. There is no proprietary thing going on. Most phones don't have it because of the craze in going with metal bodies. Can't use wireless charging with that until very recently, and not sure it is ready for primetime.

Qi and PMA are the standards, Rezence is an option but far behind. PMA is one of the reasons you don't have a lot of phones in the US with wireless. With the ATT presence, phones were required to be gimped to be sold if they didn't have PMA support (which is only a thing because Samsung has opened it's wireless capability to tie it in). It has opened up a bit since, but let's not demonize Samsung here (erroneously).

I know how you feel, going from WP to iPhone is a big step down in OS capabilities. But, the ecosystem more than makes up for it. I like my iPhone 7 and miss WP. But, what can you do? Android phones are nice too. I probably would have gotten a Pixel instead if it wasn't for everyone in my family already using iPhones. I certainly don't miss the "Does it work on Windows Phone" question that is usually answered with a "No". Just get the phone that works best for you, even if it means Apple.

Nothing I said was incorrect. The number 2 (or 3) qualifies as "multiple". The proprietary aspect of this comes in when each model of phone has a special wireless charger. If it was truly standardized there would be one Qi charger and one PMA charger. There aren't. There should be a "master" generic charger that works with each of these standards but there isn't. You have to get Samsung's Note 5 charger to charge the Note 5, and so on and so forth. I know this because I had a Note 5 and went through the purchase process of selecting accessories, including the SAMSUNG wireless charger FOR THE NOTE 5.

For the first bolded part, realistically, there are only 2 main standards. There are other technologies but there is no widespread adoption of them.

For the second bolded part, devices like Samsung's support both. Your claim about a proprietary setup is incorrect. They implemented fast wireless charging (still using Qi). The industry in general had not adopted fast wireless charging till Samsung pushed it and now there are 10's of million of fast charging Qi/PMA capable devices everywhere that still work perfectly fine with regular wireless charges. The technology was not proprietary.

For the third bolded part, this is possible, but ideally whatever Apple implements supports the current established standards as well as whatever they decide to push. The rumors are getting stronger that the new iPhone will support wireless charging. It remains to be seen what it is.

As we have seen with USB C and Lightning, while Lightning is widespread, even Apple is moving to USB C to consolidate components.

All I know is: I had to buy one specific wireless charger in order to charge my Note 5 wirelessly.
