The short 2 foot USB cable attached to the RF receiver box forces you to mount the box too close to your computer and monitor.
I believe the computer and monitor cause RF interference, which makes the remote control have a very limited range (around 10 - 15 feet).
I originally had this limited range problem, I then used a USB extension cable, and mounted the RF box around 6 feet from my computer, and now my Remote works great even from another room which is 40 feet away from my computer
(I measured it).
Stephen Orr said:In the end, this remote is designed to work with ATI products which is why we kept (a few) buttons to ourselves. The Library, TV and DVD buttons will remain ATI's.
Keeping a few to 'ourselves' is extremely misguided in my opinion Stephen. This adds just a bit of a proprietary nature to the remote that is never appreciated by the most important element in the process....the customer.
ATI must ask themselves how the customer is serviced better by not opening these buttons. If the ATI applets are better, then people will likely use them. I own an ATI card, but I don't care for free included applets and use PowerDVD, WMP, WinAmp among others.
So please, please add my voice to others, and reviews I have read by the way, agree with me.
"If you don’t have an ATI video card, the catch is that three of those buttons – TV, DVD and Files – are hard linked to ATI applications, with, as-yet, no option to modify. "

I don't typically categorize 'catch' as a feature - or something to look for in a product.
So, overall an excellent product Stephen, but please convince ATI corporate to think of the customer first when it comes to interface and design decisions.
Thanks for listening!
