Gaming at Max Settings is Really Dumb

Like I don't get how you don't want to build a pc for balls to wall or nothing. I mean.... To me, it makes more sense to buy a console for that for half the price if you can't afford to make a pc like that. Pc is about getting max power, like why would you ever settle for less?

That's like settling for KAC's maids but really wanting a lego built gpu mining array. It just don't make sense.....
Why not both..

Oh also mah rule of thumb in your butt is max everything out and see how it runs then start dialing back leaving texture quality for last.

Also that OP video is legit cause you never know when devs are pushing settings that actually break the game. I remember recently for Path of Exile where they broke the highest setting for shadows and that tanked game performance.

Nononono, you missed a step, before dialing things down, you go to forums/reddit and whine about the game being unoptimized.

IMO the only people who say "playing games at max settings is stupid" are people who can't play games at max settings. :bleh:

I have to admit though, ray traced mine craft looks freaking amazing in some scenes  You just couldn't achieve that level of ray traced goodness in complex scenes

badsykes does have a point I will admit. People have different budgets and preferences and are more than happy to play games at less than max settings. For all those years I had AMD cards I played at Medium/High settings and I played a lot of games. Did I enjoy them .. absolutely. Was I bothered about not playing at max settings..absolutely not. I guess what you can't have you're not going to miss.

Even now where I do play everything maxed out would I be bothered in the future if I needed to turn down some settings to get playable fps..absolutely not. Been there done that got the tee shirt. Maybe this would be harder for those gamers who are always on the bleeding edge and must have the latest technology. We're all different.

There is that as well. But as I already mentioned there are lots of times where the max settings are over-top and really aren't worth it. Watch Dogs 2 is another good example game.

"San Francisco Fog" - This option adds a weather effect to simulate fog banks. It absolutely tanks performance and there are no game mechanics around it as it only exists in the PC version. It doesn't even really add much visual flare.

"Extra Detail" - This option pushes the amount of details drawn even further out. This actually doesn't hit your GPU as much as your CPU as it issues more draw calls. General conciseness is that it is not even worth turning on.

And there are examples of this everywhere. But we all know these sorta things and again it's why so many settings guides exist.

Why not both..

The rule of thumb is actually:

Max everything out and see how it runs. Then go buy and upgrade your weakest parts to faster/hardcore **** if it isnt performing up to par...

Screw dialing back ****, i want my games to look like photos and better than photos! My legos have to look like they came straight off the factory floor!
